No one can do this better than Charlie because the fiddle is so important to the feeling of this song. Playing that instrument with the vocals is so important because the instrument is what the song is all about and he makes it sing with him.
I'm so glad you inserted that Guitar Hero clip so I could finally see what people were referencing when they mentioned it during other reactions to this song I've seen
Charles Daniel's Band is one of my favorites of all time. That man is savage on the fiddle and a great storyteller! In America is a great one of his songs too. He is in his 80's and still preforming!
I absolutely love your reaction! Getting into the story is one of the best aspects of music so I'm glad it was appreciated here as well! Also your hat is awesome!
So amazing that the guy is now in his 80s and still playing. He's a little "off" in recent videos I've seen, but I'll be happy to just be alive at 80, much less out on the road like he is.
The concert was a blast. Charlie saw a kid in the front row and he walked to the edge of the stage and gave the boy his bow. That’s a killer souvenir! Travis was great also and both artists paid homage to our military so I had a great night!
Cassandra Sherwood Now to hear that he has passed I’m deeply saddened but also thankful that I decided to buy that ticket and drive from Texas to Oklahoma to see him perform. As I sat there just a few rows back I was amazed at how spry he was for being in his 80s. It just goes to show you that live is precious, health is paramount, and every day is a gift. RIP Charlie!
Now you understand why it is important to know how metal evolved. It really doesn't matter where the influence comes from, to metal has so many avenues to draw from.
Growing up in the northeast in the 70’s, southern rock was huge. And Charlie played often in the tri state area of NY, CT and NJ. As did all the other southern rock bands. He’s still touring at 82. He was just at a venue at work at. Still sounds good.....
Its hard to listen to this song and not smile and bob your head at some point. Glad it still gets that reaction. You ALL must listen/watch his song In America.
Many elements of this song including the lines "chicken in the breadpan peckin out dough" and "granny will your dog bite, no chile no" are from a very old tune called Ida Red. Bob Wills covered it in 1938. Chuck Berry rewrote the lyrics of the Bob Wills version, and it became the huge rock & roll hit Maybellene in 1955
Charlie Daniels has plenty of songs which tell interesting stories, but my favorite would have to be Uneasy Rider. It was one of my Dad's favorites, too, and the first time I remember him playing it for me, I was doubled over, busting a gut from laughing so hard.
You might like the follow-up to Uneasy Rider, which I think is called Uneasy Rider '88. And if you like that one, you'll like the hilarious movie "Police Academy", but I won't tell you why. See if you can guess, if you want to try, lol. Btw, there's also several Police Academy sequel movies, all hilarious. Uneasy Rider '88 is on TH-cam.
If u ever go down in the wooly swamp, well u better not go at night! There’s things out there in the middle of them woods would make a strong man die from fright!
Charlie Daniels Band "Uneasy Rider" and the 80s sequel song, "Uneasy Rider '88". Both are hilarious! And the song about Americans coming together when it counts, "In America".
Still in Saigon is actually one of the few pro-veteran songs of the time. It was about what the Vets had to deal with when they got home. I was raised by a large group of vets and if you called Still in Saigon "anti-war" they would beat your ass. I have my own Vietnam flashbacks from when I made that mistake...
This song was in the 1980 movie Urban Cowboy with John Travolta. My friends and I were all 13 and thought this was so catchy. We sang it all the time and probably annoyed the hell out of whoever's parents were around. How about La Grange from ZZ Top?
The violin and the fiddle are the same instrument but depends on the music that is played on it. Classical musicians call it the violin and folk art, blue grass, country, Irish music call it the fiddle. Some have 4 strings and some have 5 strings. Here is a link with a little bit more information if you care to know. stringsmagazine.com/learn-the-difference-between-violin-and-fiddle/

Comparing Guitar Hero to original music is like comparing a toy model of a classic car to an actual classic car. But still kudos to GH for introducing great music to young listeners
The violin and the fiddle are the same instrument. They're played the same way as well, but the music from the fiddle is completely different from the music played on the violin!!
As a musician, you have to react to Lynaryd Skynyrd: Tuesday’s Gone. The instrumentation will blow you away. Anything LS should be live BUT this song, audio only or you will miss out on what they couldn’t do live.
A good number of their songs are story telling songs. Just a few are: Caballo Diablo Willie Jones Saddle Tramp The Legend Of Wooley Swamp The South's Gonna Do It Again Ain't No Ramblers Anymore Ragin' Cajun'
Interesting that you brought up guitar hero. Charlie Daniels was actually mad that they included this song on the game. He didn’t like that you played against the devil and usually lost until you got it al figured out.
Great reaction! Would love to see what you think about some Rockabilly. The Stray Cats. I won't even choose their biggest hits. Give Be-Bop-a-lula a listen. Live or acoustic. Can't go wrong either way.
My very talented violinist friend says that she loves playing Tchaikovsky but it requires precision. Fiddle style is a little more forgiving. If you occasionally play a wrong note people will be less critical of you. Also it’s a way to have fun. Knowing Dorothy she rarely makes mistakes.
Check out our the sequel the devil went back to Georgia. Johnny now a family man who hasn’t played for awhile, the devil comes back demanding a rematch. The coolest version is the music video co-starring Johnny Cash, but don’t know if you can show that version without copyright concerns.

I love country because of the story telling alot of it has. As far as recomendations : Vince gills “go rest high on that mountain”. Tim mcgraws “dont take the girl” brooks and dunn “believe” or if you want a dancin song their “boot scootin boogie” is cool.
Everything by Charlie Daniels Band is a good story telling song, Legend of the Wooly Swamp, Uneasy Rider, Midnight Train, Long Haired County Boy, got a lot of radio time, a few others that tell great stories but were not as radio successful El Toreador , South Sea Song, Dance Gypsy Dance
Have you been thru Dark Side of The Moon yet? You should listen to that. All of it. With headphones is perfect. Do it for yourself if you can't go thru all of it here. It's worth a long video.
Just for fun, listen to "Marie LaVeau" by Bobby Bare....It'll make you smile, maybe even chuckle...If you want a song that will pull at your emotions, listen to "Teddy Bear" by Red Sovine....
I recommended an additional song and made a mistake in the title but can't find my comment to edit it so I'll try again. A lot of people have been reviewing this song but I haven't seen anyone review The Devil comes back to Georgia. That's when the devil and Johnny meet again
Very late to this party. I hope you're still doing the 365 days of new artists. Being a guitarist I think you might appreciate this. The artist is Roy Clark, no singing just an instramental solo of the song malaguena. I picked this clip from an old sitcom as he does it on an acoustic guitar. He's also a great banjo player too. th-cam.com/video/-xssnp7R51A/w-d-xo.html

I've been listening to this song, since the day it came out, and I still get a chill when the devil accepts defeat.

It’s a fiddle. Aka a Violin. Same instrument, different attitude.
I think it's an electric fiddle
There's a violin, and there's a fiddle. What Charlie Daniels was playing there was a fiddle.
actually the difference between a fiddle and a violin is the bridge height
PERFECT explanation.
Yeah same shot different angle....lol
God bless, he's in God's hands now. Thanks for the vid.
The legend of Wooley Swamp, Uneasy Rider, Midnight Train. All great songs.
For sure Uneasy Rider!
