- You can now generate a row of color chips with color names and swatch information for presenting your artwork. Select the swatches, and in the Swatches panel options flyout menu, choose Create Swatch Info...
In this video, I show you how it works and some of the limitations in the early version of this feature. Plus, we look at two other new color swatch features in Illustrator that let you generate gradients and add pattern fill and gradient swatches to groups.
00:30 Generate a linear gradient from a selection of color swatches.
02:00 Save Pattern fill and Gradient swatches in color groups.
04:15 Use the new Color Swatch Info feature.
⚠️Be careful using the Eyedropper tool on the color chips. If you created from global swatches, that global color is not attached to the chip. Using the eyedropper on the chip will apply an approximation of the color, not the global color. I discovered this after I made the video. 🙁 I think it makes it difficult to use this feature professionally, not knowing how others on your team might inadvertently sample the wrong color. Please let Adobe know (I have) using the feedback link in the dialog for Swatch Info.

Just discovered your quality channel, clarifying new features, thank you so much!
You're so welcome!
Your video is fantastic with very clear explanations. From now on, I'll be following you.
However, Adobe's features are becoming more pathetic by the day.
Thank you! Yes, I think this color swatch info feature needs more time in the oven for sure ;-)
Simple clear, high quality video 👍
Thank you!
Great vid, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Love the vid and your channel! Question: How do you have Pantone Swatches in Illustrator since the partnership discontinued?
Thank you! I use the library I have from the last Pantone Bridge book I bought before they switched to their app. The app is Pantone Connect, there is a fee to use it, and it lets you add swatches to Illustrator. Last I checked, it was difficult to use, and it didn’t allow you to load a whole book into Illustrator all at once, like before. But look into it, my last Connect experience was over a year ago. Let’s hope it’s improved!
