I'm surprised that it's not mentioned but the one obvious design choice about Lars is that he's supposed to be the "New" Mishima when he first became playable. Being the son of Heihachi, the "Mishima" gameplay was modified as such that his "wavedash" was just a command or a stance (Dynamic, Silent Entry). And of course the infamous "50/50" playstyle.
Except original Lars 50-50 was giga weak. He excelled in fishing counter hit with df2 and keeping movement in check with 12 (where the 2 tracked) and df2 (which also had very good tracking). His stances had no lows (only SEN2, which was borderline seeable). FF43 was -5 on hit.
@@Carsu12 When you say "giga weak" do you mean you defeated every Lars player you've fought or you used Lars and had hard time with it? These type of comments are funny to me when there are millions of Tekken players and there's no exact way to know who play Lars offline/online.
@@jinkazama7587 he's referring to the so called "50/50" you mentioned when T6 Lars had nothing to do with Mishima 50/50 gameplay, he had no lows from Dynamic Entry stance, and his SE2 was launch punishable in T6 and Tag 2, so I don't know just what 50/50 you're talking. Mishima hellsweep is not a seeable low, while DE2 was not only launch punishable on block, it didn't lead to any combos on CH, and it was semi-seeable, so it was a risky low to be throwing out when it wasn't -12 back then.
@@jinkazama7587 No, I'm talking about moves and their properties. They don't run on hopes and dreams. Learn to read with comprehension. I feel like I explained my point sufficiently.
Lars just needs better poking and safer launcher's. He used to have godlike poking in Tekken 6, but they nerfed it going into Tekken 7. His uf3 was also safer in T6. Same with his 14f launcher. Imo if he had better utility with his launcher's, better movement, better poking, and more CH's on 15f pokes then he would be a solid character. He also has poor tracking on most of his moves. His combo's are amazing, and his wall carry is also good, but in high level play that's not important when it's hard to get in. Most of his powerful moves are locked behind stances. The only good move that Lars really has is B1, a safe CH knock-down mid that gives you a mix-up if it lands. If they made this move a launcher...Lars would be finally be viable in a tournament...well kind of.
what you mean his 14F launcher? his FB21 was always launch punishable if blocked. He just needs his old DF2 back then it'll be a night and day difference, should have been just an UF2 input or something, instead of the stupid full crouch move, never ever understand giving him that move from a FC as if he has any mix up outside of fc df 1+2 which only tickles people, it's not like he's got a shaheen/law/Lee slide that might harass people enough to block low, tie my shoe lace isn't enough for people to start ducking.
Lars is perfectly balanced, you need to nerf who above him. And its good that they nerf lughting screw and i14 punish because they have to be very punishble. And his i15 ch is amazing. Not launch, but solid tracking, insane range and good frames and damage even without ch.
@@bludika Ik that, I mean it safer in the game by 2 frames, and uf3 was also better. The 14f launcher can remain that way on block, but I feel like his uf3 should be way safer on block, because -26 is to much for a 16f that crushes highs. I'm saying B1 should become his new 15f launcher, because df2 is a crouch move now, and tbh it gives him a crouch mix-up with fully crouch df1+2, so I don't mind it being in crouch. For B1 to be a CH launcher tho, they might need to nerf the range it has and only make it track to his left and not make it track to both sides. Also his orbital imo does need a buff. It's too slow, this thing comes it 25-27f, and on whiff it takes ages to recover, and it doesn't have any sort of tracking to any side.

@@djw_tekken8490 like TMM said, whats the point of Such Wall carry when you have no way to start the combo? Beside there are rare situations where you need a Wall carry this long, every character will get a Wall from the center of a stage.
You forgot his only decent launcher, ff1+2. Good range, mid, safe, average speed, but steppable, combos only on ch, and it's directly a spin combo unfortunately, so no 1375479 damage. He has a little more direct launcher in f3,2 than in other stance launchers, but it has its issues as well. About anything else, he has mediocre movements and neutral. He may try to use b1 to cover some of his most linear moves, but that's it. His lows are, well, very risky, and only db4 gives proper rewards for the amount of risk you take. Theres so much I want for Lars. Buff his lows, give us the old DF2 and DE1+2 back. The current DF 2, 1 can be UF 2, 1 or something. His launchers should be safer but not safe. Id prefer arc blast as the 14 frame punish tbh but its fine as is. He needs to change one of his wall bounce moves cause they’re both locked behind a stance. Last thing he is pretty sluggish so give him some tracking or better movement but not both.
It would suit Lars style I think, to give ark blast phantom range and have it so at certain ranges you can’t reach the punish. As in, it should have the range to whiff punish, but be safe for Lars if zoned perfectly.
Lars is the most fun I've had in this game next to bears but he's also the character I got bodied with the most. His mixups are fake and not scary. His lows are just so God awful why even have lows at all. Still hella cool though.

Lars has not been the same since they replaced his standing d/f 2 in Tekken 7. It was such an important part of his offence because it was his only practical, low risk way of landing a CH launcher.

Before I even watch the video - 1. Shit launcher damage. Most are like 20 but everybody else is like 25. 2. Great wall carry yes but have you ever heard of Infinite Azure? 3. Ark Blast or F+1+2 should be his fastest punish move imo. It needs a buff
1. His launcher damage is actually on the better end, most i15 launchers deal 13-15 damage. 2. Good point, though he still has good combo damage without walls. But it's a solid argument. 3. He actually has a 14 frame launcher, one of the few in the game, and with zero execution. Lars punishment most certainly does not need a buff, he's good one of the best in the game. I personally feel like people are exaggerating about some of his weaknesses, and main reason is that he was busted before, and people got used to these versions of him. And also the fact that safe generic df2's are still a thing in this game, giving every other launcher a worse risk/reward ratio in comparison. Even though I personally believe that a -13 mid-mid super fast launcher that gives ~70 dmg or ~100+ with walls is a good in terms of risk/reward, it pales in comparison to the plethora of safe df2s, magic 4s and b1.
His best CH move in the neutral, that is also relatively safe now is ff1+2, but the problem with this move is the ff input. It makes the move predictable and much slower than it actually is, additionally the combo is an instant screw so you don't take full advantage of his wall carry, which he is now so known for. On top of all that, it's extremely linear... I find it absurd that ff1+2 was -11 throughout the entirety of Tekken 7 until just recently with the season 4 patch that made it -9.....They keep buffing his stances, but what he needs the most help is in the neutral....
As a Lars player, IMO his difficulty should be high. No execution that much but you'll be tested on his gameplay. Maybe they can switch DF2,1 to during crouch DF2,1 and have the old classic Lars DF2 back since he already had silent entry 3+4 as tail spin for his combos.
no need to make df21 from FC, just make it an UF21 input lol, and bring back to the old df2, problem solved. I also would like his 1+2, 2 move, because it was cancellable, never understood why they got rid of that move just to make room for the RA input...1+2 inputs suck for rage art too since you can accidentally trigger it when trying to break 1+2 throws, his rage art input could have easily been something like F 2+3 or something or UB 1+2.
@@bludika that works too. Or maybe they should've removed D1+2 and replace it as a rage art command. That Low attack isnt good anyway. I also like your idea of bringing back Lars' 1+2,2. That way you can do some set ups.
Considering how flashy Lars is, his neutral movement should be on par with Zafina's. And for the same reason I think he should really has at least one good CH launcher.
Lars actually doesn't appear very agile, but rather, he's quick like a sprinter. Aesthetically, it makes sense for him to have quick moves that cover a lot of distance, but have high recovery, but it wouldn't really make sense for him to have small, nimble movements. I'm pretty sure a lot of his design and move bands take inspiration from lighting, which is linear, but fast and powerful. But again, that's just artistically speaking
@@painandpyro Yeah, I like your vision and explanation and I agree in certain things. But been inspired by lightning, Lars represent speed and fast dashing movement. For me it doesn't connect with sluggish side movement. He has entries, which still would seem more significant than any side-step and keep his forward movement his brightest characteristic, even if he had better side-steps and backdash. His stances looks cool, but gameplay wise he is slow. Not a lightning at all. It seems wrong to me.
@@WunjoYT I'm personally not a fan of him having an amazing sidestep (because I still have problems against him haha), but a happy middle ground could be some sort of lateral evasion out of either of his entries/other moves, like Alisa "sidestep" with chainsaws. His 14 frame pun and arc blast still feel very "fast" to me, but he seems like a character that's hard to balance, little tweaks make him either op or low tier, its hard to find a middle ground for him. Maybe making something like df21 minus 13? Or even similar to a normal df2? The thing is, you cant really (or at least, SHOULDNT) have amazing combos AND amazing launchers, so idk end of the day
Lars isn't scary. No mixups, no pressure, no good CH game. Great defense, no real offense. I think the worse aspect that's holding him back is his lack of movement. And unlike Gigas, his damage doesn't really make up for his lack of launch power. Gigas is almost always two good decisions from a round. Lars just doesn't have the output you'd look for with his tools. Increase his movement, make 111 safe on block and force crouch on hit/block, and make df1,3 +4 on hit... Lars would be better. His just seriously has no viable options to get into his damage without block punishment or great conditioning.
He has ff1+2. quick rangy mid CH launcher in neutral. Safe with PUSHBACK. insanely cheap if you ask me. When I played him I did like 5 ff1+2s ever round. Steppable but the tracking isn't too bad. Gotta be timed. It might have slightly less tracking and dmg than FC df2 but you don't lose your turn completely which is a big deal in neutral.
Up until s4 it was -11 and many characters could punish it. Right now its -9. Its good tool that he has, nothing too crazy or outstanding. And it doesn’t have THAT much pushback to say that you dont lose your turn
@@kaspermorrigan8722 It always had pushback. Not many chars have very rangy i11 moves at their disposal. Gigas I guess. At a good range. And to the pushback... Let me say just this: If you hit it on roughly tip range Leroys orbital whiffs, his hellsweep whiffs. his jabs whiff, his df1 whiffs etc. etc. The pushback is not bad. And jabs and df1s whiff even on nonwhere near tip range. I played Lars :) I know this stuff cause I abused it like crazy.
@@pablotheimmortal6440 you didn’t need rangy i11 at disposal. Being as inconsistent as T7 is, pushback is different every time you hit a move so I had my ff1+2 punished by kazuyas 112 for example

Lars use to be my main but I switched to leo reason being because when I play games I like characters like leo to me its easier to play with leo than lars
I think Lars is higher tier than trash tier with a defensive mindeset, If he had Zafina's backdash, what would we be the result of the character is my question.
Not every launcher is gonna get you to the wall. That wall carry you did can't be done from ark blast for example and it doesn't mean the Lars player is making any mistake

I wished they changed his inputs around and have his d/f 2,1 to u/f 2,1 and replace while standing d/f 2 to a normal d/f 2. so it can be a better counter move to stun.
Lars in Tekken 6 is brilliant and Tekken Tag 2 he wasn't bad either. Despite having a great drip he got nerfed to oblivion in Tekken 7 since he's a beginner character. Still have love for him even if he's no where near his Tekken 6 form.
I love Lars and I learned the game with him but the more I learned the the less I enjoyed playing him. He's so clunky it feels like you're always playing at a huge disadvantage for no reason. I really hope he gets some adjustments soon
it's alright though because it makes him an interesting character, have good combo but weak launcher, like heihachi having a good mid and overall but weak low, having a weakness in character only makes you think on how to cover it.
Lars is cool for this but compared to Julia, she actually has a high crushing safe 15f launcher. Combine that with her insane wall carry, she has the best overall combos in the game.
@@TheUnique69able What are you talking about? Julia's QCF2 is 15f high, high crushes, safe on block. its -8. Her other 15f launcher df2,1 is unsafe at -18
I was killed by a friend using lars with his fucking 90-100dmg combos - but it made me learn how to play Tekken, because I had to learn how not to get launched - or die
I mean, eddy and chloe is considered low tier but they do work both online and definitely tournaments. Johndding, Abel is already crazy with eddy. Now kaizer is doing work with Chloe as well. Nobody should be considered C tier and below imo. All of the casts do great damage including the bears. No character has no reason to be played because most likely, they’d have things that is crazy in terms of other higher tier characters [for some reason] or even in other characters in general. My point is that nobody is a bad character/bad picks because bad characters in Tekken 7 doesn’t exists. No cap.
I'm confused, should a launcher be fast and safe on block??? Personally he is one of the most annoying characters because of that dash stance sou the whole match you see this crazy tornado of a lars just screaming and dashing all over the place it's a mess, they should have made him play a bit more normal imo
A launcher should be at least 15 frames but safe on block launcher is quite good, if Lars's f1+2 is -12, it is quite fine. A launcher for example Bryan's Jet Upper, it is 14 frames and it is safe on block and you can buffer it, that is extremely good, but in Lars's case, his most decent launcher from neutral is f1+2, its 15 frames and its -13. I don't really includes fb2,1. Sure it is a 14 frame launcher but it is a whopping -18 on block, every character in the cast can launch it.
Lars is probably Tekkens best original characters today even though he sucks. He's fun to watch and play but I'd rather really play Panda over him tbh.
you cant rly mention kazumi as a comparison and only mention that she has a magic 4(that gives her low damage) when all her other launchers are absolute poop
1:35 yet again TMM tells his tainted half-truths. How can this be a longest distance if you could carry him along the diagonal of the same stage (diagonal is the longest distance in a rectangle ) 😡😡😡😡

@@jinkazama7587 🤣🤣 exactly he didnt even answer ur question he play lars obviously and has a hard time im jin main too ure on ps4?
Yes he has the best combos and still suck. He has long range wall carry combos and very easy too.
@@FlKatatsu what 15 ch....whats your rank lol

His old df+2 is what kept me feeling like Kazuya's brother back in TTT2. The input change was utterly disappointing.
They should replace the current DF2,1 into UF2,1 then the old DF2 should return and can be used in both standing and crouching
@@aaguy63 That’s a great suggestion.
Very sad that such a dynamic character has been so nerfed since the other games.
FF 1+2 isn't that bad, but it does have tracking issues, and fact that it Screws on CH hurts him a lot.

Theres so much I want for Lars. Buff his lows, give us the old DF2 and DE1+2 back. The current DF 2, 1 can be UF 2, 1 or something. His launchers should be safer but not safe. 1.

You’re right sir
His best CH move in the neutral, that is also relatively safe now is ff1+2, but the problem with this move is the ff input. It makes the move predictable and much slower than it actually is, additionally the combo is an instant screw so you don't take full advantage of his wall carry, which he is now so known for. On top of all that, it's extremely linear... I find it absurd that ff1+2 was -11 throughout the entirety of Tekken 7 until just recently with the season 4 patch that made it -9.....They keep buffing his stances, but what he needs the most help is in the neutral....
always wondered why i never seen lars in T7, makes sense
Lars can Wall on infinite azure …
As a Lars player, IMO his difficulty should be high. No execution that much but you'll be tested on his gameplay. Maybe they can switch DF2,1 to during crouch DF2,1 and have the old classic Lars DF2 back since he already had silent entry 3+4 as tail spin for his combos.
Yes
no need to make df21 from FC, just make it an UF21 input lol, and bring back to the old df2, problem solved.
@@caffeholictj1708 ehhhh d1+2 has its use, especially in the CBM combo, but yea, there was NO reason to remove the 1+2, 2 move...
