    Destiny 2's Lore and story tells us about the Raid Exotic weapon from Vow of the Disciple. It partially mentions a pile of dead ghosts, and from there we can explore a fascinating moment, where Rhulk spoke to one of the ghosts in Savathun's throne world. A ghost that might momentarily have been possessed by the Traveller?

      Freedom is a chain. Choice is a prison.
      You see him, and all he wishes for is confirmation of that fact. But to do so would invoke something far worse than justification. You can feel his hand, reaching inside of you, grasping for your heart and tearing it free for himself. You know the pain he will cause.
      In one last act of defiance you break your shackles, exerting the strength you had been slowly gathering all this time. Physical chains break, but chains of causality are not so fragile, even for you.
      You see him and he is satisfied. Then, he is gone. Your roar of defiance echoes into the infinite. You know they will witness.
      It is only a matter of time.

      Only thing I disagree with here is that you made it sound like many other raids aren’t tied to the main narrative. Crota was a direct threat to humanity while on the Moon so we killed him. Killing him caused Oryx to come which the event of Oryx coming helped rebuild relations with Mara Sov. Mara helping us caused Riven to be taken and caused Uldren to descend into madness. Oryx never coming to invade means the Dreaming City is never taken and most of Destiny 2 doesn’t happen. So at least to me I’ve always felt like most raids are important to the main narrative. Even if the narrative has shifted those raids are part of the reason the narrative is able to shift.

      I think in part the reason Guardians can use both is because of some interesting circumstances.
      The Awoken for example were reborn into a world born of the clash of Light and Darkness.
      The Exo were born from the Darkness-imbued Clarity and the Alkahest, while retaining still retaining most their humanity (and spark).
      And baseline Humans? Many drowned in the Deep, during the Collapse. Yet when the Traveller pushed the Black Fleet back, it brought back the Light.
      I think all three of the human variants all have been touched by the Light and Darkness enough to be able wield both. Especially the Awoken.

    Rhulk referring to the Traveler as “imperious sun” reinforces my growing theory that all the “blue suns” around these worlds in the lore are actually Traveler-like entities. It makes a lot of those stories make more sense imo, especially if our Traveler is the only “ship” of its kind left.

    • @tacticalcookie4709
      @tacticalcookie4709 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      This makes sense, a good example of this theory is when Rhulk is speaking in the raid about Lubrae’s fate, the “Blue” from which they drew their “power” and how a simple reversal of that “power” cracked the Blue in half. This is pretty telling, provided it wasn’t an overzealous description, as stars aren’t composed of solid matter, and therefore cannot ‘crack’ in the conventional sense. Not so for the Traveller, as we witnessed this happen at the end of the red war.

    To me, this just doubles down on the Traveler intentionally giving the light to the Hive. As here we are shown evidence of the Traveler choosing to actively prevent someone from being granted it. Not that we needed anymore confirmation, but it shows that the Traveler is making these decisions with agency.

      The hive have been indoctrinated into believing in the the sword logic over a long long time. If the Traveller is all about second chances then this would be a massive cultural shift for them. If the Traveller sees potential in the hive then so should we.
      It would be truly amazing if at some point in the future we were able to select Eliksni, Cabal/Psion or Hive during our character creation. Not sure how that would work with things like fitting through tight spaces and PVP, but I can hope

    • @alter6243
      @alter6243 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I’m not sure what to believe yet but I feel like the ghosts have more say in who can get the light. We saw the Traveler ignore Savathun before she died then a ghost came up to her and resurrected her. But when Ghaul forced light into himself the Traveler stepped in real quick and shut that down. The ghosts could realistically resurrect whoever they wanted as long as they were dead. We even see that ghosts have enough free will to choose a completely different race to resurrected and choose to not resurrect a guardian they’re already paired with.

    • @shadows_star
      @shadows_star 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@alter6243 Except obviously, the traveler won't allow a race it hasn't deemed 'available' to be rezed. As shown with rhulk. It never might have been free will from the ghosts when the traveler has clearly always intended for the light to go to the hive, since it seems to have visited fundement with the intention to give it to them and the witness just tricked them first. Can't be given the light when you're alive and hive are functionally just as paracasually immortal as we are at a certain point so until they were able to cast aside their worms, it just wasn't an option for them because they couldn't 'die.' They couldn't sacrifice. I wouldn't even call it ignoring her as she 'died'. The ghost arriving within the time after she died, could have been its response.

    IT. SPEAKS!! THE TRAVELLER FINALLY SPEAKS!! And such a monumental moment.... Is in a lore card.... For a ghost... From a raid.... Unlocked via a tedious series of daily tasks... I hope everyone who cares about lore finds their way here to see this moment happened. I seriously believe it was the Traveller. It's tone echos the aggressive rebuke we saw it hit Ghaul with Im the vanilla campaign ending and add that to what else we know, the signs definitely seem to be there

    This implies Ghaul only took the Light because the Traveler allowed him to. He had the traveler caged up while using the light, and once it broke free he was straight up melted into nothingness. The fact that we had to fight him wielding the light came down to the timing of it all rather than him being given it imo

      Not really. My take is that the Traveller in D1 and Up to the end of Vanilla D2 was asleep. Meaning It was barely active. When Red legion chained It It was basically in a coma/asleep, could not react. It was barely conscious and send some Visions to the speaker and to us
      After we defeat Ghaul, the Traveller finally wakes Up and shatters its Shell to destroy the Cage and Ghaul. (You defeated Ghaul, woke Up the Traveller...)
      After D2 the Traveller would be awake but damaged, which heals by season of Arrivals.
      So the Traveller didnt allow Ghaul to get the light, It took It forcefully and for itself, so the Traveller vaporized him as soon as It woke up

    At this point we’ve realized that the Darkness is a primal, paracausal force of nature. What we should fear is not the dark itself, but what is within it: the witness. We’ve come to realize that the true enemy is the one many speculated: an armada, yes. An invading force that aims to destroy the Traveler, yes. A singular entity that is not the Winnower but rather carries out its will, yes. It being a corrupting force to entice us, yes. Darkness does not corrupt us, it was most likely the Witness’s whispers during season of Arrivals that corrupted Guardians. Many theories by other characters have been proven true, they were all correct. But they may have all been wrong about the Witness’s goal: it’s not to simply destroy us and kill us all in a flurry of carnage and annihilation. But rather to convert many, and kill off those few that defy it. Taking our worlds to possibly transform them into a simpler “shape”.

      I assume the final shape to basically be less complex than that of civilization and harmony between civilizations, simply the strong survive while the weak die out or serve the strong. It would make sense if that happened all the time, everything just falling in line under one banner, over and over again, causing the Gardener to become bored with that, and causing them to want to promote something else. If that's the end goal, then you can certainly call that a shape, because it's an ending that fits in the mold of what happened prior.

    With the reference at the end of the campaign to the Traveler's "Heart" I believe that wasn't the traveler speaking: rather, similar to how the black fleet has its solitary Witness, I think there is an entity at the center of the Traveler who determines who gets the light through a strict set of requirements ( Bravery - Devotion - Sacrifice - Death.) One of the major reveals of Light Fall I would guess is going to be the discovery of who or what is at the heart of the Traveler. And whoever they are, they seem to finally be awake.

  • @misterpomelo5163
    @misterpomelo5163 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Excellent video as always Byf! I read the Imperious Sun's lore-tab as a sort of narration to a disection; certain lines point to Rhulk essentially vivisecting the ghost in question. When the ghost says "don't remove that, I like the expressiveness it lends me", it could be in reference to the ghosts ignorance but I personally interpreted it as Rhulk removing the ghost's shell, exposing it's inner workings. This seems to make more sense, as ghosts seem to share a certain inherent curiosity to explore and learn; desiring to remain ignorant doesn't seem like something a ghost would choose. Furthermore, the ghost seems physically restrained by repeating its desire to leave, rather than actually physically leaving. Rhulk also refers to the ghost as a "Leviathan under glass", giving an analogy towards a lab specimen pinned under a microscope slide. This also makes me think that when Rhulk discusses the "filament of light", he is talking about an actual physical filament within the ghost which he then tries to forcibly take, leading to the intervention of the Traveler. Very interesting stuff! I'm very glad you decided to cover this!

    • @shadows_star

    I personally do think the Traveler, or some entity tied to it (potentially the Gardener?), spoke to Rhulk through the Ghost, the syntax in the text, as well as Rhulk being blinded by a bright light, implies that direct connection. Rhulk also has a line that is bound to be overlooked, but is still interesting: "What of the past remains when all is wiped away? Only the gaps." That line can be applied to the situation Mars is in, the gaps of the past being present through the temporal anomalies. In fact, I'd reckon it's possible that Rhulk's lines where he kind of rambles to the Ghost, before talking to it directly, could all have some hidden significance in regards to other parts of the story. Don't take my word for it, just an idea

    I think a full lore raid like you did with last wish and garden would be really cool, like breaking down any lore and questions with a team while you do the raid

    I’d like to think it’s the Traveler. Mainly because we haven’t heard anything that direct in a long time. Only makes sense to me that it would be the traveler. Stakes are being raised so it’s safe to think that the traveler would speak out in such a way. And yes please give us a big video on the raid! I stay looking forward to your videos every single day! 🤙🏼
