Mobius 1 first of all, Assault Horizon isn't part of the Strangereal universe, Second, those were not technically nukes, but experimental thermobaric warheads. Thirdly, the missile in question was going straight up at Mach 3 and was at an incredible altitude, making Reaper's feat all the more historic.
Infinity isn't part of the Strangereal universe either. And I'm not sure if you've played Assault Horizon, but I'm pretty sure the ICBM in question was going the same speed if not faster if it was able to slowly outrun a F-22 at full afterburner whilst both were going straight up (Mission 11: Launch if you don't know which missile I'm referring to).

I'd suggest starting with the PS2 ones (aka, the Golden Trio). Would highly recommend starting with 4 to build your flying skills since 5 and Zero give you the wingman crutch. If you want it for the story, play 5. If you want it just for the "Ace Combat Experience" get Zero. Unfortunately, there are no Ace Combat games for the Wii, but HAWX is a somewhat similar experience.

I'm only guessing just by glance, the F-15E with 4AGM is the default plane and armament for this mission. Moe Factor simply selected his/her customized F-2A with LASM instead.

i got that feeling too, just too similar to the Zero story line. both Viper and Pixy 'find a reason' to do something. Viper to 'retire' and Pixy to fight.
