Hi Yuenny. I have used the saloman active skin 8 for the past couple of years and all long runs leading up to London. I have 2 x 500ml soft flasks and a large bladder is a separate pocket in back. I prefer using the bladder to move the weight to the back, rather than the front and it means all the pockets are available for gels, snacks etc. It's been great. Plenty of pockets and no chaffing, but a couple of weeks ago the zip on one of the pockets broke. It is now held together with extra safety pins so it is still useable, just looks a bit "Goth" 😁 . For shorter runs I just use a belt with a single large pocket for phone and keys (cheap version from amazon, bought about 3 years ago). It is fine anytime I don't need to carry water. For longer runs I tend to use both pack and belt. I can carry everything I need including extra jacket and even a change of shoes in the bungee straps on the back. I can't imagine trying to run a marathon distance without the pack to be honest. I have looked at larger belts as an option, but haven't found any suitable products yet. I would be very interested to get your feedback from the two belts you are experimenting with.

I'm interested in the Salomon ADV Skin 12 to replace my Harrier Curbal 5L, especially if I'm going to run UTS 25 again. The 5L just wasn't enough, even though it wasn't a really long distance. I think I prefer the front bottles and that's probably why I find that I don't have enough space. I used a cheap waist belt I got from Amazon too for many years. And then I was gifted the Salomon Pulse Belt for Christmas which replaced the Amazon one. Training and running a Marathon without a vest is certainly going to be a challenge. The Camelbak has worked surprisingly well when I took it out last weekend for a test run. I'm just hoping it's enough to carry everything in Chicago, but I might have to ditch the jelly babies because there's not going to be enough space to carry those 😕

@@YuennyLam I have started taking the jelly babies out of the original bag and transferring them to a couple of smaller zip lock freezer bags. Easier to pack, access and refill at aid stations. I have also trialed the magnetic bib holders. I picked up a set for £5 from a Run Through event recently. They don't pierce or mark my tops and haven't failed yet. I'm still a little nervous in case they pop off, so have some energy safety pins in my pack just in case

@@tonymayall5039 I think I might have to do the same with the way I carry jelly babies. Hopefully I can still fit some in my belt. I have another belt where I attach my bib to. I need to cut holes in the top corners, put the elastic ends through the holes and use the toggles to secure. Works quite well but it means I have to wear another thing around my waist when I run. I feel like I'd be worried about the magnets too. I'm surprised there aren't other better ways to attach bibs to t-shirts without ruining them.

there have been many changes over the years.
Back in the 80th nobody carried anything. If htere was an aid station, youcould have cup of wTER OR piece of banana.
In the early 90th i used a fanny pack to put in a flash light, a water bottle and a sony walkman with a couple of casettes
I bought a hydration vest sometime around 2015, but it did not work for me. So i got a belt-, which i now use on my longer runs, to put in 2 small water bottles, 1 or 2 bananas, my phone, my keys and pepper spray. I will not buy a hydrationvest again, i need to breath free

@@justanoldfashionedrunner605 I do find wearing a hydration vest very hot in the summer but I run so slowly, I feel like I need to be able to carry fuel and definitely water when it's hot on a long run. I'm hoping to find a good belt that will carry enough stuff for Chicago at least. I wish I could carry pepper spray. It's illegal here in the UK so I have nothing in terms of self-defence. One reason I hate running in the dark on my own 😞 but I can't avoid running in the dark when winter days are so short. It's weird to think people used to carry Walkman and cassettes 😄 I remember when car stereos automatically flipped the tapes from side A to B, the technology was fascinating 😂

@@YuennyLam yes, it is funny, i never tought about the weight of the walkman and the casettes, i even lost one of my 2 waterbottles, because the fanny pack ( the name of the product was performance pack🤣) was too small.
I got a belt, called naked running band, and it works great. I guess you could put 3 soft flask into the belt. If you get running shorts with some pockets with a zipper, you could put keys and phone into those pockets and together with the water from the aid stations you had more than enough no matter of the pace you run.
I actually don`t know anything about the legality, many years ago i ran with an electric shocker, but i got rid of it, because i thought i might accidently hurt myself. Not feeling safe on a run takes away a lot of the fun, i couldn`t do it, i am a man and need some safety device, but to prohibite women to have some defence on a run is very bad

I guess if you didn't know any different then what you have and use is the norm. Things keep improving so fast as well. I've heard of the Naked belt but I don't think it'll work for me with hips 😒 I bought the Salomon Adv Skin belt before, but the width was quite big and as soon as I moved (even just walked around the house) the belt was rising up so I returned it straight away because it's no good. I feel like I will have the same problem with Naked. I'll look out for some shorts with pockets. I've always been intrigued and wanted to try, so maybe now is the time.
Yeah unfortunately everything is classed as a weapon and illegal here. Female runners do get attacked and there have been really bad cases but there's nothing we can do other than just accept the risk. Honestly, I don't feel very safe when I'm out by myself, but I either worry about it and never run or just accept there is a chance someone might come after me. And if you hurt someone due to self defence you could be arrested. It's really bad 😞
