    Anyone who is thinking to do this...You MUST drill out both exhaust pipes. If you don't drill out both pipes, it can cause damage to the motor. There is a lot of misinformation about the top pipe being a fake pipe; however, that is NOT TRUE. Only the chromed section of the pipe, leading to the back cylinder, is fake. The back cylinder still leads into the top pipe, through the black tank, located under the motorcycle. If you put your hand at the back of the "fake" pipe, you can feel exhaust coming out. In summary, the top "fake" pipe is not fake at all. It is a real functioning pipe, and it needs to be drilled out, just like the bottom one.

      I would second what you stated as you have it right on. As added note along with that if you remove the baffles you will LOSE power due to lack of back pressure and no amount of rejetting will correct it, this can lead to cooking your valves...think $$. I believe someone else on a budget bobber (Iridetas.com) build found that drilling 4 11 mm holes in the each pipe caused a loss in power (great sound though) and ended out installing lollipops in each pipe to add some controlled back pressure and at the same time changed the pilot jet from the stock 17.5 to a 20 and the main from 110 to 115, I would also recommend dropping the E ring on the needle one notch or if you have the spacers adding one more spacer to raise the needle up and richen the mixture a tad at midrange., just my 2 cents worth as it worked for me on my last 2002 XV250

      Opps forgot to mention I had also added a K&N air filter to it and bypassed my Calif air injection (I live in Ca and we have different emmission laws that are a royal pain!

    Helpful video. I now know I'm gonna keep it stock if I decide to go with a V 250.

    I'm thinking of doing this. Did you do it to both pipes or just the lower pipe?

    to get the best sound you're better off taking the baffles out if not you need to grillz the same amount of holes in both pipes otherwise it will be invalid and don't worry about your engine overheating the only way your engine will overheat is if you take the baffles out and don't reget your carbs what you're doing won't harm your engine

    Sounds exactly the same at idle to me... next time you should get someone to help you rev it a bit.

    So did you have to rejet the carb? after you drill? Just got a 2005 and want a little more sound.

    Someone told me this would make my bike slightly faster... is this true?

      @skuxxskits 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kind of, it will slightly increase your horse power and torque.

      only marginally and on carburated bikes where you can compensate for higher flow with an adjustment towards the richer side of the mixture. anyway smaller bikes with loud exhausts are hideous imo.

    1:52 for sound

  • @MJDeder
    @MJDeder 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    if you put four holes on the top you need to put four holes on the bottom pipe also and to be honest you're best off taking the baffels out to get the right sound take your bath towels completely out then you will have to do a car bridge eyesman everything because it will overheat the way you're doing it right now you don't have to worry about that engine overheating

    You should drill both pipes. Now you have an exhaust imbalance, even with the crossover pipe.

    Stock sounded better. Drilled sounds like an old leaky exhaust.

    2nd pipe is fake

    • @geekrelic7400

      No it is not, put your hand behind it and you can feel the exhaust. The chrome pipe that appears to come from the rear cylinder is fake (stays cold when running, check it out) but right behind it the actual exhaust from the rear cylinder connects into that top pipe (it snakes down under the bike next the frame and back up behind chrome pip next to the frame).
      If you drill out both exhausts, or simply remove the baffles you you will lose power as you will have nearly no back pressure and this engine needs it to run correctly. Suggest removing the baffles with a hole saw (I used a 1 3/4 inch and installing some 1 1/2 inch lollipops (aprox 60% dia of exhaust outlet works out on most bikes). Know this cause I went through it on two Virago 250 in our family. Go up one size on idle from 17.5 to 20 jet and main from the 110 to a 115 or even a 120 and add a extra nylon spacer to your needle to raise it up a notch for midrange. Will sound good and you will not run lean as these bikes are set very very lean from the factory. oh yes, yes it will give you a little extra HP but not a lot, just has that nice" Potato-Potato" sound to it.
