I am sure many of these bikes done a short stint until we could get bigger ones! I never had one back in the day but did admire them. Looking forward to riding this on as soon as its done. Thanks for watching
John, great to hear. I hope you are progressing well with your bike. I will be working on mine this weekend, just waiting on some parts arriving! Sending my best from Scotland
I've rebuilt Z200/250 singles . I redesigned the ATU cam to hold a bearing and fitted later casing and flywheel with a cdi. It flew boy, it flew! The flywheel comes off with a threaded bar.
hi, really enjoyed this video. The z200 was the first real bike that I had, previously had a cz125, what a difference! Keep the videos coming, I look forward to them
Thanks for your comment, I had never ridden one back in the day, but did admire the little Z. The final round of parts have arrived today so I am looking forward to finishing it and getting it ready for the road. I should have a video out of this very soon. CZs where quite quirky, I had a go on one years ago, think it was a 175, don’t see many of them now. Have had loads of MZs, wish I still had them! Sending my best.
Solid little bike those . One thing I would do is swap out the cable front brake for a hydraulic one . I wonder if those have a decompressor for starting . I think my KLR250 did .
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I wondered about a decrompressor, should find out quite soon! I believe a few people have made a hydraulic brake conversion on these, I would imagine that to be a worthwhile upgrade!
I've got a '79 KZ200 John - although mine was a rat, so it's been fully rebuilt and customised to become a green lane style scrambler. Mine runs rich all the time (aftermarket Carb) but honestly I think that how they were built! Have you considered upgrading the points to electric?
Joss, I have not looked into an electronic ignition, be interesting to find out about it. Mine also runs rich at the moment on the standard card, trying to sort that out! Sending my best.
My first bike in 1980 was a Z200. I kept it for about 3 months until I passed my test, when I traded up to a bigger bike.

Hi John, I currently have the same bike which I'm also fixing. Great to know I'm not alone. I'm in South Africa.

In my country this Kawa was object of envy in my youth. Great Find!
Thank you, I am very pleased I found it. A neighbour of mine had one years ago, it stuck in my mind as it was such a handsome little bike!

Interesting conversion, I think the original CDI units are quite hard to find these days.
