ในบทเพลง มาร์ชเจ้าพระยา "เจ้าพระยา" ในที่นี้ หมายถึง แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา อันเป็นแม่น้ำสายสำคัญของไทย โดยผู้ประพันธ์ได้พยายามสร้างบรรยากาศที่พริ้วไหวของสายน้ำผ่านทำนองของบทเพลงที่มีขึ้นลงเป็นครึ่งเสียง มีการกระโดดไปมา และ มีระดับความดังเบาที่ต่างกัน นอกจากนี้แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาถือเป็นแม่น้ำที่มีความสัมพันธ์ต่อประเพณีไทย เช่น กระบวนพยุหยาตราชลมารค อันเป็นกระบวนเสด็จพระราชดำเนินทางน้ำที่เป็นราชประเพณีไทยที่มีมาแต่โบราณ ผู้ประพันธ์จึงได้นำทำนองเพลงเห่เรือมาใส่ในบทเพลงด้วย
บทเพลงนี้มีการใช้ ฉิ่ง และ กลองยาว ในกรณีที่ไม่มีเครื่องดนตรีดังกล่าว สามารถใช้ Triangle แทนฉิ่ง และ Conga ที่ต่างกันสองเสียงแทนกลองยาวได้
In Chao Phraya March, the word "Chao Phraya" came from the Chao Phraya River which is the major river in Thailand. The composer has tried to depict such flowing stream characteristics through the melodic line by using chromatics, leaping intervals, and different dynamics. In addition to being a major river in Thailand, Chao Phraya River has associated with various ceremony through times including Royal Barge Procession, therefore, in rehearsal mark C, D, K, and L, the composer has quoted the traditional tune that associated with the procession.
This piece includes Ching and Klong Yao which are Thai traditional instruments. In case that the ensemble does not have the instruments, triangle can be used instead of Ching and two Congas instead of Klong Yao.
