Thanks, the last part made me understand how to better play with “match and move” transition. And yes, having videos with you guiding through the creation of a specific content in Canva is always a good way to learn how to improve our skills, especially when we don’t use the tool every day. I still remember you creating the IG carousel which helped me a lot in beginning to use Canva.

    OK Natalia, here we go:
    1. I like your idea of practicing. If not already included, I suggest you have exercises as part of your upcoming course. A universal rule may be that we all learn better by doing rather than only watching. Doing takes it to another level in everybody's mind. I have been going into Canva creating blank pages/scenes, calling them test 1 or practice, placing just text, or playing with images, or both, and selecting different animations, changing timing, and adding transitions.
I have wanted to see how everything acts. I have wanted to become familiar with all of the different animations and transitions. I guess you could say my first objective is to know all of the options that are out there.
Now, I think it becomes a different question as to where or how to start a new design. If you have ideas in your mind visually, do you still find it better to sketch them out on paper first, or try to go to the computer? I suppose the answer may vary by person and by experience level. And as a new Canva user, it is hard to have an idea in your mind that you would like to execute, and then when you get on Canva with a blank screen, try to actualize that idea.
    2. Looking at your channel, it appears you also use Cap Cut. I am not familiar with it, but from doing a search, I understand it is another video editor. Are your YT videos done with a combination or Canva alone? In particular, in this video at the :20 second mark, how do you slide your video over, and add the slight gradient background at the right? The text you add on the background is done with a consistent animation and element timing, but I cannot figure out how to do the former part. It is an effect I would like to have in my arsenal.
    3. The best part of any of your videos is when you go beyond the surface explanation of how something works and get into and show a creative application of what and how you can use a feature or element. In this video, a great example of that is your search of green screen backgrounds, but with the purpose of plucking out a piece from it like the 'Subscribe' button.
    4. Borrowing from another video, your most recent video on the 6 things you must know before you use Canva, I had already gone and starred a number of templates. I am looking to create a variety of different testimonial formats. I wanted to go through the testimonial templates and put the ones I liked into a folder called 'Testimonials'. Seems to make sense so far, right? It would be a lot more efficient to be able to either put a template directly in a folder, or to move a template from the starred folder directly to a named folder. I could only get a template in the Testimonials folder after putting it in the editor. I wrote Canva support. The answer was poor and the result of the person not even understanding what I was trying to do. I would have thought that was something they have already thought of because their offering is full of so many templates. So, is there an efficient way to organize favorite templates into folders? Starred works to an extent until you have more than 1 template category type for which you would want to use many different templates.
    5. Along those lines, I think having a page in front of and a page behind a testimonial makes the whole thing more effective. It can tell more of a story. So, I want to find and match a front page and back page template to a testimonial template. Any suggestions? I am thinking of going back to the testimonial templates I like and looking up their keywords, i.e., style and so forth and look for matching styles for the front and back page. Any ideas for search terms for these templates? I looked up Thank you. I may be wrong, but the style between pages should match and not clash.
Perhaps I should have sent this in an email. But if there are any other subscribers that read all of this, do you either have any ideas here or was this helpful to you too?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    • @NataliaKalinska
      @NataliaKalinska  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Scott, thank you for your detailed comment! I’ll try to address all the points for you:
      1. Practicing is absolutely key and I strongly believe that we learn the most through action. I intend to include practical assignments for the course so that the skills you gain are being developed and tested as you follow along. I’m happy that you’re already experimenting with new designs and all the features. Ultimately, that’s how you get comfortable with a tool and your creativity gets unlocked. In terms of starting a new design, I’m usually going to the editor straight away so I don’t necessarily need to sketch it out beforehand but I know a lot of people do prefer it. I think it comes down to workflows and different creative personalities. I also believe that with more practice and experience, it’s easier to just bring your ideas to life without having another vector to actualize it. We’re having a full circle moment here… the more you practice, the easier is to translate your vision into a design 😊
      2. Yes, I use CapCut for some of my short form video content. I feel like the app has everything I need when I want to create something quickly and on the go, using my phone only. I very (very!) rarely use Canva for my videos and if I do, it’s usually for experimentation, fun animated projects or simple short videos like this one: instagram.com/p/Ct9OdRyJaRY/. Not saying that there’s anything wrong with it, but as someone who learned editing on traditional software, I’m used to some functionalities that Canva simply lacks for now. I use DaVinci Resolve for my long form video content (TH-cam videos, commercial projects, course work) and Descript (repurposing into short form, more elaborate Reels/TikToks etc.). The animation around 0:20 was done in DaVinci. It’s a video gradient I created in Canva with a green background I removed. I then added text and animated it via keyframes in DaVinci. It can be done with Canva but it’s a little bit clumsier. Here’s a template I created for you which shows how it’s done: natalia.link/video-points-animation-canva. Forgive me if it’s glitchy, I put it together in 5 minutes! Just because of how Canva works especially when using transitions with one continuous video, I would probably just create the overlay animation with all the text there on a green background, download it as MP4 and then reupload to use on top of a video in Canva. It’s very hard to explain all of it in a text form, but hopefully you understand what I mean 😊
      3. This has always been my goal so I’m glad it translates. Thank you so much!
      4. In terms of our Starred items, it’s unfortunately not possible to organize them into folders for now. That being said, this feature has been requested many many times and I believe the Canva team have it on their radar. Fingers crossed that we get it soon! One workaround would be to actually open these templates so that they become projects in your Canva account and then organize them into folders within folders. It’s possible when you’re a Pro user. These could work almost like your master templates or you could save them as brand templates too.
      5. Telling a story vs just sharing a testimonial will always be a more engaging way of showing social proof. To find similar style of templates, you can use keywords as you mention, or you could simply check out the creator of this template. Chances are, they have more templates in the same style since designers often develop a specific aesthetic. Over time, once you get more comfortable creating designs from scratch, you could come up with your own “version” of the original template to build on.
I don’t always have the time to reply to longer comments but I think you’ve asked many very interesting questions and I’m glad you opted for a comment rather than an email. This way, someone else might benefit from it and I’m all about community here. So thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and asking openly!
      All the best,
      Natalia

As I’m not a legal representative, please take a look at Canva’s own licensing policy here: www.canva.com/policies/content-license-agreement/. It’s all explained from point 5 onwards. In general, you can use the images/templates on your TH-cam channel. Of course, there are free and Pro elements in the library. Depending on the type of account you have, you may need to purchase elements or have Canva Pro to access the Pro elements.
