I’m a Muslim and for him to subsidized Hajj is wrong Allaah doesn’t make hajj compulsory on ppl if you don’t have the money. It’s clearly stated that it’s only compulsory on a Muslim if he meet every conditions to go there which one of it is money so who sent him to subsidized hajj.

God bless you Seun for raising the issue of poor productivity, particularly in the energy and power sectors. Before you raised the question your guest appeared to focus more on cosumption and subsidy as if the law of supply and demand is no longer relevant in economic analysis. Our economy is heavily import dependent and that is largely responsible for the high inflation and foreign exchange rates. The government should be responsible enough to tell the nation why our four dilapidated refineries and over thirty power plants cannot be reactivated, at least to produce for local consumption. Incompetence and corrupt practices like frivolous spending and conspicuous consuption appear to be the bane of the Nigeria economy.

Citizens are the problem of Nigeria. Instead of all and sundry to condemn in entirety the pilgrimage subsidy, those beneficiaries won't talk.
Such act fuels government to steal more because they have given a few money, and they can now steal more for themselves.

Total Govt paid or subsidized personal faith trips could build replicas of the spiritual /tourism destinations in Sambisa for both adopted religions. The issue for the Muslim faith is that Hajj is the last Pillar and is encouraged once in a lifetime only if one can afford it.

Religion bigots. The transportation fares paid by the federal government is not the same as 90 billion naira subsidy paid for private citizen to go on private tour. Use your commonsense, if you’ve one. By the way, it’s not “transportation fees”, it is called transportation fares…simple english

Nigerians by all means want to always talk about the current administration. The subsidy for Hajj is not a new policy in Nigeria and for many years the policy was never debated or any motion moved either or the national and state level. I would think this subsidy which annually should have been reviewed in the 2024 budget both at the Federal and State levels. It appears this was never done. Now that the president wanted to follow the tradition, it is now that it has become a big deal; for the opposition party and Nigerians. It is sad to see that the former Vice President who himself is a Muslim and follow the tradition while he was the Vice President has issues with the move made by the president. The policy of support pilgrimages whether Muslim or Christian should never have been in place to begin with. Nigerians who were against the Muslim Muslim ticket are fully awake to make noise about the presidents move whereas the Christian president the country have had maintained the same tradition. If Nigeria want to have peace they must stop bringing religion into every situation. It is true as remarked by the guest pilgrimages should be a matter of individual choice and affordability but you cannot change the rules at the middle of the game. The affordability of the subsidy for the Hajj should have been discussed when the 2024 budget was being discussed. There is no doubt that if the president had announced since he took office that the subsidy for the Hajj is stopped, Nigerians would have eaten him raw. Criticism and blame can never bring peace and harmony, Those kicking against the president's effort should not forget that an entire section of the country who are Muslims will be critical and sensitive to comments concerning this subsidy for the Hajj.

We live in a dynamic world and policy directions can change as the need arises. The present economic downturn suggests that government suspends subsidy for pilgrimages either for Christians or Muslims until things improve. The 90 billion naira can be used to reactivate some of the thirty three ( 33) dilapidated power plants scattered all over the country or one of the four refineries. Pilgrimage can be sponsored by individuals for based on affordability. It makes economic sense. This is not the time for religious sentiments.
