The day the decision to turn off the Opera House lights (and bridge) at 930pm to save power lol was the day the whole city declined. Most other tourist spots around the World are lit up like Christmas trees until dawn. Sydney city council thinks its saving the World by shutting off the lights lol lol lol
Around 2010 the nightclubs and bars all started playing the same type of music and things started to fall off. We used to have The Red Room playing old school jams, Cargo Bar and Marble Bar playing 70's and 80's soul and funk etc. - different spots for different vibes and crowds. Around 2011 - 2012 you would go bar hopping and hear The Black Eyed Peas "I gotta feeling" play on the hour every hour at each spot. Parramatta also deserves a solid mention - The Roxy was a great institution, but unfortunately some very unsavoury things went down there constantly. We can't have nice things here.
I lived in Spain in the 80's and early 90's. When I returned to Sydney I realised how dead the city was. That was 28 years ago. Nothing's changed. Sydney was and always will be a dump. It was dead way before 2012.
80’s 90’s and early 2000’s Sydney was up there with the best. Started to go downhill when they really came down on ecstacy use. More people drank, more problems, the night life drifted away and look where we are now.
What are you talking about, I grew up in the inner west and I was always partying in the cross and Oxford Street and I was always having the most amazing nights back then. So stop talking shit.
Given how appalling Sydney's nightlife is, I can see why so many people go to the major hardstyle festivals here per year (shoutout to HSU Events). We don't have a lot of events anymore so we just gotta work with what we still have left.
Actually I thought Hardstyle died off years ago. I don't think anyone listens to that music outside of the festivals - not the bulk of attendees anyway - that music was once in dedicated dance clubs in Sydney and Melbourne. I suspect its an outlet for young people to experiment with drugs and go bananas.
The peak was between 1990 and 1996, I lived and breathed it, Hordern Pavilion dance parties, Ziggurat in Kings Cross, DCM in Oxford Street and The infamous Blackmarket prior to the bikie shooting, unfortunately those days will never be duplicated nor beaten, the drugs, the music, the people, it was a once in a lifetime experience 💪

Before the lockout laws, Kingscross was absolutely jam packed with people every Friday and Saturday night, the vibe was good, tourists from around the world literally flocked there because Sydney was famous for our nightlife! And it's not just Kingscross but the CBD as well! I have met heaps of tourists from around the world at Kingscross, We Sydneysiders used to scoff, look down and make fun of Melbournes nightlife because we were just so much better than their nightlife as well as any major city in Australia. I remember the strippers in front of the stripclubs would walk around on the footpath be dressed like showgirls, and they would literally take your hand and pull you into the strip club. There was also a nightclub for every genre you can imagine, rnb/ hip hop, rock, techno, electro, classy vibes, pop music...etc, you name it Kingscross as the redlight district dates back 150 years as sailors used to dock at Garden Island and come up to Kingscross for the brothels and fun, this has all been destroyed forever by the lockout laws, it's really sad to see.

Sydney government should really give it a solid crack at revitalising it. The nightlife has been dead since 2012, any of the potential troublemakers that the lockout laws were aimed for aren't around anymore. Sydney is different in 2024, the youth have changed there is hardly any violence. Such a waste for young people and tourists visiting here, its a total embarrassment. Being 34, I'm glad i at least experience the cross and CBD 2007-2012. Great video
Not gonna lie, i don't think its that bad the nightlife. Its not the best but its not that as people say. Like who wants to keep partying past 3 anyway, unless your on drugs. Clubbing scene is awful, go to do something else fun on Saturday.
They killed kingas to make the developers happy, take take - Frank Sartor is a key player in the destruction here, dont forget that. Clover moore has destroyed what was left. These 2 people alone, single handedly destroyed Sydney. I know because i used to work for them
Look at the guy that Keiran Loveridge punched and killed. A small kid that wouldn't have had a fight in his life. Sydney didn't need lockout laws, it needed harsher punishments for these pathetic cowards. I wonder how many Tongans he randomly punched? My guess is zero
I prefer gold coast nightlife. In Melbourne the people are a bit special, not all of them but some, I kept getting called bigot and all weird names there
Its alright we can work hard save up - take our money to South East Asia and go bananas. And they are happy to take our money and show us a good time. Actually as a side note I have watched venue after venue close in the Victorian suburbs over the years - now its an abandoned wasteland as far as nightlife goes. My understanding is the police dont like going out in the cold at 3am and rounding up a few drunks so they take away the venues liquor licence.
Most people have matured ans dont go clubbing and the rest have no social skills cause they spend all their time on tik tok not knowing how to talk to people
Talking a nightclub is basically yelling at someone 10 cms away from their face and still understanding what the other person is talking about. I don't know how bar attendants do it. I just hand gestures to help out lol
I don’t care about nightlife because I’m in bed by 9:30. What’s the point of drinking and dancing in stinky clubs or gambling? It’s just a waste of money

I'm from London UK & never been to Australia! ☹️
It’s not just the lockout laws. It’s one of the most expensive cities in the world. Who can afford to go out?
All Australian expensive our taxes to high duties & excise taxes why alchoal & ciggretes bloody expensive
Great video
Bro in the background getting arrested for the video lol 9:30
Best nightlife is in Melbourne.
Sydney is the worst city overall. Most over rated place on earth.
But it so cheap. You can rent a place 1 hour from CBD for only $700 per week /sarcasm
Whos this guy Luke. U weren't even around then mate!
Yeah you tell him champ!
@@jamesdodge1729 😊
He looks pretty young. I am 38 and I was around then but I did not go to the cross too often.
Melbourne some of best nightlife in world 🤷♂️
You live a really isolated life, mate..
I prefer gold coast nightlife. In Melbourne the people are a bit special, not all of them but some, I kept getting called bigot and all weird names there
I didn't have that many brain cells left but after watching this vid I lost the 2 remaining brain cells I had.
Wow Kim Hollingsworth a real life superhero she has a lot to offer society she knows from the fine to the course end.
Frankston
Most people have matured ans dont go clubbing and the rest have no social skills cause they spend all their time on tik tok not knowing how to talk to people
Talking a nightclub is basically yelling at someone 10 cms away from their face and still understanding what the other person is talking about. I don't know how bar attendants do it. I just hand gestures to help out lol
The cross ìn the 1990s-2005 brilliant wouldn't bother visiting NSW again
Town Hall the party spot
Indoneaia
It's okay everyone that you don't have enough venues to drop caps and drink copious amounts of piss every weekend, try a bushwalk instead.
Don't come to Northbridge then 😂
They destroyed the nightlfe so their mates in the Casino could cash in...
Unfortunately Thomas's parents ended up losing 2 sons out of what happened in 2012.
Why is everyone hot in Australia!!!??? 😵💫🫠 🇦🇺
So many boring comments obviously these people don’t know what it’s like to be carefree
100%, a 20 year old now does not know what life is compared to a 20 year old from 1994
I don’t care about nightlife because I’m in bed by 9:30. What’s the point of drinking and dancing in stinky clubs or gambling? It’s just a waste of money
Lmao Sydney has always been overrated
former sex worker? no its former prostitte and stripper. but the goal is the same but the methods are different slightly.
Lad your smaking ard 😂
She only has herself to blame for her choices, yet she tries to play the victim…. Do better
She was dating a dropkick, she should have move from there.
Australia is cultureless…
We are culture-less swine, thank you very much!
Drugs and prostitution very much do mix! You just have to deal with it!
Cocaine and hookers together like wine and cheese.
That’s why Melbourne is better
Harsher punishments for crime simple
