    there's also the chance that some of the text is written like how military names are written, for example the "UH-60 Black Hawk," or the "B-2 Condor."

      A majority of the translations I've done are similar to that, like a single letter and number. The data pad in this video is one that confuses me the most - but there's also a massive tower that just has the letter "Z"...

      On the lore side, the fact that the Banished presumably switched from the Covenant's Standard Sangheili script to a language system either devised by them or from some older form of Jiralhanae language is actually a super cool detail that imo really helps to distinguish their culture from that of the Covenant in a uniquely grounded way, I hope there proves to be more to it's use.

    Red Nomster back at it again with the text.
    You already know it’s gonna be a good one.
    As for future mysteries.. hmmm… man I don’t know honestly! LOL you keep finding stuff I’d never even think about.
    I’m out here like “Grunt sandwich. Da Xbox. Who were the cavemen in Halo 3?!” and the answer is literally “it’s all memes, dude, wtf??”
    Honestly if you don’t have any current ideas for mysteries, I’d be down just to get your style of video going over a bit of the Halo lore that we know about. Maybe just delving into the history of a particular race and going over little known facts or details hinted at but not confirmed.
    The way you narrate these videos is so encapsulating. I know it suits the mystery style video more but like.. maybe starting off with a similar premise to this video where you share an ingame thing and then explore the reasons behind said thing. Have you ever wondered why the grunts are so hilarious? Let’s explore that mystery. XD I dunno. Whatever you think is fun! Don’t conform to us if you’re not interested.

    • @RedNomster
      @RedNomster  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds fun :) I use the mystery format because it's a more effective and engaging way to educate imo. And I really enjoy writing stories!
      I'll definitely drop lore exploration videos as time goes on but I've got several videos still that are about new or obscure mysteries. Thanks for the feedback brother 🙏

    • @hctaz
      @hctaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RedNomster of course, my guy.
      I think you could totally write lore videos that still *sound* like mystery videos.
      And coming from you? That would be the equivalent to eating a McDonald’s meal except it was made by a famous chef. “I can have a Big Mac.. prepared by GORDON RAMSEY?!”
      So I’m hyped to see your future content in all forms. :)
      But definitely consider it! Even if the answers have been explained, it would still be cool to see you phrase the video like it’s a mystery.
      I feel like you could basically be the Vaatividya for all things Halo content with an emphasis on uncovering new things that we’ve never thought of. And I genuinely think your content is absolutely good enough to where you could realistically be as big.

But the way I see it, even if there was no meaning, perhaps your ‘translation’ would still create a new tool for the devs to use when writing the banished language. Or maybe it is true and the Devs did create a code for us to unravel, either way it’s fun.

    4 months late but do you think the text on the bases could just be some weird banished version of a production or military code or whatever?

    • @RedNomster
      @RedNomster  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It could be some arbitrary labeling system, but it just doesn't make sense that the symbols have full capability of being the Latin alphabet and a decimal number system. The only thing that makes sense to me is that they decided to cut the use of the texture as an actual language, and repurposed the complete system by only using handpicked symbols as arbitrary stamps (to represent military code, rather than actually be military code)

    On the topic of why the translation doesn’t make sense:
    I think you, sadly, might be correct. It’s known that there was a lot of outsourcing done where others would work on various parts of the game for a length of time before leaving the project. I wonder if these texts were written by a potential individual who was very keen on creating a language of some kind only for whoever actually placed the language into the game to not understand their specific ordering OR not think the player base would actually decipher it.
    Looking at the symbols, it’s super obvious to US that it’s relevant. A level designer might just simply not care as much, especially if they weren’t even from the same company as whoever did the textures in the first place. It’s a possibility that the textures were even created by one individual person. I wouldn’t be surprised. :(
    But I hope somebody at 343 sees this video and either realizes the possible mistake OR confirms your translation is wrong. But there’s basically absolutely no way your translation of the numerical symbols is wrong. The second I saw them, it was very apparent. It’s like a combination of the Roman Numeral system and basic tally marks. It isn’t as simple as just lines with the 5 being a diagonal across the previous four, but it doesn’t seem like they have a special symbol for “this value below the next symbol” the way Roman numerals use IV instead of IIII or XL for saying 40 instead of just XXXX.
    So they have unique symbols for 4 and 4 groups of 4 (16) but 3 isn’t notated like 1 before 4 it’s just three ones. 15 isn’t 1 before 16 it’s just a the mark for 4, 4, 4, and 1, 1, 1.
    Hence the combo of both systems.

  • @voltsiano116

    • @RedNomster

      I put 40 originally because, if it *is* a cut off symbol, it's clearly not 38-39 based off the design of the upper lines of 30. We'd be able to see 2 lines not just 1.
      So, either the last symbol is simply unfinished design wise somehow, or it's 40 and cut off. I should've mentioned that the tiny symbol isn't assumed to be a new standalone symbol like 4. I also assume 40 because it's the next possible symbol in the otherwise perfect sequence that it could be, so it has more merit than say, 49

      I've thought about this before but the covenant (sangheili) and forerunners also have symbol languages that DIRECTLY translate to english. To use lore to define how the Banished speak/write is probably counter intuitive in translating symbols like these, as the precedent is that it doesn't generally matter

    The extra symbol should be 64 in base 4. Also I am not sure why you count down on the left hand after passing 15. This numbering system requires 1 hand per place value, so counting over 15 requires 3 hands (or a second brute). If you have actual reasoning for this I would like to hear it.

    • @RedNomster
      @RedNomster  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The extra symbol is not 64.
      It's likely a cut off representation of 38, as the only part we see is a piece that is slanted, traveling from top left to bottom right. As you can see from every other number that isn't cut off, a slanted segment of this nature always represents 1 in value, making it impossible to be any number with a value divisible by 4.
      Also, if you're confused about how I'm counting base 4 over 15 with just two hands, pay attention to my thumb. Before 15, my thumb is containing my un-used finger, after 15, my thumb is contained by my used fingers.
      Now, brutes don't have thumbs, so they likely rotate their hands like I did after 32. For perspective's sake, I used my thumb to represent this, as that's how actual base 4 is counted on a five fingered hand. If you pay attention to the symbols they're compared to, my fingers also correlate with the shape of the symbol if using this method.
      4 = 1 finger up
      12 = 3 fingers up
      20 = 1 finger down
      24 = 2 fingers down
      You don't need a third hand to count base four using this method until ~360 if you only include thumb holds, 90 degree wrist pitch rotations, and 90 degree wrist yaw rotations. But brutes can still can't well over 15 on their thumbless hands because they do in fact have wrists.
      Again, instead of wrapping their thumb with a downed finger, they'd simply rotate their hand like I did at 32, and begin putting fingers down thereafter.

    At the 6.00 minute mark when he's looking up at the sky, there appears to be a structure or ship or something with lights. It's right in the middle of his health bar, right next to the ring. At quick glance it just looks like stars. But when you look closer, there are 3 rows of stars/lights with groups at the top of the screen that are rounded off into a curve. The lines and groups at the top just seem too perfectly lined up to be randomly placed stars in the sky. And it also looks like there is an outline along the edges of it as well. Not sure if anyone else noticed this or not. So I'm not sure if it's just me or if there really is something there. Any thoughts?

    • @RedNomster
      @RedNomster  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They 100% designed a number system, you can't do that by accident - it has mathematically proven patterns.
      As for the letters, it's 10x easier to create a fake English alphabet than it is to create a functional number system. So saying it is unlikely they made a fake alphabet because of time/money/resources is a misplaced assumption - there's proof that they did way more than just an alphabet already
