I often wonder what music J S Bach would do today especially with MOOG Synthesizers and all the technology we have ... I bet he would be in his element
zedster911 If Johann Sebastian Bach lived today, he’d probably be like us; Glued to his smartphone watching TH-cam videos all day of other people doing something with their lives. 🎼🙃🎼
i'm here in 2024 and i do have something to say to all you conservative Organ People: As a long time Pianist and Organist and developing Drummer i think this is the coolest thing ever. I would bet a lot of Money that Bach would go just as Nuts over this as i went when i first saw this. After all, he was a Pioneer and experimentalist in his time and to use his Music in this kind of way just seems to make sense
Great perfomance for teaching drumming philosophy. I love that video and keep hearing it. The drum sheets perfectly cover, reflect and supply Bachs brilliant piece of music here IMO. Although an excellent video has been shot here I guess some mistakes were made in mastering the record (drums too loud) and cutting of the video (video beautifully shot but the cuts ruin it for drumming enthusiasts).
TOTALLY FREAKIN AWESOME!!! I’m a devoted organ fan. Just not really a traditionalist when it comes to Bach. I favor the French school of repertoire and improvisation, symphonic transcriptions and theatre organ but I am definitely in the camp where new innovations in arrangements and thinking outside the box when it comes to the organ is perfectly ideal any time of the day. The organ world needs to be saved from itself. Many of the comments in this thread will nitpick this video to death as not being proper, perfect or in keeping with tried and true tradition. Thank god for progressive advocates of the instrument for expanding the scope of the instruments possibilities in its future like Virgil Fox and Cameron Carpenter and others who have championed new uses for the instrument in the face of diehard square traditionalists who think the instrument should definitely remain in the 1700s!
This is one of the finest videos I have ever seen! BRAVO! Not only the musicians but the camera work and editing. I have known of Herr Lutz for years and have watched his masterful recordings of all the Bach cantatas, and here he is having such a great time! And Orlando: you are a spectacular percussionist! The nuances and variety you get out of your drums and cymbals are beyond belief. I am a "traditional" church choir director and organist but enjoy what world-class musicians do to stretch the limits! Thanks so much!
Siete stati davvero grandi...
Bravo Mr. Orlando and Rudolf - thank you so much for such amazing and uncommon J. S. Bachs' Toccata & Fuga D minor performance. Amazing playing and interplaying
Some of you need to hear this on a better system.... Its very interesting. The hall ambiance is captured well on the audio.. The drums are not too loud. They sound gigantic at times.
it like the certain drums don't have definition... .kinda unbalanced. Organ and room were great. Performace was great too. Just not a fan of the kits overal mix... still a good performace... woulda liked to hear(feel ) more of the pedal 8' or 16' ranks.
Percussion instruments set the tone. Bach's Music is so beautiful and STRONG, that no wonder musicians of all kinds of instruments and even styles would like to express what THEY feel. Surely, Great Musician and Organist wouldn't object that.
but, as an organist seated beneath the pipes - the sound going right out over him, in order to hear the drums and keep perfect synch with them, the drums were tried many ways (and distances) to get it JUST RIGHT for the organist to remain "spot on" the rhythm. It was a duo of instruments, not an accompaniment (drums) and a solo (organ) !!!!
So strange to watch Rudolf Lutz playing the organ in this excellent performance - I've only ever seen him conduct Bachstiftung. Shame the reverb isn't so good for Orlando Ribar's percussion.
I did the same thing, only I used A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, a 500 watt speaker and a drummer with a complete set of drums and synthesizer drums to a slamming disco beat. When we were done, all we got out of the audience was ... dead silence, then one little old lady said, "Oh, my goodness." And, actually, it was for her and her row of friends who, before the service, would natter, and natter, and natter, disturbing everyone around them. Yes, I got yelled at for it, and the front desk on the floor below said they could feel the vibrations of the electronic TPO ... but would I do it, again, if I thought I could get away with it? When the little old ladies think that their nattering is more important than the people around them trying to pray and get ready for the service, yes, I do "unusual things". But there was in the mid 1980s a full version of this done by a rock band. AWESOME!
Who is the stop puller and gong guy? This video is clever - great playing and photography - with a sense of humor thrown in. Love it - almost makes me want to play the pipe organ (again)
i love the drummer's choices here. He knows he's both awesome and hilarious
Thank you 🙏
This is great fun, organ, drummer and a magic carpet: what could one want more?
I often wonder what music J S Bach would do today especially with MOOG Synthesizers and all the technology we have ... I bet he would be in his element

Oh Yeah...
Check out Switched On Bach.
Well tempered sinsizer album
bach è tutto, ANCHE ritmo, e la vita è ritmo! complimenti!
Two MASTERS on two instruments I admire.
I hate pretentiousness.
Marvelous collaboration between two fine artists! Danke Herr Lutz fur sein Kunst!
Extraordinary sound quality ; Thank you ;-)

That s true mister
What a genius performance!! The very best version of this Bach masterpiece. What a masters of organ and percussion!! Perfect synchronization.

I love both organ and drum, Good performance 😉
Even I haven't been visiting church for a while, I can still remember the smell of the air

Masterpiece. Architectonical meta metric beats ...how impressiv, how, would be this in live? Please, we wanna a concert in cologne Dom Kathedral
❤❤❤

Thank you so much for your amazing comment🙏🤓
Really good, always loved Bach's organ music, there is no substitute. It put's you in a trance of warmth and the best music you can hear.

Tolles Zusammenspiel,einfach Klasse,passt
Was ganz anderes, mutig und gelungen. Mir gefällt es sehr gut! 👍
Oh my God... that was f...... awesome 😍🎼🎼 I really needed it today and .. well... just wauw.... 👍👍🎼🎼
Karina Kok-Hansen Thanks you🙏😎

Hi orlandoribar, fantastisch Kirche im heutigen pop sound, danke
Great arrangement! Fabulous! Regal!
Bravo Mr. Orlando and Rudolf - thank you so much for such amazing and uncommon J. S. Bachs' Toccata & Fuga D minor performance. Amazing playing and interplaying
Very nice, guys! The acoustics are great, also!
Space music, Space performers. Great, Great......
SUPER GREAT !
Excelente orquestração, parabéns, adorei.
ordinarily I would not suggest a drummer for this tune, but this guy has it totally together, Bravo
Some of you need to hear this on a better system.... Its very interesting. The hall ambiance is captured well on the audio.. The drums are not too loud. They sound gigantic at times.
I feel the same because I listened to this by earphone. I don't feel the drum overpowering.
it like the certain drums don't have definition... .kinda unbalanced. Organ and room were great. Performace was great too. Just not a fan of the kits overal mix... still a good performace... woulda liked to hear(feel ) more of the pedal 8' or 16' ranks.
Brilliant . Thank you.
Good work all three of you
Oh and hi🙂
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!! they
are geniuses
Bach war metal and gothic, was the god of music. Congrats
Excellent performance, however I do think the drums should supplement the organ not over power it.
The organ should OBLITERATE THE DRUMS! Just kidding! But, they need to be a lot more balance
There should be NO drums
gray3600ful
P
hell on earth: mixing drums and organ inside a church
I think there should be NO drums.

Very good. I´m impressed. Brazil.
I can't decide if I really love this or really hate this. xD
You love it .
@@fluorosco yeah.... I keep coming back to it, and the more I study music the more interesting I find this performance
@@LordQueezle i've banned it from playing it in the car. Im doing 120 before i know it ❤
I love organ, but this was.....different. Thanks for being brave and experimenting.
a nice twist on a great piece of music
Love it. Enjoyed it. Thank you!
Muito bom. Ficou muito bonito.👍
Great version guys. For the ones who enjoy Bach with drums try to listen the Jacques Loussier version it is a MUST listen
so true they killed it with the drums could hear the organ in a lot of places
UNA GENIALIDAD,MARAVILLOSO
The drums are too loud, reduce drum sound level by 30% or so.
Excellent play thou.
I agree.
The empty church has a lot of acoustic reverb. An audience would have dampened it down.
though
but, as an organist seated beneath the pipes - the sound going right out over him, in order to hear the drums and keep perfect synch with them, the drums were tried many ways (and distances) to get it JUST RIGHT for the organist to remain "spot on" the rhythm. Many performers wear headphones
THIS is but one reason for that
Love this!!!
Muhtesem bir performans. Tesekkurler J:B Bach.
I never thought I would be saying this, but I can't hear the organ well enough
Love it. Great arrangement!
Excellent! 😊👍🔝
The drums are not loud enough, I still hear the organ🤷🏻♂️
I think that Bach is smiling- the man had soul, a very cool cat.
Fantastic work , i like it !!!
Fantastic!
Very nice!... i would want have someone to do something like that hahaha.
Excelent piece of art. Could you, please, tell me what is the name of the church and where is located? Thank you.
If you have a good sound system, all the complaints would disappear.
Bach and Roll?
piekne wykonanie, pozdrawiam!!!
J'adore troooop !!!! Super !!!! Merci ;-)
Perfectly done.
Fabulous !
There is old saw that Bach's music can survive any conceivable performance medium. There are, of course, exceptions. This is one of them.
Mükemmel...
Listen on headphones...I thought the drum volume was appropriate...The recording sounded awesome actually! Brilliant job!!
I love headphones. Best listening device for serious listening, but come on. This mix is disgusting. Try on speakers and you will understand.
AWESOME!!!!!!
omg, this is great!!!!!!
Thanks 🙏
Wow, this is the best version of the tune i ve ever heard
"The tune" lol :D. That's even worse than saying that it's a song. It's a (master)piece!
EPIC FOREVER ! :D
Grandios 💞🎹🎶🎼🥁👌
Good job guys.
HalleluYAh!!!
Por la Eternidad ❤
Perfect !!!!!
Bach arose to applause!🤗
Wonderful!!!

Damn well curated.

superb!
they look and sound like they're having a big ol' time playin' together :)
great
Thanks 🙏
Who is the stop puller and gong guy? This video is clever - great playing and photography - with a sense of humor thrown in. Love it - almost makes me want to play the pipe organ (again)
Masterfully played on the organ. A big ego-trip for the drummer.
Super wykonanie !:)
GEIL!!!
Wow!!!...
Why not add to the drum rhythms as the organ adds voices in the fugue? Seems a missed opportunity and for that reason, it’s a no from me!
More bass on the organ. Besides that, it was AWESOME.
I wondered what his job was...gong😀
Klasse!!!
Echt der Wahnsinn
