The reason they are so friendly is that they have no natural predators on the island, and got used to humans. Haa! Love this video. I visited the island in March of 2017. I brought a cardboard printout of my bunny to show the bunnies I met there. Unfortunately, I got a little too distracted that I didn't notice my cardboard bunny fell off my bag. I tried to retrace my steps and look for it, but couldn't find it in the end. So, not only are there real bunnies on Okunoshima, but my cardboard bunny is there as well.
Sorry to hear. I lost my little girl Petunia over a year ago, just shy of 11 1/2. Not a day has passed where I haven't thought of her, but at least she's peaceful now...and so is Bubba. 🐰

I had a big male regaled with the name of Prozac.. died when he was 12.... Black and while old english rabbit with massive shoulders, a trim waist and powerful back legs.. but.. he was a "dork" which made him all the more lovable. I miss my "Zac". Even though I have had more bunnies since then I still cry for him eve though I now hope he is in a far better place.

I highly doubt they get medical attention as they are left to tend for themselves, besides some hay and water being put out for them. I am sure if someone finds one dead on the island it is removed since it is a tourist attraction now.

few weeks ago i bought a baby kitten from the neighborhood and my rabbit got shit scared but when i send the kitten back i discovered my rabbit was very angry with me lol she tried to bite me and fight me so i strike back and continued to make her run for 3 mins and then she licked me and slept under my hand 😅😅😅 i showed her whose the boss here 😎😎😎

To your rabbit, you smelled more like cat and less like you, so she bit you thinking you were an "intruder". You should introduce two animals slowly on neutral ground. Unless some time passed and it happened when the cat scent on you already disappeared. In that case your rabbit was probably just angry with you. Still, hitting and chasing your bunny around was a pretty messed up thing to do... Running around in fear for three minutes straight could have ended up with a heart attack.

Love the little babies who are so friendly to humans! I planted a big garden for my brother one year and I looked around and saw 3 of the wild rabbits in the garden I was planting. I planted it right on top of their warren.

I went last year. It was upsetting to see sick /injured bunnies, but the vast majority were healthy. It's hard to say whether there was a higher proportion of sick bunnies on the island than natural because you don't usually get to see the sick rabbits in the wild :/ nor do you ever get to see that many in one place. People did seem to go out of their way to look after them. I think it's just a shock for people to see ill animals when they're used to keeping them as pets.

I think you don't know anything about bunnies. I've had many for years, and pellets that are made for bunnies are okay for them. Of course hay is important too, but they are not stupid. Rabbits eat litaraly everything that's not another animal or toxic plants. Grass and other plants are good too. Please don't judge this whole place based on some girl's youtube video

The downside of rabbit island is that most of the bunnies are extremely ill, suffering with open untreated wounds, limited fresh water and food. They all rely on tourists to feed them and water them. Many suffer with tumors or respiratory diseases. There are a couple of videos that talk about the truth so definitely check them out. We need to help spread awareness so people realise the cruel reality. These bunnies are suffering. If you are planning on going, please, please take plenty of food and water for them! They need your help! The best food to take is banana or kale. Cabbage has no health benefits!

Omg glad to know that the authorities took step for these beautiful bunnies giving food and water because the last i saw the video about rabbit Island i saw more sick dehydrated injured week and hungry rabbits and that they only get to eat food which tourists bring. I know that a lot of people are elated because bunnies in this island are so cute and I agree with that but what people don't fail to realize is that they are also vulnerable from the elements. I don't even think they are given any vet care they deserve. I hope that the Japanese government can work with organizations to at least give some rabbit care to these adorable creatures.

I have a bunny - for eight years now. Cabbage is his name (but I also call him Mr Bunny Poo, because he drops them like crazy). Had a special house designed and built for him, which he absolutely loves. He is cuddly, funny, lovable, and smart. We have fun together. The downside of rabbit island is that most of the bunnies are extremely ill, suffering with open untreated wounds, limited fresh water and food. They all rely on tourists to feed them and water them. Many suffer with tumors or respiratory diseases. There are a couple of videos that talk about the truth so definitely check them out. We need to help spread awareness so people realise the cruel reality. These bunnies are suffering. If you are planning on going, please, please take plenty of food and water for them! They need your help! The best food to take is banana or kale. Cabbage has no health benefits!

Omg glad to know that the authorities took step for these beautiful bunnies giving food and water because the last i saw the video about rabbit Island i saw more sick dehydrated injured week and hungry rabbits and that they only get to eat food which tourists bring. I know that a lot of people are elated because bunnies in this island are so cute and I agree with that but what people don't fail to realize is that they are also vulnerable from the elements. I don't even think they are given any vet care they deserve. I hope that the Japanese government can work with organizations to at least give some rabbit care to these adorable creatures.
why? nature takes care of everything. rabbits beat the game of life with large numbers and high fertility. they will be able to take care of themselves and get stronger and stronger, because only the ones resistant to "the elements" will survive.

I have a bunny - for eight years now. Cabbage is his name (but I also call him Mr Bunny Poo, because he drops them like crazy). Had a special house designed and built for him, which he absolutely loves. He is cuddly, funny, lovable, and smart. We have fun together. Have never had my own pet, until Mr Bunny Poo landed on my lap. I love my bunny 🐰 ❤️🇵🇹❤️
