In October of 2021, Strange Familiars podcast began an ongoing series discussing supernatural elements in traditional folk ballads. The first in this series, Strange Familiars episode 270, "The Sly Bold Reynardine" looks at the ballad known as "Reynardine".
Is Reynardine a werefox, some other kind of faerie creature, or simply a normal, mortal, man? We explore some fox folklore from around the world, then break down the lyrics of Reynardine before Timothy shares his newly recorded arrangement of the song. Finally, we discuss a Pennsylvania werefox legend and hear Stone Breath's song based on the story, The Red Dog Fox.
This podcast was a patron episode (available to Strange Familiars patrons www.patreon.com/StrangeFamiliars as part of their subscription) - however we have made it available to purchase here for non-subscribers.

Hey, I've been a fan of the stuff you upload for a while now. That said, how would you pronounce your channel name in English (or at the very least, in the Phoenician alphabet)?

Hello! I am so honoured - pardon the late reply, as I only log in here to prepare my new uploads. So happy to know this work is being appreciated. Raphael -almost- nailed it, besides a wee typo: "to [as in 'plateau'] feelee [as in 'release'] tees petaloodas [as in 'meta buddhas'] - to feelee tees petaloudas" - which translates to "butterfly kiss" - long story behind it, but it is what it is! Many thanks again for your support!
