    Proud Hyacinth Macaw owner here, don't regret buying him for a single moment. They have a friendly personality that's a lot like a little dog. I've owned other parrots in the past (still own an African Grey), they can sometimes get a little skittish meeting new people but the Hyacinth goes right up to them and asks for a little head scritch

    While not necessarily “expensive”, my dad owned a tarantula when I was a kid. That is, until it escaped from its terrarium and was missing for a week. After a week of terror, we found (her) hanging on the back of my parents bedroom door. My dad sold it soon afterward as having 2 toddlers in a house isn’t necessarily the safest environment for owning a tarantula. Hey, don’t judge, it was the 80’s.

      Riggleboy Exactly man. While I think the strength of animals are exaggerated greatly by the media and zoos (no chimp is 10 times stronger then me, its ridiculous) they still need a lot of respect, especially a chimp that has sharp teeth and a strong-enough grip to break fingers and will probably be similar in strength to their human counterpart. Also just because I love tigers doesn't mean I intend to own one. People can be stupider than the animal they own.

    • @FearedAudacity
      @FearedAudacity 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Riggleboy They are muscular but rarely weigh over 150lbs, definitely impressive physique though! Then again some animals that are very muscular (Like a bear or cat) look flabby due to the thick skin that protects them (I believe a lions skin is an inch thick, maybe I'm wrong can't remember) so physique isn't everything haha

Yeah a monkey if you wanna own a dangerous animal that's only cute when it's small. Yeah a beautiful macaw if you know how to enrich and care for the bird. Yeah an expensive ball python if you can provide heating,food,and all the other stuff that it needs.

    I am highly against having wild animals as pets. As a zoo docent, I am well aware of how horrible the exotic pet trade is and people need to stop trying to domestic wild animals. The reason why they do so well with keepers at AZA accredited zoos is because they trust the keepers and have a good relationship with them. The keepers also treat them like the wild animals that they are.

    PLEASE dont promote these things. Most of these arent pets. and should never be kept as pets. Especially big cats. Great strides are being made now to keep these animals out of the pet trade. ITs sad to see this.

    • @christiandelahoz2326
      @christiandelahoz2326 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      People can care for them if they have the money and knowledge to do so. We need captive animals for conservation too! Not as backyard pets though

    • @Powerranger-le4up
      @Powerranger-le4up 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Christian De La Hoz Might want to word it a little better. I agree with conservation, but the animals you often see at accredited zoos were born in zoos. The reason they do so well is because the keepers treat them like the wild animals that they are.

    I think it should be made known that many of these animals are not at all suitable for pets: lions, chimpanzees, the birds... these are all threatened species that should be in reserves or the wild and not cooped up in your backyard

    • @MM-hy3xv
      @MM-hy3xv 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The macaw should not be a pet and it's illegal to keep it in most countries because it's a threatened species. But the Black Palm cockatoo is not endangered and is being captive bred and it's pretty much domesticated just like most other parrots you can have as pets

    • @skiebunie
      @skiebunie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many people take these animals in to save them from other human beings that may be out there trying to track them down, or use their fur for coats, etc. Many people debate on this topic, but I think it's wise to remain silent in this situation.

    I'm missing so much here, there are boa constrictor morphs, rectilated python morphs that go into thousands as well. Highest I've ever seen was around 50.000$.

    The first one is talking about two different ball python morphs, there's a genetic stripe, and then there's pinstripe I had both and neither of them cost $10k. The very first genetic stripe probably went for more than $10k considering the very first pinstripe came out of Africa wild caught, it went for I think $30-100k. Nowadays you can purchase a pinstripe for about $200, and a genetic stripe for $400-$1000.

    I think there's a different between an 'exotic pet' and owning a wild animal
    I see creatures like tarantulas, pythons, geckos, iguanas and small birds as 'exotic pets'
    Where as monkeys, big cats, apes, wolves etc are wild animals
    Pro tip, if the animal your buying is going extinct in the wild because of the pet trade or has a much shorter lifespan in captivity than in the wild, don't get it

    • @johnsheppard1476
      @johnsheppard1476 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      None of big cats except ts'avo lions that are notoriously mad and unable to coexist with any other animals including their own,are living shorter in captivity than in the wild!
      By the way I am going to get a Siberian tiger cub to raise like a hunting comrade and life long friend as well as grandad did long ago and obviously that will not be born in the wild:it's much better thing to do if I will save a captive tiger from the life that he or she will live otherwise,than to take one of them that will live in the wild relatively normal life!
      And yes,I will make the life in paradise for the one who will choose me as his or her owner and friends for life:one will have everything that they have in nature:I will teach him or her to hunt for prey and since 2 years of age he/she will be feeding only with stuff that he/she will catch and kill-but as the perk of living with me one's meat will end up preserved in the fridge instead of rotting in the middle of nowhere-obviously though with exception of small animals that my cat will consume on spot:for example,snowshoe hare would not be something worth going home with it,and especially those things that they usually kill but never eat-like other cats,but I mean that moose or deer will be dragged home afterwards,obviously by cat him/herself:I'm not a superman that can pull a quarter tonne moose carcass 10+ kilometres through the forest which is casual and rather easy thing for such an animal!So the same time I will arrange mating sessions for him regularly and for her-well,definitely not often but sometimes I will anyway let her have cubs!Yet due to the gianormous amount of difficulties with hand raising tiger cubs!
      Anyway this was already done by my grandad with his tiger Neron!

Also why are white lions on this list? Do they understand how those tiny Cubs become huge lions that should only be owned in captivity in a zoo or special facility not your backyard.

      camels are a domesticated animal and make a great pet if you live on a ranch.
      snake also make great pets and are easier to care for then a dog.especially a tibetan mastiff.
      the parrots shown don't make great pets cause they scream very loudly,have a beak cable of crushing bone and tend to pluck because they are very smart and sensitive.some smaller parrots make great pets but the larger ones are for experienced keepers only because it's like taking care of a little kid.

    • @starandfox601
      @starandfox601 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there's a very good reason why you can't release a bird raised in captivity into the wild and that's because they get used to the cushy life humans provide where they are guaranteed food and water,are protected from dangers,don't have to really work to survive and if they get sick they get veterinary care.
      the wild isn't this happy place where every animal lives happy little lives.it's a harsh place where food and water isn't guaranteed and death is allows around the corner.
      so considering these facts do you think all birds should be in the wild especially captive born ones that are basicly domesticated?

    What the hell is this video watchmojo ? ?!! These animals are not pets! They are wild animals, endangered for the most part. And should not be allowed to be house pets! This stupid video is promoting that kind of behavior. Animals are not fashion objects ! They are living beeings! If you want a pet, adopt one of these abandoned dogs or cats, you'll be a hero...

    • @chapstickwarrior9277

      Spiderific! I said most of these animals, meaning snakes, birds, dogs, cats, etc. Chimpanzees are definitely not good pets and should be kept in the wild and/or a loving chimp sanctuary. I do agree with you, though... Chimps do best in the wild.

    • @Usulcardo
      @Usulcardo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Koopa Troopa Poopa The Hyacinth macaw for example, is extremely endangered, protected by the Washington Convention and should not be allowed as pet. Macaws and other parrots are extremely difficult to take care of and most of the people who buy one don't know a thing about taking care of parrots. They buy them just because they're pretty and they can talk. This is so stupid. Overall, this video is stupid. The only proper pets are dogs, cats, rats, mice, hamsters, etc not chimps, birds, and lions. They belong to nature and sanctuaries to save them not keeping them as pets.

    • @chapstickwarrior9277
      @chapstickwarrior9277 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Invincible Nightmare Yeah, I guess you're right! I think an endangered and very high maintenance bird should not be allowed as a pet. But, since they are in fact in the pet trade, they should only be allowed to be sold to advanced parrot owners - someone that knows how to care for a parrot correctly. But you're definitely right! A lot of these animals should not be pets.

    • @karipuusaari8819
      @karipuusaari8819 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Invincible Nightmare no pets are actual pets every single of so called pets were taken from the wild against their Will to be pets domestic cats and dogs are just wild dogs or wolf's and wild cats. Evolution just has changed them. I'm 100% sure if chimpanzee or a parrot or savannah cat would be a serious pet it would change them too

    I am going to eventually get myself a Siberian tiger cub to raise as a friend and hunting companion for me like my grandfather used to..And my grandfather is not an only person who shared home and with one for his entire life and even not the only person who managed to train one and hunt with one together so at least Siberian tigers can not be considered as the toughest of all animals to live with,neither can they be considered as rarest or the most expensive(as the pure bred Siberian tiger cub costs around 5 thousand dollars and is found in numbers of several thousand in captivity while a white stripeless tiger cub is going to be as much as 1.5 million dollars and there are only less than 30 in captivity and zero in the wild by obvious reasons)-so which animal is the most dangerous for people and hard to bond with?The polar bear.And this is not about their superior strength or agility:I am actually sure that when I will raise my hunting companion to the best of my ability-I will be able to eventually take him or her to hunt exactly those polar bears at some point:the orange striped assassin will do the job with perhaps a couple of scratches bringing down the creature but will obviously never try to kill me after all!And that is the main difference between living with a Siberian tiger as a friend and family member and attempting to live with an only species on the planet that fully regards us as food!So here is why through the whole history the number of people who were able to work with polar bears at all is less than 10 and only one of them ever kept one as pet!

    I don't know. Maybe people should stop with the exoctic/insanely expensive pets. I mean, what's wrong with regularly priced dogs and cats? And some of the animals on here are actually seen as being dangerous. I've seen Fatal Attractions. I'm not saying that no one can or should keep exotic/expensive animals. There are legit and understandable reasons why some people keep these kinds of animals. Some people run sanctuaries and care for exotic animals that have been kept in captivity by people who kept them in poor living conditions and were shut down because they didn't meet standards or take in exotic animals because they can't fend for themselves because they are too young or something. But to people that go out of their way to get an exotic or expensive animal because they want a pet, maybe going for normal pets would be better. There are dogs and cats all around in places like shelters or even on the streets that were abandoned that actually want a home and are actually for companionship that make great pets for very cheap and sometimes free. No need to spend a lot of money on something that is more difficult to find, more difficult to replace, higher maintenance, and something that generally doesn't make for as good a pet as the normal cat and dog. And if people want to go more out of the box for a pet, get a farm animal like a chicken, pig, goat, sheep or something like that. That's just what I think. If you are reading this and you already have an exotic pet, don't give it up or anything just because of what I say unless you are having difficulties with it or find you cannot take care of it properly.

    Tibetian Mastiff is the best out off all of em cause dogs were bread to defend against bears & wolf's so if you have a tibetian Mastiff your home is fully safe & protected , because these dogs are super protective and aggressive and these dogs will put their life on line to defend their loved ones ! (and it's hard to take em out cause they all that harsh hair coat).
