@@UberManTampa I use PayPal or the Shopify app to take payments at markets and not one single person has ever said anything. Almost everyone is well versed with apps for taking credit cards now. I don’t think anyone at a market is telling people to just Venomo, PayPal, cash, me.
I would highly, highly recommend either investing in tent weights or making your own. I have seen numerous occasions where a market takes place on a windy day and someone who didn't properly secure their tent down found it blowing across the parking lot/park and into someone else's merchandise. It's never a fun thing to witness, and I always find myself hoping, for their sake, that they have insurance. The weights can be purchased on Amazon or anywhere camping supplies are sold. Do yourself the favor.
I subscribed to this channel for 3 reasons: 1. Keeping it basic; 2. Not trying to teach us every. single. little. detail. It's not overwhelming; 3. Easy to understand yet still very informative. So MANY other channels try to over complicate it to give it a "professional" feel...uh, no. Guys, listen to how Standley Handcrafted is doing it; he's got it right, he's keeping it stupid simple without trying to overwhelm us with everything he knows with an hour long or longer videos. Great videos!
Don’t forget proof of insurance! Many more professional or long running markets require proof that you carry insurance that covers both your products and lists the organization running the market or craft fair as being covered in event, say, that your tent blows over and damages a person, car or another vendor! (Your insurance co can give you separate certificates for each event)
absolutely love this, I wanna put this in my group, a lot of my students are getting ready to sell all their creations they made at markets. Thank you Jeff!
Thanks! I do many Farmers Market and you're so correct, most of the Farmer's market where I vendor at will only take one vendor making the same products. Awesome information for sure! ML!
Over the pond here - Booked our first farmers market but not for a few months so plan to start on planning how to present our goods so it look inviting , love your tips and await your video on making the steps etc for there table ( UK )
I would really like to see the video on making the racks for candles. I really like the idea of making the things myself, sometime this weekend I hope to make my presto pot.
Love the idea of keeping your money with you in a apron. I tend to be all over the place. I would add bring a card reader if you can. Most of my sales are made with cards.
I have seen a few vendors use portable coolers without any ice for their lower melting point candles/waxes but I don't know how needed it actually was. Maybe just try to stay away from the low melting point ones on hot days
Great video once again. So much work to do let's get it done. Markets can b very technical... I'm heading a moment, not kitty whr is the cat Yes large signs for ur products...
I want to know why farmer markets cost so much. Around here (AZ) it's between $60.00-$350.00. Sometimes $550. For 2 days and that is outside most of them. It's not cheap. And most of the time the spaces are to small for our 10x10 canopy. Sometimes we have to pay for 2 spaces. Needless to say, we don't do a lot of markets around here.
Southphxgirl Nava Where I use to live Farmers Markets had outrages fees for setting up however I came up w a great idea (it worked for me but may not work for others) what I did was talked to small local businesses next to the Farmers Market within walking distance n we drew up a contract allowing me to set up my tent n etc on their property (usually in the front or side closest to the rd) I paid them a small fee (usually $50 a day sometimes less n sometimes I gav them a cpl free products I was selling) it was a great way to sale my products w/o going through the Farmer Market registration process n high fees or if I couldn’t get in period!!!! No one ever said anything to me about doing it that way!!!!! In fact the small town I live in now the Farmer Market is in middle of town n businesses around it allows tents to b set up or they will set them up on their property selling stuff!!!!
Thank you so much for your advice. It has helped me so much. I made the mistake of buying a lot of product for soap making and i just started buying stuff for candles and let me tell you that I went into it head first. Then i ended up in the hospital because one of my kidneys. I'm doing better but i feel like I lost my creativity. I am going to try and find if there is any farmers market around here. Unfortunately I live in the city
Hello, you mentioned providing some information for racks to display candles. Would you have some links or pictures of samples that my husband would be able to build for us? Thank you
Very good information. Is this how you got your business known to the public??? is by doing markets? Here in very humid, and hot FL I'm not able to do markets, and with the virus there aren't many inside markets which I'm not able to wear a mask for any length of time due to very bad asthma. Do you know of another way to reach out to people? TY
When you said, "you want your booth to look like you have a ton of stuff, not clutter." If I'm only selling candles, can you define "a ton of stuff?" Like, a lot of different candles, or items other than candles? Thanks.
I think it really just comes down to good organization if you have a couple different candles styles, make sure they’re all together and on some kind of rack so they look good. I’ve seen tables that have 100 products that look amazing and I’ve seen some tables that have 30 products and it looks like they’re just thrown everywhere
Most people bring cash but not enough so they are only able to buy with cards after visiting a few booths. It is a BIG draw in for a lot of people if they can just pay with a card so i would recommend having a sign that says you accept cards
What do you recommend for product preservation? I will be selling in Florida and the winters are still killer. Any advise on how to keep them from softening? (Some of my vessels will be tin)
Thank you very much for your information Standley 👍🏻. Btw may i ask where can i get the license that you said? In the City Hall? Thank you and hope you have a wonderful day
I just got into my first farmers market. Its very small country market in NC. I'm doing 2 sizes of mason jar candles. Do you suggest putting a price on the banner? Like $10 soy wax candles
I’m just looking into these, and this video is so helpful! I never would’ve thought about risers! Great info as always! Is Amazon the best place to find tents? Thanks!
Hi there! I wonder if you can answer this question. When making candles a couple of times my wax hasn't filled the entire jar when it seemed to at first pour. Do you know why this happens?
It’s only June amd my candles are already melting and RUINING at my farmers markets... it’s only going to get SO much hotter.. and I use a canopy with shade wall... does this not happen to you??? Do I have to cancel outdoor events?? What do you do about this?
@@StandleyHandcrafted Okay thank you! Do you have any videos on how you package products at a farmers market?! Like how to incorporate branding, but still make it simple?
Jamie Sullivan u can get full black 6-8 foot long table cloths at gordons or joanne fabrics that goes on table and hooks under the legs! I do black because it doesn’t show as much dirt!!!

That messed up you pay them $25-30 for enter fee and pay them again for % of yours sales.. Thats robbery they taking double payments from you how are going make money if have to pay them an % of yours sales...
As far as change: BRING MORE $5 BILLS THAN YOU THINK YOU WILL NEED! In my experience, they are the best bills for making change because in most cases, being able to give them a $5 is ideal rather than giving them a bunch of $1s and you dont have to deal with the awkward situation I have seen some vendors in where you have to ask the customer for change because you only had $10s and $20s left (obviously looks unprofessional and is uncomfortable for all parties involved)
Farmer's market is too political. In my local farmer's market same vendors for 20 years. No new vendors. Why should anyone goes to something with limited vendors when they themselves can't participate as vendors.
Maybe that's something you should definitely discuss with your city council. Everyone is welcomed to voice their opinions, ideas, concern at their local City Hall. All you need to do is find out when is the next one and get on the agenda and go before council and mayor. Prepare a good argument and be professional.
I forgot to talk about card readers. Square and Paypal are two great options for taking cards with small fee's attached.
Standley Handcrafted Love PayPal and Venmo- made $100 in one hour last night 🙌🏻
Stanley I live in NYC the pandemic is serious here. How else other then farmers markets can I push my candles?
Square is expensive. They're still good for beginners, but as soon as I can I'm gonna get a business account at a bank.

What do you recommend for storing/protecting your wax products in the heat during farmers market seasons. Protecting wax from melting?
Been my concern as well. I know a lot of folks avoid outdoor events in the Spring/Summer because of this reason, but there's gotta be a way..:)
