Garrus was my favourite character, and i think nearly everyone elses... he is never losing his hope even in the darkest hour. He is always ready to fight for everyones, for the right, sake. And hey, he was goddamn cool as well... I will never forgive myself for letting him die a single time during the suicide mission, even if that wasnt planned.
Unfortunately for me Garrus didn't make it to Mass Effect 3. He died in the Suicide Mission due to the Seeker Swarms, but I will admit in his honor I did make one minor change to Shepard's usual color scheme, I made the stripe blue instead of red. Man was it sad to see him die though.
Alexandru Ionica Liara: Oh no! No! Palavan...! Shepard: We have an old friend down there... James: Holy hell...they’re getting decimated! Priority: Palaven was in my opinion the most well designed level in the entire game. It's one of the few missions where you're fighting in the midst of a major battle and not just conducting a small operation. The atmosphere was fantastic-- Disorganized fighting right on top of you, and the Reapers in the distance. The Reapers attacked a heavily fortified area head on and are fighting tooth and nail to destroy it. All you can do is kill everything in your way and get out with what you need.
Thing I gotta hand to the Turians, they held their own against the reapers for quite a while. The one military you don’t want to mess with. Even if you win, you are getting some scars.
It was great to be reunited with Garrus again. But heartbreaking to see the Turian homeworld be scorched in flames. See that big blaze of orange? Thats where I was born.
1:30 This moment when the shuttle door opens and the battle theme kicks in. OMFG. Until this very instant you've only run, seen the Earth ravaged and overwhelmed, only clashed with a Cerberus strike team and almost lost half of your team. BUT THIS , THIS is the first moment in the game you really start to fight back, the very first second you go on the offensive TO KICK SOME REAPER ASS. And it starts with THIS FUCKIN BADASS THEME. MFG.
When I first saw that skybox, i just stared, speechless. A friend walked by, glancing at my screen, then stopping dead in his tracks. "Is that a fucking *planet*" "...Yeah... I think it is..."
This mission left me speechless. I mean, earth was good but seeing the TURIANS get screwed sideways, espicially right after a fucking Cerberus mech smashed my romance's (Ashley's) face in was jaw-dropping and heart wrenching.
To this day I still wish they had let us visit Palaven after watching from the moon. I was so curious to see their homeworld. The turians after my favorite aliens.
Might sound weird, but the part where you're walking to Victus with Garrus and James was one of my favourite parts of the game. Just talking about how everything is fucked up, and then you see the giant cruiser go down with everyone dying. It was pretty heavy stuff.
Seeing arguably the most advanced military in the galaxy and their homeworld so utterly decimated really makes you realize that you're in for a tough fight, one that might not be winnable. Really sets the tone for the rest of the game.
Thank you so very, very much for uploading this and the rest of the soundtrack. I love all of these songs so much and the quality is great. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Deadlines are for a reason and time and money aren't infinite. This is true for every single developer and publisher out there, not just EA. And like every publisher EA is using it's own money to fund the development. Don't you think they have the right to decide how their money is spent? Wouldn't you do the same thing in their position? From what I heard from actual developers, EA actually gives them lot of freedom as long as they meet the deadlines and deliver what was promised. Usually succesful developers do this, because they know micromanaging things isn't going to end well. Remember that publisher and developer relations are not antagonistic. This is a myth spread by angry gamers who believe everything is simple. Publisher and developer are in a cooperative relationship.
@@Ghal-ht2um Valve would like a word with you. They don't release a game until they know it's perfect. They push deadlines back until the product is ready. Hail Gaben.
Gotta give the Turians credit, though. They managed to hold against the Reapers a lot better than those on Earth, initially. Primitive or not in the Reapers' eyes, they stood their ground.
Is it just me or does the beginning of "The View of Palaven" resemble somewhat the theme for Garrus in Mass Effect 2? ("Mass Effect 2 OST - Garrus" beginning at around 1:10) Would it be possible that Palaven was originally intended to introduce his family/some more story on a longer mission? That surely would've been something memorable. Guess we'll never find out now, damn.
On my first play through when Garrus emerged and Liara said "good to see you" and I saw the reapers I was in shock. Wow the reaper war was actually happening. These games get to you. The feel so real.
I love how this track is like a throwback to the Mass Effect 1 action. I keep thinking Saren whenever I hear this, sounds appropriate when the Reapers get resisted on a planet full of badass Turians.
I wish there was a DLC where you fight on Palaven but this time its not Shepard, its one of the Turian Heirarchy's special forces on a mission to disable enemy reaper destroyers and giving time for both Palaven's straggler army and citizens to escape and regroup. That would be an amazing DLC in my opinion.
You can hear and feel the battle rage on as the Turians, Garrus and Shepard fight for Palaven. Excellent work by the music department. Feel the wrath of Garrus' calibrations!!!
I watched Mad Max Fury Road and its sequences gave me nostalgia because some of the music sounded exactly like this song "A View of Palaven". Damn good feels.
I say this level was more emotional than escaping Earth. Being on Earth, you could see the destruction of the Reapers within the city. But being on Palaven's moon seeing basically half the planet in flames... "See that orange glow, the big one, that's where I used to live"
One of my favorite missions....not only because I freakin' love Garrus Vakarian, the Chuck Norris of Mass Effect....but because you can feel how hard the Turians are fighting. And that Garrus is so bada** , they'll never take his home!!! Plus, this is when I realized the graphics and gameplay were a-freakin'-mazing.
This level should have been like shepard running towards the objective continuously impeded by reapers. One by one they all get headshots, as shepard keeps running thinking someone at the turian base has a great sniper trigger. Reveal, Garrus.
I just realized that this sounds exactly like something you’d hear on the main menu of a Call of Duty game. Which makes a lot of sense, seeing as how turians are a militaristic race.
for some reason this theme and the overall feel of the Palaven moon felt like something out of Terminator, nevermind the undead terminator like reaper infantry swarming you
@sarah0234muse The original and basic meaning of decimate comes from latin decimare and indeed means to kill off 1/10 of the men in a legion as punishment, which is not as substantial as you would think. Only in recent years has this word changed its meaning somewhat to mean devastate, massacre, destroy, kill a large portion (more than 1/10).
The Citadel space strongest military decimated in a matter of hours, how could humanity stand a chance? No matter the odds we will fight you and all the Reapers, Harbinger!
