    RADIALS :- I used the DXC Classic's base which already has the radials attached and buried. No need to make more new ones for this test build.. :)

    Nice to see someone build the Expedition as per spec BEFORE fiddling with it :)
    Funny how it works straight out of the box IF the instructions are followed huh.
    I have used the Expedition model since day one on several DX-peditions to the Pacific now, and you are right, it fits into my suitcase with no fuss.
    Takes me about 10 mins and i am up and running with them (yes two of them phased for 40mtrs) now days...... Great video again Mike.
    Cheers

      Thanks Roly, I always try to stick to the instruction on first build :) Then Play after I know it works :). I have one of each DXC's now, still love the classic best.

      @@mike-M0MSN Agreed Mike. The classic is the work horse for sure. The Expedition was developed by Callum and I so that it would fit into a suitcase for me to take on my DX-peditions. I used to take the classic but that meant another piece of luggage which inevitably lead to excess luggage charges and attracted the attention for duty/tax seekers !!! So, the Expedition was developed and now it is "out of sight - out of mind".... Cheers

      @@RolyRJ Way to go with a smaller antenna that is out of sight and out of mind. Customs and airlines love to charge you extra money when they get the chance!

    Took delivery of my DX Commander Expedition on Friday. Measure, cut & crimped wires that night and tuned today. Still need to adjust 17m and need to refine bandwidth on 10m. Thanks for a great assembly video. This and the 'other' Mike's - K8MRD) convinced me to make a purchase. 73 de KO4BZD

    You may just have made my mind up on that one.... I've been looking at the DX Commander stuff for a while and the expedition looks like a great set-up. Thanks for putting this together.

    Really impressive - I'm only on 10W and have always strugggled to make a QSO, with telephony seeing/hearing your QSO on 7W with the DXpedition has really motivated to keep trying !! Brilliant video, thank you 73's M7ALU

    If that yellow pole was fibreglass it would have been perfect for the antenna, DX Commander Expedition. Good to see the S.W.R. being so low out of the box. Good video Mike.

    Im convinced that every UK operator needs to have the -K at the end of their callsign to represent ownership of Kenwood TS990 :D .. Lovely radio. Unfortunately Kenwood has pulled out of the amateur radio business here in Australia.

    • @BoB4jjjjs
      @BoB4jjjjs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seriously, pulled out! That is a blow, I am not moving to Australia if I can't buy a Kenwood. I would have to go for an Icom! Why did they pull out of Australia, bit of a odd decision. You use odd frequencies down under or something?

    • @BoB4jjjjs
      @BoB4jjjjs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DX Commander Safer that way, no kids but not so satisfying. Oh, Kenwood, my mistake, my mind had drifted!!!

      @vk2yi81 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BoB4jjjjs You can buy a kenwood, from overseas though but if it goes foul, then nobody in Australia to fix them. The technician that repaired them who worked for kenwood has retired. Would honestly love a TS990. Just the thought of shipping it overseas for repair is a little scary.

      @@vk2yi81 Yeah, shipping and dealing with customs can be a nightmare! Looks like Icom has the upper hand in Australia then, unless you count Chinkileeseian products of unknownium tyoelisk thingies. Yeah, China will make better, not so much better, but a lot cheaper then Japan and then in 10 years it will be someone else's turn. Sometimes it makes you wonder who won the WW11 anyway!

    DX Commander is a great design, and I only hear great things. Sadly i'll never afford it, shipping alone to the states is around $100+. However I hope to build one of my own based on Callum's design.

      W3EQB , just an fyi, my DX Commander was no where near that amount for shipping, it was a lot less than that, and totally worth the investment.
