    I’m fortunate that the LFL in my neighborhood is amazingly curated. The lady changes out books on a near weekly basis and always keeps it full. I consistently find good books, including ARCs of not-yet-released books!
    I don’t think people realize how much work it takes to manage a LFL and manage it well before they commit to having one.

    • @haleyarzt4252

      BriKie I agree it is a lot of work and it’s hard to accumulate books to give away for free. It has to be a passion of yours to keep up with it.

      that's a good pint - it looks so cute and i can see how someone would put one up and then think it would just take care of itself. you could definitely tell which ones were loved by the resident and which were not. so awesome that you have one near you that it trusty! it seems like it could be an awesome reading resource if well maintained!

    In all fairness, The free little library's original intent was for local people to walk to, especially young readers, and elderly who can't go far. The books not ending up in a landfill is great on the environment, so it all evens out. I would love if the landlord let me put one out front. My neighborhood is middle to low income. I give the kids in my building books, they eat them like chocolate. I would fill it myself.

    Isn’t the fun supposed to be about SHARING good books with your neighbors? All these little free library unhaul videos I see, the youTuber is just looking for good freebies, but only willing to contribute a book they DIDN’T like. And that’s only if thy can trade a lousy book for a good one! Why not be a force for good and stock those book boxes up with books you loved? Try leaving your books whether or not you find one one to take?

      I've noticed this too. But I've seen some videos (don't ask me which, I've been watching so many) where the youtuber did leave books despite not finding anything. Unfortunately, they seem to be the minority.

Sadly, there were only two within a 30 mile radius and neither had anything I wanted. It was cool seeing how cute they were though and even better to add some books to the not so great collection 🙈 You should definitely do a part two!

    Just because you didn’t find a book to suit your interest doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a treasure of a find for someone else. And ….people are free to exchange at any time. The content is always different. Who’s to say there wasn’t a great find to be found in the next drop off. It’s all by chance. And that should be the thrill of it. Also- maybe open your mind to reading new things. The benefits of this program are to bring litterateur to those who can’t easily access it from other means. Not to drive around in your vehicle and cast judgment while- -as you said yourself- hurting our environment. It is meant to be a neighborhood treasure. Maybe enjoy finding a good book on a walk with your child or stop by a spot on the way to run an errand. The books are ever changing.

    • @maureenp2248
      @maureenp2248 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Marty Abreu public libraries serve a different purpose than little free libraries. I go to the public library basically every week to borrow/return books, but the point of a public library is that they buy books from the publisher to lend + you have to return the books to them. When someone takes a book from a little free library, they can keep it forever if they want. It's also a good way of getting rid of books you bought/got as a gift but don't want to keep. My local public library doesn't accept book donations from the public--they only buy direct from the publishers-- so little free libraries are a great option when decluttering.

    Salman Rushdie was a super controversial writer back in the late 80s early 90s. His fourth novel, The Satanic Verses (1988), was the subject of a major controversy, provoking protests from Muslims in several countries. Death threats were made against him, including a fatwā calling for his assassination issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the Supreme Leader of Iran, on 14 February 1989. The British government put Rushdie under police protection. AND he was in hiding for a long time so that he would not be murdered. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salman_Rushdie

    This was fun. Those little free libraries are often a bust. I think they make sense if you live somewhere where libraries are far away, but I might as well go to a normal library and get what I want haha

    I just watched a video somewhere that introduced the concept of little free libraries. [I think it was about some kind of controversy about their proliferation or what people where finding 🤷‍♂️] Thank you for sharing your experience, and the music selection. I'm almost finished with Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic: It is singing a song [to me] that I've needed to hear this month. I will probably need to re-read this EVERY October [Because Birthday & NanoWriMo]. It is also nice to see Austin, Tx is getting something that looks like fall. We had a peculiar transition & our 1st snow while we still had some green on the trees.

      Fall is great here! And that day in particular was perfect weather for walking around town. ooo I haven't read "Big Magic" but the cover for it is super eye catching and I really enjoy her voice, I can see how her thoughts could be helpful with all of those. boo to green leaves and snow!

      @@GirlAboutLibrary I think the great stories are out there & getting shared. It's great that the Little Free Library is opening reading to people. I have been aggressively looking for books to complete some of my favorite series. This year I was able to find a 1st edition of Second Foundation, Pattern Recognition & Spook Country from library sales. It is on me to enjoy these books, preserve them & pass them forward after my time to another generation.
