Agreed, I'm a classic rock dude, but the gear and production content are solid, and Glenn is legitimately a good dude (just don't tell him that). Hell once in awhile these guys are even pretty funny...
I love all types of music, metal included and I love Gibson guitars too which i know often gets blasted on this channel but I still keep coming back to Glenn's channel. He has great stuff, especially for having clean recordings. Its funny how people get so triggered off his channel haha
Monster cable did exist in the 80's, but I only remember them making speaker cables then. As a vintage audio repair tech and ex-recording engineer, I've found that many times the "not subtle" differences noted when people try out high end cables comes from the fact that their previous cables were defective. Going from broken cables to working cables will make a "not subtle" difference, but you're absolutely right about the lamp cord.
4:20 (nice) I feel like the 'whole studio rewire' makes me think that there was a distinct point of failure in the previous wiring that had been overlooked, and rewiring everything with cheap cables would have had the same result.
Several things can explain it and very, very few of them require rewiring everything. Now.. i have done my first long signal runs in the 80s and for sure, there were some absolutely god awful cables back then. Mainly, too thin, not enough shielding, wiring done by electricians causing hum, interference, CB and AM radio was not uncommon problem.. It is possible but what makes those claims difficult to accept is that they never took time to find out WHY. My guess is the simplest: tiny change in the signal levels. This causes so many blind tests to show positive results when the culprit is poor control and less than stellar testing protocol. Slight level change does not sound louder, it sounds better. Mids are clearer, bass pumps more, is more dynamic and the high end sparkles more. Everything is better.. and if those are the results, every single frequency comes out better, it is most likely different level signal. And in the 80s, input/output impedances weren't guaranteed to match.. we still had transformer based inputs and then cables do have a bigger role. So, going from some wire stock from the 70s, wired poorly to a new cables.. can make a change. The problem is when that change is not quantified and the reasons why are not investigated. It is a fault condition that was fixed by magic.
Probably was crappy half broken cables to start with. I worked for a large sound and lighting company in the 80's, Westbury Sound, We used quality mic cables and "kettle cord" speaker cables for years until we upgraded t o multi audio cables. Always worked and always sounded great.
@@squidcaps4308 I remember a gig in the late 80s where a woman's voice using a CB radio kept coming through the P.A., picked up through the cables. We found her, she was in one of our guitarists' van on the other side of the wall, in the back carpark of the pub, using his CB. We told her to stop, but she did it again several times during the gig, swearing that she hadn't touched the CB when confronted. We know you did! The whole pub knows you did! It's coming through the front of house speakers, duh!!!
@@worldsheaviestjamband93 When we bought the house, it had two separate garage doors, only one of them worked and there were no working remotes. Took a few years to build up the cash to pay for their replacement, but the results are awesome.
I'm hoping to put in a new driveway next year. You can bet I will be flexing about the new driveway, while friends and family roll their eyes.... oh it will be glorious!
I've been fortunate enough to gig and record with drummers who always, ALWAYS had fresh heads, non-squeaky pedals and uncracked cymbals. Also with bassplayers who didn't drool and change their strings. Can't say the same about the singers though...
Talented and competent singers that can write their own material is so rare that the same names keep popping up till everyone in the industry knows who they are. A lot of A-list names have worked with Beth Hart for instance because she can sing and learn songs quickly. If Daria Zaritskaya lived in the UK or the U.S. she would be a household name by now. Still she is popular on the internet.
Around 7:30, absolutely do NOT give up! And you don’t have to become world-famous to make a decent living doing what you love. You DO have to be extremely consistent, patient, and don’t bury yourself in debt with stupid stuff.
What's your Top 5 Albums produced at Spectre that you really enjoy revisiting again and again for the album it is, despite working on it? (I'll assume Woods is a given) How about a spotify/YT music playlist of your personal picks showcasing the talent you've had there over the years?
Building codes can vary substantially from town to town Glenn. Make sure you’ve got all tour t’s crossed and i’s dotted before you meet with your town council. I’m VERY excited to watch the build series.
Mind blown!!!! I though "VC" was Various Cross-examinations ... you know of gear and stuff. And "demo" meant Directly Explaining My Opinions... sort of like an FAQ
I feel privileged to have been watching your show for so long, now knowing that there will be a new studio in the future, assuming everything goes well (fingers crossed)
I don't blame you for leaving LA - it's overcrowded, takes an hour to drive 20 miles on the freeway, and rent/mortgage is extremely expensive, even in the "cheapest" locations 🤘 it's only gotten worse as the years have passed by!
7:47 You didn't get lucky Glenn, you worked your arse off and made it happen. Its like the old sports saying: "The more I practice, the luckier I get."
Imagine my surprise seeing you on the Netflix series “This Is Pop” on the episode “Auto-Tune” I guess you have to thank your fellow Canadian Sam Dunn for that!
Yep lamp cord, I've been using it for over 25 years it's the best. If you notice, car audio speaker wire is the exact same thing they just make it a different color and charge you more.
My father-in-law is a total audiophile, he spends big bucks on things like gold plated cables and stuff. He swears it makes a difference, but I seriously doubt that. He does have a pretty awesome sounding setup though, but that probably comes down to quality amps and speakers rather than the cables. Again, it's just a means of moving electricity around.
@@helgijonsson3537 the gold plating is only apply to the quarter inch connector, you can put a gold-plated connector on a length of lamp cord and get the same effect.
@@mark5150ty Yeah, actually both silver and copper are better conductors than gold so they would be better for the cable part its only sensible to use gold for the connector since it wont corrode.
@@Stefan- I don't know where you got that from but gold is the far better conductor. But you cannot buy goldwire. One cable would probably cost you over $2,000.
@@mark5150ty No you are wrong, i learned this in school many years ago when learning electronic repair and i have worked as a service tech for more than 30 years. Its all over the internet and you can check for yourself, silver is the best conductor followed by copper and then gold in third place and aluminium in fourth.
While I was recording a band the drummer told me about a producer his old band worked with who kept trying to mold them into something radio friendly, and they were very disappointed in the results. He said it didn’t sound like them and that any band could have recorded it. I told him “you know what? We’re not doing any of that. I’m going to mic you up and you can play it anyway you want.” Turns out he was a very skilled drummer and played great that day. I like to think my words inspired him.
Monster Cable was founded in 1979 according to a short internet search. What I have found is, that people define very subtle differences as "not subtle at all" especially in audio. What they really mean is:" it is audible, if you listen for it" :D - Cheers and have fun in Germany
I gave up on Monster Cable and Monster power supplies after I looked at the specs and realized that companies like Furman make power supplies with the same quality and nearly identical specs while also being reasonably priced. ProCo cables sound just as good as Monster or Mogami cables. ProCo cables are lower priced and still maintain great quality. Monster cable and power supplies are overpriced. If somebody purchases a cable or power supply based on brand name, they will already be biased to assume the item must be superior, thus they will "hear" a difference.
Ive had a set of 1984 pearl exports for about 13yrs now. Still sound great. I've never used any moon gel or any dampening on the heads. Never needed it. And I'm more of a Gretsch man. I never understood peoples hate for Pearl. If you take care of your kit and take the time to tune, any kit can sound great. Cheers on the new studio kit Glen!
Pearl has been a solid brand for decades. I've never understood why people have a problem with them. Gretsch guy here too, I've got a Catalina Club 4 pc. kit in my studio. Its a smaller kit but still packs a punch and records well.
Something that doesn't get talked about enough is...that you don't have to aspire to doing music (in whatever capacity) for a living. Sometimes, it's enough that it's a hobby - something that you just want to _do_ rather than sacrifice and push to make money out of. If it's something you love doing, and you can find the time to do it outside of a full-time job and any social/family obligations, then it can still have _huge_ value in your life as a respite from the daily struggle. Just try not to be shit at it if you're ever going to inflict it on anybody else.
I worked in downtown LA during 2013-2015, and can confirm that though the nightlife is great, the weekends are like a post-apocalyptic ghost town. I can't imagine how much that place would suck during a pandemic.
HEEEEEEEYY GLEEEEEEEEN!!!!! From sunny High Desert Southern California. Absol freaking lutely love your channel my man. Haters gonna hate cause it generally goes against something they've believed for a long time and can't come to grips they have simply gone about it the wrong way. Simply put, the foam treatment in studios, I totally fell for it myself and went through hours of working on that stuff only to get a partial effect. THE TRAPS ARE WHERE IT'S AT PEOPLE, and stupid simple to make, thank you Glen!! I have recorded my drums in my garage with running a USB off a Tascam Model 16 to my computer, yes it's a long USB with boosters, with using cheap Pyle Pro drum mics and 57 on snare. My question is this, I have no acoustic treatment in my garage at all, I have simply hung some blankets in front and behind the kit and let the unevenness of the junk in the garage dissipate the rest and they sound amazing, could I have created on accident, bass traps just by leaving things like junk and old boxes stacked up??? Also, the drums are facing a wall to the right of the kit from a corner so not at symmetrical to the room either. Thanks for the content as always and FUCK YOU GLEN!!
@@eternalism8274 Ah yes, slipping up the time does make him untrustworthy. Ignore the fact that he gave genuine helpful advice in multiple videos. Also, nice ad hominem attack in the last sentence there. Just another typical "Butthurt of the Week" comment style.
There can *definitely* be a difference between XLR cables (from an electronically measurable standpoint) but it really just boils down to how well it rejects outside noise/interference - and this has to do solely with the cable construction/shielding/twisted pair or not/does it have a static dissipating layer (for preventing handling noise when the cable moves) etc.. and that’s it, but it can absolutely make a measurable difference, but in no way is it extremely obvious and it shows it’s benefits not in all studio environments. Also just cuz it’s expensive doesn’t mean it employs any of these things. The other difference is tolerance of the connector dimensions and reliability of its connections, but again just cuz it’s cheap doesn’t mean necessarily that it’s unreliable, but some brands absolutely DO make more reliable cables, but you will pay a premium (Mogami branded cables for example) I really encourage everyone to experiment with *making your own* cables - You can buy Mogami (or other high quality cable from equally good manufactures, do research!) and Neutrik (or Switchcraft etc. reliable brands) connectors and make your own if you learn how to use a soldering iron 👍 This will beat (or at least be on par with) ANY “audiophile” (or “audiofoolery”) category cable out there. Anything where an electical connection is being made you can make your own for cheaper than buying em (especially cheaper than the audiofool stuff..) You can even make your own IEC mains connector cables if you do desire!
My band also got ghosted by a producer, label/studio owner. The guy said he was tired of recording/producing rock bands for 13 year olds, while bragging about the golden records on the wall. He needed a challenged and invited us over, offering a 50/50 investment. We decided on going for a 3-song EP and test the whole thing. A lot of effort was put by everyone into it and then silence. After some months we managed to get the recording files to finish it somewhere else, there wasn't much resistance but still had it handed over to us by one of his recording engineers/interns. The engineer from the other studio was outraged at the bad setup and quality of the recording, specially cymbals and vocals. It took a while but he got it done, and got paid fairly for his work. But well, the final quality was still constrained by the original recording so a failure overall. Best would have been to start all over, but it was prog metal, 3 songs ranging from 6 to 9 minutes and not enough budget.
We had a buddy in the mid-'80s, who wired up the gigantic speaker system in his truck with Monster Cable. At the time, we didn't know what he was talking about - we were younger and couldn't drive yet, much less did we care about trucks that "went 'boom,'" so we thought he just meant that the cables were so huge or powerful that they were like "monsters." Finally, he got tired of our stupidity and whipped out a chunk, and sure enough, it said "Monster Cable" on the insulation. Turns out, they've been around since 1978/1979.
Hey, Glenn! Speaking of low-watt tube amps, I own a Blackstar HT20 MKII and it CRANKS! I've got it hooked up to a Harley Benton Vintage 4x12 cabinet and used it for a festival that took place on a farm...filled the entire field! Plus, it's switchable for wattage (2 watts or 20 watts). MORAL OF THE STORY: You don't always need those three Marshall Plexi heads to get amazing crunch and full sound. Use it for recording too! Excellent sound.
Back in the 70's we rewired our Behringer copy of a Mackie board with Vovox cables and the results were not subtle. We even used gold plated connectors. It sounded so amazing that we didn't dare to release our music because the whole producer scene would have been embarrassed.
Alright, I’ve been watching your show for 7 months with my 7 month old daughter. It started out great, but now I start to regret it. When you start yelling, she is repeating it and yap-yap until she craps her pants. Greetings from the deep heavy metal forests of Sweden! 🤘
I actually met the Steel Panther guys in Oslo in 2013/14 ish(I’ve seen them several times), and Lexxi and stixx didn’t mind taking selfies with all of us, but Satchel didn’t want to do it without his costume, which we understood. They all talked with us, and signed shirts and all that. Anyways, they’re super laid back when they’re off camera/stage. One of my best “meeting my heroes”-memories.
Hey Glenn. I‘m wondering what’s going on with the Oldies but baddies contest. I watch your videos on a regular basis so I hope I haven’t missed anything anyway. No one seems to even talk about it anymore. Is it still going?
@@PhylaMedia thanks for the info. I didn’t notice since I’m not part of the discord community. I’m totally fine with the „my contest my rules“ policy and I understand and respect that other content like the recording tutorials are more lucrative but I don’t get why oldies but baddies is totally ignored when it was so close to being finalized.
I feel like all the Pearl hate comes from the fact that so many drummers started on Export and Forum kits and then moved onto different brands, myself included. DW has managed to protect its brand by releasing its budget gear under the PDP badge. There's a lesson for people in marketing, right there. Personally, I give props to brands that will keep their name on their high, and low end gear. It shows the buyers that you're willing to stand by the quality of your product at all price points.
My band Forged by Fire was one of the last bands to play with Steel Panther’s original lineup! We got a last minute call to open up for them in Wichita Kansas, what a great time and great band!
4:06 reminds me of all those people who *swear* they were “just as good a player as Yngwie, back in college”, “I could singer better than Brad Delp”, blah, blah, blah, but they have nothing to show for it, no recordings, no word-of-mouth, no esteem, no career in the industry.
I read when David Gilmour build his own studio, he had some massive pipes put in the ground to deal with any potential grounding issues. Not sure how much use you might get out of that, but i wanted to mention just in case.
@@mackk123 probably to improve the actual circuit grounding in the building. Grounding a circuit literally means connecting it to the ground(earth). If there was a problem with the grounding in the building, that would have been a way to fix it.
Grounding rods for service equipment and isolating circuits helps a ton. If I built a studio I would have several installed. I build server rooms and do av installs as well commercially and the codes for grounding and bonding while tedious make for some really clean jam outs when I'm testing speakers on site and it's good piece of mind for equipment safety.
I have a cable I got with my first bass amp an old Marlboro soundworks back in the mid 80"s it's basically lamp cord, still works. And I've been through several "quality" cables over the years
Great music from the Czech Republic, EDM , electronic and experimental music. I am less familiar with the Czech metal scene, but the quality of music impresses me.
I think it would have been cool if you’d shot the whole demoing process and talked about what you liked and didn’t like about each kit Also, you’re putting too much faith into the people in government actually caring
Hey Glenn, I just read about the recent fallout between Dean and Dimebag’s estate. Having heard from MAB that Dean’s CEO is an asshole who had his nerve to rip MAB off after he left Dean (which in itself biases me), what is your take of the whole “Dean vs Dime” situation and do you think Ola would try to make a bid to acquire the rights to the Dimebag guitar shapes like the Razorback?
re: DJs. I've recorded DJs for 20+ years, across thousands of hours of gigs and internet radio broadcasts; it's super straightforward. Their job is to mix and balance; the good ones understand gain structure (something I didn't really comprehend in my own earlier career). They'll use effects for transitions. You're really just recording the stereo sum of the audio output, and post-production normalisation for intended medium (usually streaming now, used to consider CDs/mixtapes, can be for re-sampling, etc). Just keeping an eye on levels when the DJs forget, or rapid solving electrical glitches during recording gigs. Simple. Was there something more specific you were hoping to record from DJs?
Here's the thing... if you need expensive cables to fix an interference issue in your setup, you have bigger issue you need to solve. And when the real issue is solved, you can rewire the whole thing with cheap stuff without issue. You got a neighbour that likes to pull out a 50 year old electric welder? An ancient fridge or freezer in the garage? Those can cause issues with interference. It'd probably be cheaper (in US/Can) to embed some fine metal mesh into the walls as a Faraday cage, than buy the super expensive cables that won't stop all the crap anyway.
7:30 Thanks for those words. I am pausing my freelance as a sounddesigner for a year or so, so I can work my ass off at my day job for some years, so I can save up to hopefully be financially independent and have my own studio one day. But it's hard to get there, easy to give up now and then, regarding the subject 7:30min. Keep up the good work. (Ain't easy to strive to work in such a business as art, or the makin of it) Cheers 🎶❤️🌞🎵🇸🇪
GLENN! Im 16 and living at home and just bought a dual rectifier.. only problem is i cant really play it loud of course but i cant afford to pay another 500$ for a power attenuator. What do i do? There has to be more people in this situation.
Hey, I had a summer job fibreglass mould making back in the late 90s, it was exhausting, dirty and dangerous. Respect for anyone who does it as a permanent gig, I can totally understand why you'd want to leave! If I tried to do that job now, I'd be dead in ten minutes. When you've worked a 9 hour / day job in a respirator, you tend to have very little patience for people who complain about having to wear a cloth mask for 10 minutes whilst shopping.
As far as cables I went for durability I had a singer who would run around all over the stage and constantly jump up and down on my cable. Once when she was drunk she tripped on the cable got mad and tried to tear it in two bare handed when that did not work she smashed it with the microphone stand. I like the warranty I would get with certain brands and the music store would always get a laugh and asked “ so it just broke huh” they would say. Needless to say we only lasted 18 months I got tired of the singer and her antics last straw was she said the drums attacked her and she tried to destroy them using karate she learned when she was a kid. Me and the drummer left and then the remaining members broke up. Gotta love a great passionate singer in a metal band.
I bought my stereo in 1979 when I hired into General Motors. I bought Yamaha power and Klipsch Heresy speakers and MONSTER speaker cables. So yes Monster cable has been around for quite a while
About the drums being dead or resonant: removing resonances and sustain is a lot easier than adding it. So as a rule-of-thumb I'd purchase a kit with lots of sustain, if you need to buy a compromise kit. Glenn doesn't need a compromise kit, though, so he doesn't need the "objectively best-sounding" kit around.
To touch on the question about adding djing into metal, there's a huge rise in the amount of Metal fused with Drum & Bass, and/or Dubstep (I prefer Drum & Bass personally), and often the only thing a dj is doing in a band (other than scratching - which takes practice) is firing off samples at the correct time, which nowadays are produced into the track in the DAW, and are played live on backing tracks, OR by the keyboard player, or drummer, either using a launchpad, or electronic drum pads :)
Many pro PA companies buy their speaker cable at the local electrical wholesalers, 2 core, 4 core, or 8 core high current rated electrical flex. Usually not figure 8 (lamp cord), as it tends to seperate into individual cores with the heavier use of live systems
After years of watching your show (since 2016) without missing a single episode nor a video you’ve uploaded, it’s time for me to ask my very first question. So I’m from Belgium + an university student. Now, I’ve always been passionated about music and I always wanted to have my musical career... however I decided to go to university just as a backup plan incase my career as a musician didn’t go that well and keeping in mind that having a diploma is still a must in BELGIUM. I really wanna work more as a musician but my student/university life is holding me back. Shall I give up on one and stick with other or any other advice? Thanks for reading my longass comment. You rock 🤘🏻
14:45 this is something I’ve never gotten. Why can’t drummers adapt to a slightly different setup? For what it’s worth, I prefer to reach a bit further when playing the drums because I can get more power and velocity into each stroke… sure you use more energy, but why is that a bad thing? It sounds better, and it feels better!
5:35 Megadeth Announced James Lomenzo as their newest bassist. He played with them before during the Drover years, and i couldn't be happier. Lomenzo was great live back then. i really enjoyed his stage presence and little flairs he put on the ellefsons bass parts. Can't wait to see them with Verbeuren, Lomenzo, and kiko! what a killer lineup.
Hey Glenn I just want to comment on EMG pickups customer service, They fucking rock!! I bought a Harley Benton ex84 with emg 81 and 60, well the emg 81 sounded pretty weak, I emailed them, they told me to send me a picture then said they would replace it. Just fucking awesome! Another reason to love EMG!pickups.
Another late comment, I apologize as I'm trying to catch up on all these videos I missed while taking a break. Another great field to look at is water treatment. We take raw water from whatever source and make it potable. It's usually one of the most cake jobs I've ever had and the job security is definitely top notch, unless somehow humans figure out a way to stop consuming water. And it's a job that you can definitely take anywhere you want to go.
Hey Glen! I'm departing from recording metal a bit and wrote a song on my acoustic guitar, but I'm not sure how I should record it. I want to keep things natural by playing the guitar and singing together in the recording, but having the vocals and guitar in the same track would limit what I can do in production. Any tips for recording this type of thing?
Have you got a couple of mics? The way to go afaik is to have one mic on the guitar and another on the vocals. Sure, there'll be some bleed but it's nothing worse than when recording drums. Just make sure that it's all in phase when it comes to mixing it, and call it a day. The other point is that this will give you a good, natural sounding starting point that you can use as a base for various overdubs if you want to. You'll still have the "raw" sounding core of the song but with some studio magic here and there. If I remember correctly Ryan at Creative Sound Labs has a couple of videos on this topic, you may be interested in having a rummage through his stuff.
Monster was definitely around in the 1980s. I think the instrument and XLR lines showed up in the very late 1980s - 88 or 89. I got a 20 foot Monster instrument cable around that time, and after about a year, the outer jacket had shrunk about a centimeter on both ends. I went back to my ProCo cables and just never bothered with Monster again - and while I've bought MORE cables over the years, I've only had one crap out - and that's now a bunch of 2-foot patch cables.
At Robert Lang Studios, we did a shootout of mogami speaker cable versus a FREAKING OLD EXTENSION POWER CABLE WE CUT UP, and we all blindly voted for the power cable in terms of quality.
I hated my previous job but I moved to another company and am enjoying life a lot better now. If you hate your job I would 100% recommend at least trying to find another one. Best way to increase your income and improve your mental wellbeing
Hey Glenn. I never hear anyone talk about using Combo amps as head units using the line outs on the back of the amp into external cabs. Seems to be something missing from TH-cam that almost never gets covered. I am interested in seeing a video on taking the best combo amps and seeing how they sound through different cabs. I don't know how educational it would be but it would make for a very fun video.
Good idea! My newest combo has an extra extension speaker socket on the back, and the impedance can be switched to match. I've always wanted to try it, but I don't have any extra cabs- nor any guitar playing friends. That would be a video I'd be interested in seeing! Many Fender combo amps also use a 1/4" jack to connect the internal speaker to the amp, so they already have a speaker out you can use. I'd love to hear my amp through a vintagey sounding 10" speaker! (it came with a 12" Celestion V-Type) Or even a 4-10 Bassman cab.
I hear what you're saying about the pros of living in not the coolest places. I was in NYC for 2 years and had no money or time to do anything. Now I'm in a 'boring' suburban area, same job position and have way more time and money to spend on travel, gear, shows, retirement, etc.

So sincerly FU Glen and keep up the awesome work! ...now where is my bong? 🤔
Hey Glenn, I stumbled upon a solid state alternative to 12AX7 tubes called AMT Warm Stone, it doesn't seem to be just a simple transistor but a full blown circuit designed to replicate the behavior of a real tube. AMT discontinued them at some point but it seems they're manufacturing them again (though seems to be available only in Russia at the time of writing this comment). Would be cool to see a set of those vs a set of real 12AX7s in metal context if you're interested in checking them out, since worthwhile tests and reviews are lacking.
@@friedrudibega6384 Yeah, it comes in two variants - aluminium casing that looks like an actual tube and a shrinkwrapped circuitboard, with the only difference being that the one without the casing appears to be half the price. It fits right into the tube slot. As far as I know, AMT shipped a lot of their tube pedals with their 12AX7 substitute.

I started my TH-cam misadventure this past April after slugging my working life in "Logistics". I did one video and got double views I thought would happen and it motivated me. But seeing where some youtubers go I'd be happy with one or two videos just creating some buzz and if I got enough views and subscribers too make the channel self-sustaining. you and a few other channels influenced me too just keep plugging away.
Hey Glenn, do you think you'd be able to an episode on music production on Linux? I think it would be really cool to see what you can do with all the open-source options out there.
Another TH-camr did a video about expensive audio cables. He claimed to hear more mids with the more expensive ones during a blind test. I read the comments and realised how many people are stupid enough to believe an expensive cable sounds better. Don’t buy an expensive eq, just fiddle round with your speaker cables. I’ve also seen a video where they put an expensive cable up against a power wire and when they played both audio files at the same time and flipped the polarity, there was 100% noise cancelation. 🥴
This channel isn’t just for metal heads. Love the content.

As a singer who's been lucky enough to gig and record... That's totally fair. Can confirm.

Well said!
Oh so true! Nothing takes the joy out of a favorite hobby as quickly as trying to make a living at it... Or even as a side line.

Not really into metal but I have always loved your honesty and technical skills. More power to you.
The other difference is tolerance of the connector dimensions and reliability of its connections, but again just cuz it’s cheap doesn’t mean necessarily that it’s unreliable, but some brands absolutely DO make more reliable cables, but you will pay a premium (Mogami branded cables for example)
I really encourage everyone to experiment with *making your own* cables - You can buy Mogami (or other high quality cable from equally good manufactures, do research!) and Neutrik (or Switchcraft etc. reliable brands) connectors and make your own if you learn how to use a soldering iron 👍 This will beat (or at least be on par with) ANY “audiophile” (or “audiofoolery”) category cable out there. Anything where an electical connection is being made you can make your own for cheaper than buying em (especially cheaper than the audiofool stuff..) You can even make your own IEC mains connector cables if you do desire!
When you get around to the video about the new Pearl kit, can you release the multitracks from the demo for us to fuck around with?
Turns out, they've been around since 1978/1979.
i'm glad you acknowledge where the center of the universe is and you don't deny it. I'm in L.A. I can't play multiplayer games.
Thank you very much.

Sadly you Audio Engineers can mostly work in the pandemic, we can just optimize our Workflows and hit hard when out Time has come again.
So sincerly FU Glen and keep up the awesome work!
...now where is my bong? 🤔
Thank You Glenn. And I think you know why, that was awesome.
Would the circuit fit in a pedal?
@@friedrudibega6384 Yeah, it comes in two variants - aluminium casing that looks like an actual tube and a shrinkwrapped circuitboard, with the only difference being that the one without the casing appears to be half the price. It fits right into the tube slot. As far as I know, AMT shipped a lot of their tube pedals with their 12AX7 substitute.
Brate, just use šljivovica
Hey Glenn, Monster Cable has been around since 1979. Cheers and a warm FY from Brazil.
Basically the Andy Sneap forum live. Love these Glenn.
Even a pep talk at the end, sweet.
Hey Glenn I love your show, always a blast to watch! I may have missed it, but have you ever done any vids on recording acoustic guitar?
New Megadeth bassist confirmed, LOL. Bet this is gonna hit Twitter today
Hey Glen, would love to hear a short segment on your favourite production/mixing on records that are non-metal and non-rock, would be a good insight!
I read a thread on GS years ago where a wire coat hanger against audiophile cable couldn't be differentiated in a blind A/B test LOL
Not even that much of a metal head myself, quite a bit more punk really, but I love this channel. Everything you say just makes sense. Thanks alot Glen, keep it up
Ps. I also play bass
Just joined. Totally agree don’t have to be a metal lover to enjoy this channel

I always told my customers to pick up lamp cord for their speaker wire, it is also oxygen free copper. Monster Cable was available in 1986-
Hey Glenn, do you think you'd be able to an episode on music production on Linux? I think it would be really cool to see what you can do with all the open-source options out there.
I was about to ask if you have done any Audio Assault vids... and then you mentioned them for future vids. Lol.
Looking forward to those!
before Alestorm became Alestorm, they recorded a demo as Battleheart with a POD XT. I've heard that just as it came out.
