    Congratulations Charlie on your flyscreen install. Looks much better than the high screen , which is a bit of overkill considering the average speeds you’ll be riding at. Wind blast probably won’t be an issue most of the time. Good work. Cheers and ride safe, Dan. ✌️🏍🇨🇦

    Great Job Charlie. You did a better job than I did. One note of advice for everyone. The step where you drop the chrome bars with the fly screen attached into the brackets that hold them. Do not over tighten the screws that hold them. I wrenched a little too hard on one and it cracked. You cannot get replacement ones without buying a whole new fly screen kit. For me a little epoxy and a couple washers and it has been holding up well.

    My Supernova also came with the touring windshield installed, amd I think I'm also going to swap for this shorty flyscreen. Luckily the mounting brackets are already installed so it should be an easier swap for me! As a shorter rider at only 5'3", I wonder if I'll feel a wind buffeting difference?? Regardless - I love the look more!

    • @restdayrider
      @restdayrider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, the flyscreen does just look better in my opinion! I did notice a benefit from less wind buffering too, the larger screen seemed to direct it straight into my face.

    You got there in the end. Like you I've taken the large screen off my Supernova as the buffeting was awful. Currently riding it without the screen which is better. Like the look of that fly screen and would be interested to hear the verdict on it when the results are in. 🙂👍

    Worth the effort you put in. Suits the bike. You have amazing patience, normally when i drop anything its followed by a few expletives. I bought a magnetic dish for a few quid, you can stick it to the engine bars or such and place bolts in it that your going to use at the height you want. Its one of those tools that just make life a wee bit simpler. I have bought and built up a small but useful set of tools for my bike maintenance. You should treat yourself to some decent tools and forget the tools that come with the bike. Jobs will be easier and quicker but on the downside you will get less tea

    Not round = hexagonal.

    Nut with black thing = nylock nut.
    Excellent job.
    A tip about a work bench. Get a Black & Decker Workmate. Can be old and scruffy from a scrap heap. All broken plastic parts are cheap on eBay. Cut a piece of plywood/cupboard door a bit wider and longer than the Workmate. Screw a 2x2 block along the middle of it and clamp it into the Workmate.
    Bingo, you have a mobile bench / table that can hang flat on the garage wall.

    For a portable work bench, 'borrow' the Black and Decker Workmate, and G-clamp a flat piece of wood to it (to allow bigger tool carrying surface) with a cloth spread over it. Try not to bump into it when working. 😊

    I bought a Classic 350 a week ago and after doing nearly 600 miles on it I reckon I could do with a screen as well.
    The problem is, there isn't really one that suits it because of the nacelle with the extra side lights in it that surrounds the headlight.
    I've seen ones with the big screen that your Meteor had and they look rediculous.
    It's a bit of a pisser really. I can only hope that someone makes a decent looking aftermarket screen soon.

      @@restdayrider Thanks for the reply but my comment was more aimed towards A-just-able biker or anyone else who might be thinking of changing their screen. It's the cheapest option and you already have the fixings ( if your Bike came with a screen).There are plenty of TH-cam vids of people cutting down their windshields and if you cut down in small 1inch increments you could get the height just right to stop the buffeting.
      Having said that your new screen looks really good so my comment is superfluous to you!😀👍

    Entertaining and informative. Luckily I'm very mechanically minded so I can usually get by with a little bit of chin scratching, but I need four hands. My best advice to anyone is to buy a set of cheap spring clamps from the pound shop to hold things in place while you reach down for tools and parts. If I was touring I'd fit the fly screen, the bigger one just causes buffeting on my face. Currently I'm looking/negotiating for a custom mat black steel one with some posy slots in it, or a similar one to my LFS mutt one. What can I say I'm vain about my bikes. Keep up the great work I look forward to the vids.

    • @restdayrider
      @restdayrider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, I'm hoping this fly screen will be perfect for touring. I found exactly the same with the large screen. I do like the look of the Matt / buffed steel ones I've seen on GT 650s, but the fittings seemed very different and a bit beyond my scope to adapt!

    • @TheArtdecovampire
      @TheArtdecovampire 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@restdayrider Yes the fittings bolt to the headlamp on the 650s rather than the fork top. I have toyed with buying the small screen, and order a blank from LFS and putting the brackets on the blank. Not beyond me by any means, but far exceeds the reach of my wallet. Lol
