It didn’t sit with me either. It was Trump’s way, his “code” for saying, “Go back to Mexico.” He made that perfectly clear, no matter how sly he thought he was covering it up. You could hear the utter contempt in his voice and see the look of loathing on his face.

I was born in Dubuque. My parents were Cuban refugees and their sponsor was a Mexican American business man from Dubuque. Ramos needs to understand the alt right was created by excessive immigration and what at times has been the nasty attitudes against white anglo people by certain segments of the Chicano activists and by he and the Spanish media.

5:24 Really, Mansbridge? You act like neither you nor any other Canadian journalist has ever made a longwinded intro before finally getting down to asking the main question. Did you not watch the video clip of how Ramos was prematurely SHUT DOWN by Trump's security men before he got to ask his questions? As an immigrant from Mexico who became a U.S. citizen, Ramos is in the perfect position to know facts on the subject of immigration and research how Trump's policy would affect fellow Mexicans residing in the States.
Drawing from one's own experience for story ideas or for motivation to investigate is considered an unfair "bias"? How does Ramos' approach differ from a reporter who documents his/her journey into, let's say, cancer treatment (as it was in the case of the late Mark Dailey of CityTV)? As an employee of CBC, don't you have a mandate to report the news from a uniquely "Canadian perspective" (which, in itself, is biased)? How is providing facts and holding authorities accountable deemed unethical for journalists (whether the subject matter is dear to their heart or not)? Ramos is doing his job with professional diligence yet you're needling him for his personal passion on the topic? I thought that was petty. He was courageous enough to tackle Trump's inflammatory comments on Mexicans and revealed in the process how Trump bullies any opposition. Ramos saw the danger signs and he immediately challenged Trump A FULL YEAR before mainstream media took the possibility of a Trump presidency seriously. Perhaps you and other media critics could learn from such fearlessness and create more effective reporting that engages the public. Trump is a political candidate who is spreading outright lies and journalists should be the first ones to confront him with facts, not simply observe him like an exotic zoo animal.

As Mr. Ramos said, television doesn't just happen, it is produced, and one good example of that is Mr. Ramos himself. First he was employed by the former owners of Univision who were mostly the exiled, anti-Castro Cubans of Miami (people with a lot of money). This people were very right wing sympathizers of some of the most brutal Latin American dictatorships. They were responsible for most of the mass migrations to the US. Of course, this self proclaimed champion of the immigrants never said anything about that. He likes to please his bosses. Now, Univision is in the hands of Haim Saban, a wealthy Jewish media owner and one of the most prolific donors to the Clinton's political enterprise; so, Mr. Ramos is doing his new boss' s bid.
Thank you Stephen Colbert for having this man on your show so that I may now see him as one of the greatest reporters of our time. I wish more journalists nowadays had his viewpoint. Journalists and reporters have a duty to the people to give an unbiased view of the news but they have the right as individuals to express themselves and care about the country in their own way. They have the right to ask those questions that we, the people, would not be able to ask for lack of opportunity and voice! This man is amazing!

Jorge Ramos is not a reporter he is an activist. He said he was there to ask Trump some questions but he didn't ask any questions. He interrupted to make STATEMENTS, not ask questions and you want to call this biased lying activist a great reporter.

Jorge Ramos was using a method of obtaining answers in which the questioner first provides the facts and clarifications so that the response given by the subject in question may be as precise and on point as possible. It is to prevent the person(s) from making false remarks or speaking in roundabout ways. Basically, they were statements leading up to the question.

Now that I've explained that, I want to clarify that Ramos did not create a scene, nor was he protesting a social cause (i.e def. of an activist). What I saw was a person standing up for their right to question, and when he was denied that right, he began to ask nevertheless. Why do you think he was invited back into the room after being so rudely thrown out? Because he was not in the wrong.

Illegal immigrants put billions of dollars into your social security program every year that they will never benefit from. Almost a 1/4 of what is now the U.S use too be Mexico so you don't know if that's where their families were from, at on point or another. I think the interviewer missed Jorge Ramos's intentions about the statement of building a wall. The interviewer's example of China having been able to build a large wall was a correct response. Yes. China did build the Great Wall of China, which is much larger than the proposed wall between the US and Mexico. However, I think Jorge was talking about the effectiveness of the wall, to serve its intentions of preventing people from crossing it. Just as the Great Wall of China did not prevent the Mongol invasions, the proposed wall between Mexico and the US will be just as ineffective. Jorge's argument was that building a wall that is costly and ineffective is a terrible idea, so why do it?

The efficacy of the Berlin Wall was due to the fact that people who made attempts were imprisoned or executed. Sure, a small number of people were able to cross the Berlin Wall. However, it is an effective deterrent when people are shot for trying.
No idea wtf is going on here with these comments. Jorge Ramos just walked in there and started making statements without waiting his turn. He wasn't even asking questions, he was making statements. That doesn't make him a hero in the slightest. There's an entire room full of other journalists waiting to ask their questions. It's not just him. If it was me he would have been kicked out and NOT invited back. He would have made that flight for nothing. And I also didn't like when he says "if we don't say that, as journalists, who's gonna say that?" I am a Mexican very proud of practicing and sharing the good cultural values of my beloved birth country and Im against the bad practices of our governmente and Criminal groups in it, but as a U.S resident I am very greatful I had the oportunity to be embraced by this country and its very tolerant people when for critical financial and economic reasons I was forced to leave my land, Here I have learned to respect the laws and to fill protected by them and to live a life in order, but many people in here does not understand that being an inmigrant from Mexico does not make us Criminals as Donald said and generalized it in the begining, we are obviously a different culture, many of us less prepared, educated or knowledgeable about laws since mostbof us were not thought how to follow strict public rules since we were born, but we can be respectful, responsible, loving and very very hard working wherever we go, and as I am against Trump's racist remarks I am also against a wrong representation for us from any one who would not speak respectfuly and proffesionaly as Jorge Ramos did at that conference in which jorge trying to confront Donald was disrespectful to the rest of the reporters whom were waiting for their turn to speak and make their questions, he deliberatly tried to go ahead of everyone in the room and that is not fair nor profesional anywhere. He needs to show more class and proffesionalism to represent us and not to make things worse for us specially when facing people like Donald Trump whos attitude is that of an extremely arrogant person. It's been so long since this happened, I'd forgotten about Jorge Ramos. I feel like this was the point reporters finally started treating Trump like a real candidate rather than a side show. It seems Ramos had to make a scene because Trump wasn't calling on him. Journalists used to be known in the US as the fourth branch of government because they are supposed to function as another check on power. In this case, reporters were treating Trump like an entertainer. Trump, in turn, was able to "produce" his news conferences. The fact is, anyone who could take over the presidency needs to be ready with more than sound bites. Trump needed to explain how he was going to accomplish what he claimed. Both his fans and detractors should be interested in those details. What Ramos ended up showing is something we all know well now, that Trump is easily baited and has little to no substance to his plans.

Many of people I know from Latin America has enough respect to contain themselves and not yell out whenever the things don't go on his/her way.
Mr. Ramos, it is a touchy situation as far as the best way for a journalist to handle this situation, but I agree with your point when you ask if journalists do not ask these questions, who will? I also think that we all know how influential the media is on the American public, and for people to sit back and NOT ask questions in the end is irresponsible just given that fact. I'm proud of you. There may have been a better way to do it..or not. I do not know, but thank you for making your points, and you're right! Later in the campaign, others have done so also. The truth is that Donald Trump is an extremely dangerous person, and he should never be President of the United States. I shudder to even imagine the outcome of that. I'm glad that you and others in your field have shown him to be what he is, so that less educated Americans can make a more informed choice in this election. A person does not have to be a big Hillary fan. They simply need to choose the candidate that is most appropriate for the office, and that should be a no-brainer, but it's not here. Canada and CBC should of been a bit more careful not to fall on the wrong side of this. The CBC anchor tries to be fair but I'd argue his dialogue was poor and typically uninspired / boring and even arguably conservative. That seems unfitting for Canada observing Trump.
