Absolutely stunning video. As soon as I heard that Aer Arann were coming to Southend, I watched all of your fantastic Aer Arann videos here. An amazing video, which should serve as a priceless historical record of a truly momentous day for Southend Airport. Only disappointment is that there was no footage of the landing back at Southend - but still an amazing video, produced is such a professional fashion.
@Aviationnation10 Thanks Aviationnation10 I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your #aerarann flight. Sounds like you were lucky to see the flight deck too, something I've not had the opportunity too. I flew EI-SLL on Good Friday and Easter Sunday Rows 11 and 3 and can't say it was overly noisy, obviously a smaller plane so sit closer to engines than on a jet but certainly not uncomfortable. BTW, it's a 72 -212 easy way to tell is to look at the shape of the props.
@CountVis Hello CountVis, thank you so much for your extremely kind comment about my #AerArann Southend Video I am really grateful for your comment and thank you for watching my Aer Arann videos. I'm sorry for the lack of landing shot at Southend, unfortunately by the time we came back it was dark - I did film, but I don't think much can really be made out of it, although I recall seeing Tesco's all lit up :-) It's an exciting time for Southend &I think for Aer Arann too. Just hope ppl support
@Shane028 Hi Shane028, thanks a lot for your comment. Had a great trip with Aer Arann from Southend, and always a pleasure going through Galway. If only all flying was this easy!
@rodjames98 Hi there, thanks for viewing my @AerArann Southend Launch video as well. Waterford flights are being retained over winter 2011/12 although I believe Birmingham to Waterford is on hold. Aer Arann's actions appear quite severe on the face of it and will affect many jobs which is very sad especially when times are tough, but commercially they are doing what many others are doing, Ryanair are parking many jets, Air Berlin is having a full restructure, BMI is realigning to profitability.
@harrygoozee Hello harrygoozee thanks for watching. Southend Airport is owned by Stobart Group under the Stobart Air part of the company. However, Aer Arann is not owned by Stobart, they have one member on the board and have an operating agreement with them over a 5 year term which includes the use of Southend Airport. Aer Arann remains an Irish owned airline.
@Aviationnation10 Southend is a relatively quiet airport at the moment; I've not been there before other than driving past years ago and my flights in March. As you can see from the video there's a lot of other aircraft there and a big paint works so get planes going in for painting. Remember at the moment, RE are the only scheduled airline with daily flights. You might find a trip to Southend proper i.e. the seafront is a good way to pass some time.
@mikkie444 hi mikkie444, is the runway extension going ahead I thought there was a lot of local opposition. What ever happens, I hope Aer Arann can make Southend work really well I wonder if they'll announce more routes themselves.. It's clearly and exciting time for the people working at Southend, so many genuinely happy and excited people there when I flew the other week. Thanks for watching.
@seaboo143 Hi seaboo143, for me this inaugural was a competitive fare and I thought quite cheap. Bearing in mind this was a brand new route, the first scheduled flights from Southend for 20 odd years, and a move from another London airport, the fares were low to attract customers. Generally speaking, fares for all carriers will be determined by competition, time of year, time of flight, how close you book etc. then add on taxes and charges etc. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
@mlinnie527 Hello mlinnie527, thanks a lot - that's really kind of you, I'm pleased you like my videos. This very first flight to Galway from Southend wasn't full, however I flew again on Good Friday and there were only about 3 seats left. I hope that helps. One thing to remember, it's not necessarily the number of bums on seats that counts, but the yield, or what each pax paid and how much they spent on board that's key. Best wishes.
@rodjames98 Thanks for watching my #aerarann southend #galway video and for taking the time to comment. I do appreciate it. I hope this is a success too. I've got a second trip booked in a few weeks so it'll be interesting to see the loads on the flights. A lot of effort has gone in by Stobart to get Southend modernised and with the new terminal coming along apace, it's a good time for SEN.
@90210walsh hi there, our Galway Flight departed at 10:15am and the Waterford left before, I would guess about 9:45am somewhere thereabouts. Hope that helps.
@planeanddrwho Hi, could be good times for Southend. Everyone we came across seemed genuinely happy and excited about the new services. It's such a convenient place to transit hopefully this will be a success.
@Shane028 Hey Shane thanks for watching the @aerarann video 10 times!! Aer Arann has gone green, although imo they need a bit more of a livery design as this current one is way too plain. Maybe they should paint the belly dark green and have some blue green hue cheatline, but something curvy and smart looking. I'm not a fan of all white as looks unimaginative. However, service onboard was as friendly as always and we arrived early so as usual it was thumbs up to them.
@Aviationnation10 As someone that likes aircraft, I'd be REALLY surprised if you didn't enjoy flying on a turboprop. They are a little nosier than a jet, but depends where you're sitting tbh my favourite was to travel is on prop. Love the engine pitch sounds, the feel of the acceleration is great, they seem to keep the breaks on rev up and let them off like a formula 1 start!! plus you fly lower so usually get a longer view of nice scenery
@Aviationnation10 Not sure what you mean about nothing at Southend? Do you mean the town? Southend is a coastal town so 7 miles of beach, blue flag water, long pier etc. Nothing at Southend Airport? there's always stuff going in there for paint jobs rarer ones not regularly seen elsewhere. Southend has a rail line direct to London. TBH Southend is little different from Stansted - there's nothing around Stansted unless you travel to Cambridge or London.. Hope that helps! good sale!
@Aviationnation10 What do you have against props? They're the perfect for Aer Arann. You have to remember that it is a jet engine which powers the prop, which has far greater fuel efficency. Somrthing which Aer Arann are pleased to hgave if you look at the price of Jet A1 now.
@MrPhotographyUK Join the club! It's almost the weekend, summer's just around the corner, have to stay positive!, thanks for your comment, I'm really pleased you liked the video and that it brightened your day just a little.
@deanow2007 I'm not overly keen on the hybrid livery since it looks way too plain, from any sort of distance the aircraft appear plain white. However, what RE need now is to consolidate their business, get the profits in and maybe it's something they'll look at in the future. I think they should get a green belly or something - a bit like the globespan look but in green/blue two tone.. anyway I'm glad u liked the video. ... I flew to Galway this time :-)
great video, lets hope more airlines can see the potential that southend has to offer,i understand that once the runway has been extended airbus a319s and boeing 737-800s will be aloud to operate.lets hope so,med/greece/spain/canaries here we come
@deanow2007 Hi, Waterford is in the title as it was the first destination to and from Southend operated by ATR42 EI-EHH. I wasn't on the flight but I did film the aircraft. Waterford is a lovely place, Galway is a lovely place, Ireland is an awesome place :-)
I heard Aer Arann might base a couple of aircraft in Southend during and after Summer 2011. Possibly a good chance to be cabin crew at Southend. I just hope they do.
More good news for Southend Airport just released today! Easyjet are going to open a base in Southend from April 2012! With 3 of its A319 fleet based there to 10 destinations. Hoping to be cabin crew for them there as SOuthend is my hometown.
@Aviationnation10 Not quite sure how you extend closing an aircraft door to peddling to work the engines. That was quite a condescending comment toward a successful regional airliner and the ATR clearly holds it's own in that segment of the aircraft market.
@bananamanuk I agree completely ... Very plain and they need to jazz it up a little. Being Irish i love the Green and White livery. Maybe AerArann should take a look at something along the lines of Aer Lingus or maybe what you suggested.
@JuliusEC145 So if I could get on a Virgin Galactic flight, I'd have it all covered then!!! Seriously, and I do mean seriously, I'm not big headed, far from it, I'm pleased you like my videos, but there's an awful lot out there more professional than mine. I enjoy making them and I'm pleased people like them. Your comment was extremely kind, thank you.
@Aviationnation10 hello Aviationnation10, the new livery is a little bland, but a livery doesn't make an airline. The people and ethos do. I too hope the livery becomes a bit bolder in the future, but for now I hope everyone gets the msg that Ireland - the real ireland, the heart of the country, the scenery and beauty can be accessed so easily. I like Aer Arann a lot, and I love Ireland. The more people flying there, the more money they have to invest, the more pronounced the livery.. we hope!
You wouldn't believe what happend at SEN on Saturday morning (29/10/2011). A group of 15 activists from Plane Stupid and some other group were arrested for tresspassing onto SEN's runway! Apparently they were dressed as pilots and cabin crew and were originally going to lay down solar panels and do a dance routine. Luckily the police apprehended them before they could do that and have been arrested and currently in custody. Nothing better to do in their spare time! I show no sympathy.
@JoeRoss1993 Hi JoeRoss1993, first off MASSIVE apologies, I accidentally hit the 'Vote Down' button because Internet Explorer is so slow, I am very sorry, i meant to hit the UP - and hope this is rectified by saying so. I agree that this is good for Southend, and it's apparently a 10 year agreeement. This should not only support Southend ant it's growth but that of the region too, and the other regions served from SEN. Exciting times for everyone at SEN. Once again, sorry for the error.
@JoeRoss1993 Thanks for your post sorry it didn't appear sooner but I was away; travelling via Southend Airport incidentally.. Unfortunately demonstrations like these can have a negative effect on everyone, i.e. that everyone then gets viewed with suspicion. In a democracy it's important people have the right to free speech the ability to make protests and have free movement, but it works both ways. Surely there must be other means of protest than cutting fences and invading airports...?

@90210walsh we arrived 15 mins ahead of schedule, did a quick routing around the airport and landed a few mins after midday.

@zero2084 hi zero2084, no name i'm afraid, it's something I created in Magix Music maker. I'm pleased you liked the Aer Arann Southend Airport video.
@JoeRoss1993 so much better flying locally. Thanks for watching Joeross1993
