- More of my illustrations through Ai, this time the classic 1972 Doctor Who Jon Pertwee story The Sea Devils, produced by Barry Letts, written by Malcom Hulke and script edited by Terrance Dicks. The Doctor and Jo Grant travel to the south coast where the Master is imprisoned on an island. But a mystery involving sinking ships leads the Doctor into an escalating conflict between the Navy and a familiar adversary.
With thanks to Michael Davoren for Sea Devil voices and Radiophonic sounds.
Music: Marco Beltrami (The Omen - 2006) - (The Thing - 2011) Ron Grainer/Delia Derbyshire (Doctor Who theme 1963/1979.
Leave a comment on what works and what doesn't as I attempt to improve my skills with putting my illustrations through Ai, editing and adding sound. And if you have a suggestion for another trailer please mention that too.
I can’t stop watching these videos Daryl . I absolutely adore your work , I brought your book last summer at the art exhibition in Taunton and every time I look at the art I find something else to admire that I missed originally, likewise with the calendar. I am blown away by these videos though and genuinely think there is a market for a commercial release - I for one would purchase immediately.
Astonishingly good and I keenly await your next example
If the animations on dvd were this amazing, the sales would rocket...
Stunning animation! The Sea Devils look incredibly creepy. Excellent!
Jaw droppingly good, a really epic feel to it. The sea fort scenes are terrifyingly effective!
Superb in every conceivable way. Truly worthy of a Doctor Who Oscar 11/10 😊
This is thrilling! Not to downplay it in any way, it feels so very close but not quite there. At the rate of acceleration, it isn't going to be long, though. It genuinely feels like we're on the edge of something great. Stunning artwork from Daryl as always! (PLEASE, PLEASE can we have another print run of your book in hardback, Daryl?! 🙏) 👏👏
I agree, It's very hit and miss, there's a lot of scenes that I discarded, and others I attempted many times before settling on the 'acceptable', but I do think the technology is advancing so fast that with the right imagery, and the increasing improvement in lip sync and the option for a start image and end image, it makes trailers at least a very achievable goal.
You even got the Master's head shake down!
Doctor Who with this tone would honestly be insane. As much as the AI part of this can be uncanny at times. This has such a terrific vibe!
Easily the best Doctor Who animation I’ve ever seen! Your Sea Devils are completely creepy and it’s given a story I think I could replay scene-for-scene in my head a truly brilliant reimagining. Im blown away 😊😊
lovely job - dripping with atmosphere and the sound design is on a level with the superb visuals as well
Sound editing is my favourite part of the process. It distorts a bit here and there but I'm still learning to get the balance right, there are a lot of channels.
wow, this is quite wonderful.
Absolutely awesome 🎉🎉🎉😊
In my best David Banks' voice: Excellent!
Superb. This has the sense of scale that was inside my head when watching these stories as a kid. If only the official animations could be this good. I would dearly like to see your take on some missing episodes.
Any chance of doing a missing episode.Stunning work
... very cool!
IMPRESSIVE !!!
Superb work - This 'get up and Go' enthusiasm and love for the hobby is what is so great about a Fandom. It's what has kept me so close to Doctor Who, and shows off how the character and adventures ca and do go beyond just television...
Minor critique, but the shot of the Master and Doctor on the Jet-ski's is much too early in this edit, it's especially jarring when the next shot is the Doctor and Jo arriving at the coastline to visit the Master, in prison! But what a lovely shot of Roger Delgado exercising... and the knowing smirk! Followed by an equally lovely shot of Jo on the coastline...
One of the really nice decisions with this film is to use angles and shots which would have been too difficult back in the day - the moving overhead view of the marine base at 2.50 is an example of this, and the complex is rendered in such fine detail too.
"Dear oh Dear Doctor, Will You Never Learn...?"
It's a lovely piece of work - thank-you for all your effort!
Scary and gorgeous. Very many thanks.
Wow absolutely mind blowing. Stunning just stunning 😮❤
Absolutely fantastic… again. Can’t imagine the amount of work that goes into these, but any fan of you work will be hooked, (like me) :-)
This is absolutely fantastic work.
Utterly wonderful. Animated Illustrations, of the highest quality. This is next level artwork! And so much excellent detail packed into the piece. Augmented further, by brilliant evocative mood music. What a wonderful method to re-interpret classic Dr Who story-telling, while honouring the source material. I love classic Dr Who and I adore Dr Who artwork, so to see and hear this beautifully crafted artpiece, well, I just can't sing your praises enough, Daryl! I love your brilliant artwork ;D
Absolutely jaw dropping Russell get this boy to do a spin off series the classic series in a class of your own.
Most impressive. Very good 👏👏👏
Heard this mentioned tonight on Who’s Views , and my my my ! It’s absolutely amazing. What a talent . Astonishing stuff Daryl , thank you very much for posting it up
it all works mate , incredible skills
Absolutely fabulous, one of my favourites, love it❤❤
Wow this is amazing work, respect sir.
Outstanding stuff - the Sea Devil designed looked truly breathtaking, vastly superior to the Silurian makeover the BBC with all its resources managed.. Wow, really glad I just stumbled across your channel. You have a new subscriber, of course!
Mind-blowing. Stunning work. The Sea Devils have never looked so good. Can't wait for more! Thank you for sharing your amazing work.
Brilliant once again
I'm sure if that video was viewed by anyone with any common sense who works for Disney RTD would now be upside down, held by the ankles, having the money shaken out of his pockets by Vinnie and Paulie (private contractors).....Excellent art Daryl.
Wonderful stuff, thank you for doing and sharing these! It would be amazing if the missing episodes could be animated in such a way…
Absolutely vintage stuff! ❤
It is Brilliant top marks, it is better than the so called Doctor Who you get these days. Keep up the great work, you are very talented artist
Absolutely fantastic animation as usual. The Sea Devils look much better than their TV counterparts. This is visually stunning.
Absolutely incredible! Stunning, atmospheric and a true work of art!
In an ideal world you would be overseeing the official animations.
They are woeful compared to your work.
NOW THAT'S how Dr. Who animation and artwork SHOULD LOOK ... As for the SEA DEVILS imho I think that's the BEST interpretation EVER... THAT'S how they should be portrayed ON SCREEN
Mr. Joyce, Sir, I applaud you!!
I could happily watch your animated version of the Sea Devils story.
Thank you for all of your work and efforts to show the world HOW Dr. Who should be done in the 21st century and how to draw and animate lost episodes.
This 5 mins alone completely destroyed RTD'S 1st Gatwa season 😂
Well done mate.
The BBC MUST employ you to animate and reanimate missing Dr. Who episodes.
Power of the Daleks, Evil of the Daleks, The Highlanders, Wheel in Space, The Faceless Ones, The WEB OF FEAR most DEFINITELY needs to be given your artistic talents....have you seen that appalling excuse for animation? A bunch of hijack Sims characters 😂
The Abominable Snowman and so the list goes on. These stories NEED your artistic talents completely not just in part. You should be head Artist and Chief Animator.
Bravo! I second that motion! 🙏🏼 ❤️❤️➕🔷
Wonderful! Can't be long before full animation for lost shows are done like this.
Well done!
Thank you Daryl stunning artwork and presentation, not alone by saying would pay good money to see a full story done by your good self. Got to ask though what happened to Tomb?
Still on the cards, but I had more illustrations for The Sea Devils so I got to that one first.
That's awesome 😊 so impressive most impressive.
Good Lord - Outstanding!
This, like everything you seem to produce, is just incredible. It seems to get better and better! Do you do this alone? How do you do it, and how long did it take you? BBC Studios should be offering you a job! Dare I ask when we can hope to see more, please? 🙏🏼 ❤❤+🔷
Thank you. Yes I do this alone. I have a rough Idea for a trailer narrative, put my illustrations through Ai, (numerous times), edit a rough cut to music, and then fill in the gaps with new illustrations. This one took about five weeks of evenings, although many of the illustrations date back to stuff I was painting in the 1990s.
Mate you've done it again! I hope the BBC are taking notes 👍👍
Love the animation but in a painting style. Very unique. Love sea devil concept. Very old and very scary
Daryl!
What?!
Incredible. Well done. Please do remembrance next time 😅
Wow. As good as the real thing
