I've been extremely frustrated with this disc error problem and now I have a dust-free, working xbox that should last me until the xbox1 is released. (Still gonna keep old xbox elite) The fault was with my Xbox's Laser that needed cleaning. We used contact lens cleaner as we didn't have any hand sanitizer and it worked the same. Thanks again guys.

just finished watching your video.. some helpful points you provided on the clam shell design of the plastic housing of the xbox 360 were useful to me. Now, I will help you with some terminology. the 'spinny thingy that makes the cd/dvd spin round is called a 'SPINDLE MOTOR' the laser assembly sits on 2 rails and is called a 'SLED' or LASER SLED ASSEMBLY. A FAR better cleaning tip is to use ISOPROPLY RUBBING ALCOHOL and a Q tip to clean the LASER LENS, as the toilet paper that you used has a very good chance to leave behind paper debris.... other than that, video was good....

Also, for anyone who had some problems like I did, here's some solutions. Problem 1: I actually broke some plastic pieces on the vent covers because I didn't know how they snapped on. In fact, there are places in the vent cover itself that you can put a screwdriver into and pop the plastic "clamps" out safely. Problem 2:The main plastic cover can be CAREFULLY removed by finding the seven small holes in the back. Pop a flathead in each and push down at a 45 degree angle. This will release them.
I know games arent a big deal but screw that. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!! now i can resume being better than my pals on call of duty black ops II zombies

I replaced the lens, followed these instructions and it still doesn't work :( the lens makes the noise that it's reading the disc, but it stops and "tray error" on the screen like always.

Hey guys, thanks a bunch! I was able to restore my old xbox! Cleaned the whole thing out at the same time, and replaced the rubber band!

No, Torx (Star) and Allen (Hex) have different heads, though the wrenches look similar. The Xbox torn apart in front of me uses Torx.
