Very good video, the best part is when you get your kids involved. They will appreciate this when they are older. But not until after they pass through the lovely stage of being a teenager. Keep up the good work.

After doing much research (including this video) I purchased the this jig and two boxes of screws (bad decision).. The drilling of the holes was no problem but once I tried to drive the screws the bit would not hold in the screw and it ended up striping the head of the bit... I got another bit with the purchase of the screws but same result... I spent 3 hours driving to Home Depot/Lowes and other locations attempting to find a bit but nobody carries the jig or the bits... The head of the screws are proprietary and nothing will fit except the special Kreg bit... This was over the weekend and I had no choice but to buy different screws for my job... I got GRK #8 2 1/2 screws with a standard T10 bit and they worked fine... I used my driver and did not need to predrill as needed for Kreg and still drove the screws in at the same angle (somewhat concealed just like Kreg)... This was all on a Sunday and that night I sent an email to Kreg on Tues I got a response from their support department that confirmed the screws are harder than the bit and they recommend using a drill and not a driver (although this video a driver was used)... Would be nice if they put that in their instructions... they offered to send me a new bit but the job is done and I am stuck with two boxes of expensive screws... Not trying to be negative but just sharing my experience....

Thanks for sharing Dave, that sounds pretty frustrating! We didn't run into this issue, but I'm glad you got an answer and decided to share it here. That will be helpful to someone else with the suggestion of using a drill not a driver for the screws (although I totally understand that it wasn't helpful for you). Glad you were, at least, able to finish up your project.

Do you need to add / use the spacers? Or can you keep the deck boards tightly together?

We recommend using the spacer that comes with the Deck Jig to get the right spacing.

Is it me or does this tool pre drill the hole in the boards too high on the edge of the board. Looks like the hole should be lower so you can’t see them. Please advise, thanks!

I can't see the predrilled holes when I look at our deck. In my opinion, it hides the holes well. So much better than having them on the face of the wood on the deck!

Is there any danger of water pooling in the holes?

great! maybe should stagger your joints?

Staggering the joints is stronger but in this case I opted to have just the one line as a personal preference since the deck is very small.
