I'm not sure I understand the question, but a 28" barrel will shoot as far as a 30 or 32 or 34" barrel. You would just have different control and eye sight on different barrel lengths.
Pattern has nothing to do with the barrel length but the choke and bore size. Different manufactures have different bore sizes. Hence why shotguns are different in price. Shorter barrels are for speed and longer barrels are for control. Also the heavier the gun and if it has pots red barrels means more control after the first shot. Also the type of shot needs to taking into the situation. All in all if the gun doesn't fit, you won't hit sh*t
