The Byculla zoo,The Mumbai zoo or The Jijamata Udyan is located just in the opposite direction of the Byculla station. Once you reach the station it will take hardly a few minutes to walk down to the zoo. As for the western side, the Mumbai central station is nearest to the zoo and taxis are also available.The zoo remains open on all days of the week except Wednesday from 9am to 5:30 pm.
The Jijamata Udyan also known as the Byculla Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in India that has evolved into a much visited tourist spot now.This zoo was formerly known as Victoria Garden and is counted among the oldest zoo in India.It is located at the heart of the state,Mumbai. It is built over a huge area of land and also comprises of a beautiful garden apart from the zoo. The garden holds some unique and rare collection of trees and there are almost 3213 trees in number. Many flowers and herbal plants are also found here.The zoo also houses many endangered species.The Asiatic lion, jungle cat, palm civet cat, porcupine, gaur, mouse deer, leopard and the common otter are some of the rare species found in this zoo. There is separate birds section here that houses variety of birds like peacock, flamingos, peahen and many others.The zoo had recently been renovated and many more species of birds and animals have been newly introduced in the zoo.Do watch the entire video and experience the wondrous creatures.It is a perfect day trip destination for any season.
