Hey! My next Drum Hub group is starting soon featuring Dorothea Taylor! If you want to study 1-on-1 with me check it out at www.dimitrifantinidrums.com/drumhub
But first remember vinnie once said all drummers should just play a nice solid simple groove and get so in touch with it, so into it, so moved by it that its all they want to play. Words of wisdom from a true master.
This advice is for BEGINNERS WHO WANT TO JUMP WAY AHEAD.....Vinnie is admonishing students of drumming to first learn the basics with good TIME TIME TIME TIME....TIME BEING MOST IMPORTANT.......BUT THEN, to develop and STRETCH YOURSELF TO THE LIMIT, AS VINNIE DID......DO NOT USE YOUR PERCEIVED advise to just play a groove.....WHERE WOULD VINNIE BE HAD HE JUST DEVELOPED AS A GROOVE PLAYER???????????????? We would not have all the great recordings AND BOOTS that show his genius !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@toseedyou I'm just interpreting his words as more of a cosmic view. His advice isn't just for beginners. If you don't get that it's cool. I'll go by Vinnie! Peace.
He blew my mind about 30 years ago in concert. He was one of the first to add lighting effects to his solo.Could have been longer ago.He inspired me to try to learn how to play with double bass.Still trying!Still learning!!!Thank you for your great break down.Stay safe!!!
So amazing a lot of want Vinnie do is take diffrent basic rudiments and mix them with diffrent odd groupings. Crazy I always loved that part of this drum solo . Thanks for demystifying that one part. That is really were the magic really comes in . Tony Williams is the Drummer that Vinnie really followed his licks and phrasing is all over in his playing. Great lesson
It’s my first time seeing your videos, amazing playing amazing technique, and amazing sound. I’m glad I discovered you. I need to check out some lessons. Great job brother.
hey guys! Got lots of new vids coming here but also I’ve been doing entire free workshops and lesson packs over on my website! You can head here to check ‘em out: www.dimitrifantinidrums.com/
Good explanation of this Sticking. I always thought about it as a group of 4 first (with the flam on the last beat) and then a group of 3. Something you could have mentioned however, is that Vinnie most of the time doesn't use it in 16th notes but in 16h note triplets which is WAY harder. To me at least :D
Another idea another way you could phrase this Pattern is to play the seven notes as a group of septuplets À la Gary Chafee book “Patterns number 1” (time in meter studies)! 7 even notes in the space of 4/16 notes and do that in 4/4 Or four equal groups of sevens in a measure of 44! does that work I don’t see why not
@@DimitriFantini ; Dimitri I think that would be a great idea go for it it shouldn’t be too hard to reconfigure your pattern as septuplets it would be simply four groups of septuplets in a measure of 4/4 using your stickings Flams! I‘d love to see you do it good luck
and funnily enough I have used a sticking same as Vinnie but one shorter (another six note pattern) for years and years- eventually rewatching a Vinnie video my ears kinda picked up on and I realized it was similar to my most overused sticking plus one note haha

That is incredible!!! Wish I could have seen that
Vinnie is the most innovative drummer of our time
You’re not wrong!
He's a true independent thinker too. Amazing person
Love Vinnie...but actually most innovative is Virgil
They'd both probably say someone else. Perhaps Gadd @@daviddicara991

I like to see these addressed as motions because that is what they are.
Could you expand on that?
Thank You 🙏🏼 🥁👍🏼
Sick! Just subbedb
thanks Tom!
Great Channel. Just subbed. One question what Kit are You playing here? Gretsch Catalina? It Sounds Great.
Thank you!! This is a Gretsch Renown maple kit :)
You have or do you offer a transcription of this Phil written out as he plays it??? If you do would be great if you could make it available for sale
that's a great idea but I wanted to stress how many ways Vinnie has used it and how many more ways YOU could explore it yourself!
When you take it to 4/4 it just explodes with creativity and character, so good! Hats off my friend 🔥☝️
Ah it’s so much fun to explore these ideas!
totally cool
Thanks man!!! Appreciate it 👊
This Man (Vinnie C.)found his niche (Playing the Drums).
You could say that!
Bravo😃😃👏👏
Thank you!!
Love it
thank you so much!
Dimitri Fantini hey, do you teach private lessons? I took a lesson with Jonathan Greene recently and he told me I should hit you up!
@@planedefiler I do! Please email me or send me a message on IG, will be happy to chat about it!

You’re forgetting to mention what
Vinnie is playing comes from
The Tony William’s drum vocabulary!!!!
That’s very true! I don’t know that I’ve heard this specific pattern in any Tony Williams recording but if you know of one let me know!
I kinda always thought it was R - l - rL - R - l - l i.e. a 6 note pattern... but slowing it down, it appears that you're right.
and funnily enough I have used a sticking same as Vinnie but one shorter (another six note pattern) for years and years- eventually rewatching a Vinnie video my ears kinda picked up on and I realized it was similar to my most overused sticking plus one note haha
open close technique GORDY KNUDTSON
Gordy does a great job teaching this! I learned the technique from a different teacher a long time ago. Now I feel old lol
City Nights? Holdsworth
I know it well! I’ll look into it :)
⚡⚡⚡🔝
thank you!
Thank you for stopping to tune your tom. 😂
haha you are very welcome!
Why did you say this was Vinnie's "favorite" fill? Maybe it's your favorite but it's misleading click bait to say it is his.
It’s a saying… not really something I’d suggest taking literally. If you watch the video it’s all explained. Hope you like it :)
I just don't like Vinny's drum sound, I love Dave Weckl's drum sound
your fatal left hand, you copied yourself from another channel 🤦🏽♂️
Not sure what you mean!
Need to work on your left hand's dynamics.
Why yes, I do!
@@DimitriFantini who doesn’t?
His left hand dynamics sounds fine to me!
That's from tony williams
TIL :)
