Nice video. I have 5 string version with two humbuckers on it. Honestly, I did not like string spacing; it was too small for my fingers. So I put small spacers in the bridge to widen the string for my playing. It worked out well. The sound is just awesome I loved the Growl of the Musicmann. I’m a Fender Jazz Bass guy, but this is one of my go to Basses.

I wish I would have known about the double humbucker version when I was first saw this bass! I have to agree that the only draw back is the string spacing. I’m gonna have to try the spacers method and see how I like it!

I have the 2 pickup version. The pickup is good but they wired it in series and its missing the clarity. I changed it to parallel wiring and installed Bartolini preamp and its amazing

Yeah I definitely understand what you are saying! I can't wait to change the pickup and pre-amp in mine!

Nice. I have the 4-string StingRay version; amazing bass, plays as well as my $2,500 Ball Family Reserve, no setup necessary. I installed an Aguilar AG-4M pickup and Aguilar OBP-3SK/PP preamp, string change of course. . I played a Ray5 and they are amazing. I later bought a Squier 5-string Jazz Bass which I upgraded with WIlkerson pickups which made all the difference, String change of course. I have been playing the Squier almost exclusively as it plays and sounds great, but it needed a setup and fret edges filed. I played it at church yesterday and it was fun to incorporate the B string into some of the songs. Enjoy. Check out Low End Lobster who changed out pickups and preamps, and I liked the Aguilar pickup/preamp the best, sounds excellent. th-cam.com/video/APjwrZ97mcY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/d-4GjMN_4B8/w-d-xo.html

What made you decide to get a 5-string?

I can't speak for him but personally for me I can't go back to the 4 after having the flexibility of a 5 string. Not needing to downtune the E string and being able to transpose songs of different tunings for myself and working out fingering patterns that work better for me is invaluable.

Once you get accustomed to a five it’s hard to go back from what I hear. I didn’t play for years and started back and got a 5 but for me it was more comfortable to run with a 4. My only issue with these is weight. I have a Sterling Ray34. It’s about 10lbs and while it’s a joy to play it weighs on my back after awhile. Some day I’ll spring for a US EBMM stingray as they are typically lighter. Not to sound cliche but for the price Sterlings are great basses. If you can the Ray 34 and 35 will get you closer to a US spec.

Honestly a 5-string bass was the first bass my dad ever bought me and the first instrument I ever owned.
I made a video about my first bass here! th-cam.com/video/2iW3TNsUhkI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UpVqEQ059tuYsuEH
But I prefer 5-string basses, not just for the extra 5th string, but also because they tend to do better handling lower tunings. For example, I tuned all of my 5-string basses (except my first bass) to A-D-G-C-F.
However, on the flipside of that when I got my first 4-string bass, which is a Yamaha fretless. I felt that I was at a learning curve because I didn’t have the extra string to rely on. Which caused me to really learn the instrument!
