Great review. I'm in the same boat, played all the games and have most of the media (I haven't seen the film however!).
I agree with most of this but there's few minor points I disagree with. Personal taste mainly. I enjoyed picking the backgrounds but wish we had a flash back mission or something with them. I will say, however, the lack of grey morality and the ending slides were a huge disappointment. I played an aggressive Rook and I really wanted to have a "whatever it takes" good guy who was very focussed on the mission and who's diplomacy was 'punch to face' but when he automatically came out with cringy jokey dialogue it really broke my immersion. I wish the game took in mind what you picked (like how Hawke's personality played out). I do prefer Rook over the Inquisitor but I agree, nowhere near Hawke or the Warden. He was also really cute with Harding.
There were parts of the game I enjoyed, and I don't regret playing it but I felt pretty eh after it. I did enjoy the gameplay and it was the first one where I actually enjoyed playing a Warrior. I chose Minrathous, I stick by my choice haha. So I have more to say about the shadow dragons than the crows. Neve however, she is my least favourite for the same reasons you have.
I hope if there is another dragon age game, they listen to the complaints and work on it. Especially the writing and environments.

Haha, the film was definitely a 'watch with friends and laugh'-it's basically a Cassandra prequel, which was cool to see anyway!
Oh for sure, a flashback mission where you get to choose how the game plays out - like the origins background missions would have made them so much more impactful. I'm glad I wasn't the only one disappointed by the ending slides, I usually love hearing a little about all the characters, but it felt like such a last-minute add-on!
For sure, the Hawke personality feature was such a good way of adding not just replayability but making a pre-created character really feel like your own. My friends and I played DAII simultaneously and made similar choices, yet they still felt different. Whereas upon replaying Veilguard - Rook will always just be Rook, which feels like a wasted opportunity.
Haha, I standby; the romances are well done, Harding was definitely a close second for me, but I just needed more I would have loved seeing some dates or exclusive moments more like previous games.
That feeling was precisely how I felt, it took me a few days to work out my feelings on it completely. The gameplay was by far the best out of the Dragon Ages, and that's impressive from them, I've seen some say it isn't fun, but compared to Origins or Inquisition, for me, this was night and day.
I would love to know your thought process behind Minrathous! No judgement here! How were the Shadow Dragons? Did you have enough extra dialogue, and did they have a good plotline?
I hope so, too. They definitely took steps with Veilguard, but it's still a long road to walk, in my opinion. Though it did still feel great being back in Thedas after all these years.
Thank you so much for watching the review and sharing your thoughts, I'm so glad to hear you had a great time with it :)
