    Adam and I saw a certain play (near the end of the episode) a little differently. Let's settle this... who is correct? Me and Adam?

    • @jujuchonk
      @jujuchonk ปีที่แล้ว +17

      You both can't be correct!

    • @BornNguyener
      @BornNguyener ปีที่แล้ว +147

      I think it’s definitely normal to find the play unrealistic, but for normal anime watchers we’re used to crazy things happening in shows. The whole point of it is to show Hinata’s trust in Kageyama and Kageyamas incredible skill and gives a starting point for them to evolve in future seasons!!! Also as an avid fan of sports anime in general I do find that Haikyuu is one of the best at showcasing the sport realistically and the freak quick attack is a very minor thing compared to other sports anime. At the end of the day it’s a cartoon and they spice things up for the symbolism and entertainment 😊

    • @cainblood7484
      @cainblood7484 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      @@BornNguyenerTrue in the end it's just s show and things will be exaggerated. I think Adam is taking more of an issue with it because it's been so realistic up til now.

    • @Lil_Paulie
      @Lil_Paulie ปีที่แล้ว +39

      It does seem unrealistic, but as an avid anime watcher and someone who has never played volleyball, I was fine with it and hadn't considered it that way. Things are quite often exaggerated in anime and I didn't have the knowledge required to know better. But now that Adam said it, I feel like he's right.
      It's still AWESOME though.
      EDIT: I think a video of you attempting some closed eye spikes would be a fun experiment!

      @julienr2970 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      I go for the minority, taking Adam's side here. Coz as he said he's agree with Sarah about middle Quick standing with set blablabla BUT luck (very good one) or very unrealistic to "synchronase" that fast & that "often". See the comment about Sekita/Yamauchi (who plays for years) and they take many attemps to get one "freak quick".
      Also as a good French guy I would said freak quick if this show remains me some Brizzard's set to his middle, some to Barthélémy Chinenyeze, Le Goff or even Bultor.
      Althrough also Bruno's one off course to Lucas etc... and ofc many other setter as Sekita, Christensen, ... reminds me that in fact I would go to De Cecco lightning "god mode" set as the more "alike" with Tobio's-chan ;)

  • @TrianaNero
    @TrianaNero ปีที่แล้ว +835

    Adam's take on Kageyama's and Hinata's freak quick feels quite right to me personally - off the top of my head, that's probably the most unrealistic part of Haikyuu (especially among the plays that appear more than once, and with the consistency it ends up having). In the Haikyuu documentary, Yanagida actually backed out of trying it, but Sekita and Yamauchi from Japan's national team agreed to try and recreate the quick (Yamauchi had a blindfold). It took them about 17 minutes to do a perfect one (you can see their attempts and progress in the documentary).
    Furudate, the author of Haikyuu, rather often expressed their concern that, compared to the other series in the magazine, Haikyuu might feel bland or boring - simply due to the fact that it has a very normal everyday setting. So they wanted to incorporate some more "manga"-like elements, such as this borderline unrealistic super-move.
    Furudate also mentioned how the normal "idea" of a spike is having the spiker adjusting to the toss [to an extent, I imagine], and they wanted to try something completely opposite, where the setter would be doing all the adjusting - that's part of where this freak quick came from.

    As a coach himself, I’m curious as to what Adam’s views are on the Kitagawa Daiichi coach’s role. It’s unlikely that the issues between Kageyama and the team would have just happened overnight. I’ve always wondered what were the coaching staff doing as that situation was developing? And if Adam had a student like Kageyama, clearly talented but not connecting with the team, how would he have gone about coaching Kageyama/the team?

    • @roroellies8188
      @roroellies8188 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Yes, this please! After reading the manga, I think the biggest problem was the coach. The coach only benched Kageyama after the team clearly boycotted him, compared to *Spoiler* Ukai, who never been a coach but deal with Kageyama a lot better. That Kitagawa coach also caused a rift between the great king and Kageyama.

    • @jakeDgirl
      @jakeDgirl ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@roroellies8188 Agreed. (manga spoiler to others:)
      In the other flashbacks in the manga, when Kageyama's intensity/egocentricity was gaining steam, Kindaichi & the rest of the team tried to approach the coach for mediation. The coach did nothing until the rest of the players rejected Kageyama in a real-time game instead of during practice. It was not only a rebellion against Kageyama but also against the coach who was not doing his job.

    Even as someone without much volleyball experience, i can confidently say that kageyamas setting is taken to the extreme. But who doesnt love a bit of impossible in fiction to get you excited, to show you the peak of what can even with the slightest chance possibly happen.

    i like Adam's reaction so much! He doesn't hate any character at least up till now. and that's right up my alley. i'm really happy you got him to react to this. Because watching reactions its rare to find someone who doesn't hate a character(well i mean its a human nature of kind to hate someone i guess)

    The genius of the writing for the lightening quick attack is that it theoretically possible, but in practice would be absolutely insane to pull of. “In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.”

    I don't know if Adam will read this, but I'm pretty sure you're spot on with your opinion. I think even the author would say that it's not realistic.
    But please don't get caught up on the little things, and remember that this is still an anime and it will have unrealistic moments, even though it's the most realistic sports anime you can find.
    I just wanted to add that watching it with Sarah was amazing and I learned a lot from her, but I think I might find Adam's opinions more relatable. I think he might end up defending some of the characters that Sarah doesn't love or agree with, and I'm looking forward to that 😏

    this episode really sets the mood for the rest of the anime in terms of what we can expect.
    Kageyama - Genius setter that lost the trust of his spikers and is too skilled for his own good making every teammate fall behind in terms of skills.
    Hinata - Pure kid who in spite of circumstances keeps chasing his dream to be volleyball player even though he is not high enough or never had a team in middle school.
    One never had a teammate that can keep up with him, other never had a setter willing to play with him. Match made in heaven, one would not bloom without the other

    I'm gonna throw this comment in here about the realism of Haikyuu! as a whole. There's a video by Riley McKibbin (himself a setter) talking about how realistic Haikyuu is from a high school volleyball perspective, strongly recommend watching it and maybe Adam+Sarah can react to that too (th-cam.com/video/t-CqjPMZMM4/w-d-xo.html). As for a minus tempo attack (i.e. spiker in the air and swinging as the setter sends it), I've seen those from the Poland national squad in competition (and yes, I know that it's top players from one of the world's consistently top teams), so it's definitely possible. Yes, plot armour plays a part, but an ultra-talented high school setter with enough sadomasochistic practice could probably pull it off.

    yeah i never question logistics and reality in anime HAHAHAHA. i saw the quick and was just like WOW THEYRE JUST LIKE INSANELY GOOD. n that was all that my brain could think about HAHSHDH its not that sarahs credibility is any less because she bought into the quick, i just thought of it as her overlooking it bc it was a great scene

  • @hachi1404
    @hachi1404 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great reaction🥰
    I understand why Sarah feels emotional more as I also faced the fact. When we see an episode first, our brain try to understand the storyline first so it is hard to see every detail accurately. On the second or later view however, brain has an extra space to look more detail around. By the way, in my case, I saw not only volleyball skill but also the characters’ mindset after second view. Hinata’s purity, Kageyama’s passion, Suga’s big maturity, and Tsukishima’s weakness from his high intelligence. Tsukishima (as well as Oikawa) is very smart so he judges things too much from his experience in the early seasons. But as Adam said, no one knows what and how things come next actually.
    Anyway, everybody in Haikyuu is so attractive!!

  • @adoktors643
    @adoktors643 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think a lot of the attacks with closed eyes are also for cinematic enjoyment. I make movies in school, and being able to "visualize" just how good kageyamas and hinatas abilities work together is very difficult. I agree that it might seem unrealistic, but it's great to show their connection by making it seem almost impossible from everyone else to do it. Only the two of them can play like this together - so I think it's more of a character choice than a volleyball one.
    It's going to get more interesting as we get further in the story!
    So excited for more reactions, you both are great! I would beg that you could post two times a week, but it's understandable if you don't have the time! See you next time❤

    The whole story is based around their quick attack. Kageyama is a prodigy who is scarily accurate with sets, and Hinata has no technique but has speed and reflexes. They complete each other perfectly. In sports there are freaks out there that can do incredible things and if they couldn't then the story wouldn't be focused on them. If it was a story about any old volleyball team then the story wouldn't be interesting.

    • @mence5992
      @mence5992 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The freak Quick Is phisically impossible. If the setter and the spiker are distanced more than 1 Meter the toss should travel faster then 100km/h. There Is no setter in the world that could even get close to that Speed. There Is a video of the freak Quick(they did It Two times) on the internet from a japanese team, but the setter Is tossing from half a Meter to the spiker and One of the Two quicks goes to the net.
