  • In this video, Kevin unloads his fully geared-up bike and explains the 'what' and 'why' of everything he takes bikepacking. Some items may surprise you. Watch this video to learn about everything he carries and get ideas for your next trip! ... AND Don't forget a tire pump, or CO2 inflator! even though Kevin MAY have forgotten to mention it.
    Kevin Frias is an avid cyclist, bikepacker and content creator who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kevin spends a great deal of his time getting out on two wheels, exploring, pushing his own limits, and making it easier for others to do the same.
    In his words, "My name is Kevin and I am passionate about sharing the outdoors with others! Currently, I execute that by going on adventures and sharing it on Instagram (@kevdoesinsta) and TH-cam (KevDoes). I want to energize people, especially people of color, to get outside and live their best life. I was born in the Bronx, NY and never knew about the life-changing force that you get from being outside so now I want to share that with everyone, and make the face of the outdoors a few shades darker."

    I added a Helinox Chair Zero to my bike touring set-up this April: where has this been all my life!? Its fantastic! Have definitely done the peanut butter thing too: I feel like I have found my people.
    Where do you stand on old-school bike touring (as in panniers and more emphasis on visiting some sites)? Do you see that as a different thing from bikepacking (or just an old fasioned word for the same thing)?
    Great video; ride safe. :-)

    • @KevDoes
      @KevDoes ปีที่แล้ว

      Im telling you - the chair is a game changer haha and for one pound?!?! Def worth the weight!
      I don't have a stance on old-school bike touring really. I still see it as adventuring by bike - I just usually associate it more with paved roads vs gravel, but I have got nothing against it! Especially if that's the gear you have, or the type of riding you like to do! I

    Time to shave the skull, my friend! Combing everything forward doesn't mask the sparsity, unfortunately :'( it just makes it more noticeable. Shave - you've got a perfect skull :) you'll take more time to get used to it than us, believe me.

    Dumb question: why carry a patch kit when you have a tubeless setup and repair kit specifically for that? Ok, site, the tube patch kit is tiny and weight little, bit it's still taking up some of your very limited space.

    • @jasonlohr-johnson5940
      @jasonlohr-johnson5940 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a dumb question, great question. It’s like a last resort. Fix the tubeless tire, if that doesn’t work or fails again, you may need to put in a tube, if that gets a hole, you can patch that… it’s tiny light weight back up. #reiemployee

    • @KevDoes
      @KevDoes ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah its a great question Rachel! It is the backup for my backup :) The tires are essential for me to keep moving, and since the patch kit takes up such little space its nice to have.
      ALSO it works to patch some other things - I forgot my sleeping pad patch kit once and my sleeping pad got a hole in it and guess what came to the rescue!
