    In Pangasinan, we use minatamis na langka (jackfruit cooked in light syrup) instead of mango. Most of the vendors in our area also add kaong (sugar palm), sweet corn kernels, gulaman or homemade gelatine, pinipig (toasted and pounded/flattened glutinous rice), sweetened red beans, saba bananas cooked in sweet syrup, and top the whole thing with leche flan (caramel custard) and mashed purple sweet potato. Yum!

    I think it's weird that they serve "halo-halo" at night time there.. I'm a Filipino by the way from Manila. And here, it is served in the afternoon about 2pm to 5pm for afternoon snack (miryenda).. just saying though.. :-D

    That's quite strange because normally halo-halo is eaten during the day especially during summer. Maybe the reason why they are selling it late in the afternoon is for the students who will be able to eat them after school or during dinner time.
    But I'm glad you liked it!

    We have the same thing very similar in Vietnam, we call it "sương sa hột lựu" and there's another version called "chè ba màu". These two have different ingredients from each other. They both have jelly but the first one have "pomegranate seeds" and the latter has beans along with other ingredients

    Local halo-halo sold in the neighborhoods, i've always loved. Yours was missing a few of the ingredients I'm used to (like pinipig (rice flakes), bananas, and sweet beans (which I usually tell the local neighborhood vendor to not include:)), but yours does look great as well!:) Ube ice cream and leche flan are fancier trimmings for halo-halo sold in restaurants:).

    Homemade is the best because you can have most of the ingredients like sweet potato caramelize, ripe banana(saging na saba)caramelized, sweet beans, ube(purple potato mashed lightly sweetened), sticky rice crispies, mango caramelized, nata de coco, jack fruit caramelized, red and green gelatin(pandan leaves to make it aromatic), macapuno(coconut sport, evaporated milk top with ice cream. These is one the best halo halo ingredients.

    ..HALO-HALO means MIX-MIX, so the right way to eat the halo-halo is to mix it very well,combine all the ingredients before u eat it😀.. So glad u enjoy eating your halo-halo, it is much better if it has UBE halaya and leche flan or ice cream on top of it.. And also, halo-halo is more easily to find during summer(to beat the heat), most of the stores in the PH have it.

    The reason why halo-halo is a night time thing is because... it is a refreshment, sweet and relaxing reward for the long day at work... plus it takes a lot of time and effort to cook and prepare the ingredient that it takes almost the whole day to actually finish. It is also because the real traditional halo-halo really has a lot ang I mean a lot of ingredients such as (sweetened makapuno, nata de coco, sweetened beans, sweetened mungo, sweetened garabangios, ube halaya, leche flan, langka, mango, sweetened kaong, sweetened buli, gelatin, sago or tapioka balls, shaved or crushed ice, and evaporated milk, or if you prefer condense milk ) This are the ingredients of a real traditional filippino halo-halo back at the aciant times.... Some just can't get a hold of some of the ingredients or they don't really know what the traditional halo-halo has, or they where just cutting on the expenses so they omitted the expensive ingredients... You see a real traditional halo-halo really has a lot of ingredients, but due to the peoples difference in there preference they end up removing some ingredient or changing the recipe through the course of time, and the difference in regions also play a part on the actual traditional halo-halo ingredient, recipe, and contents.

    There is a dessert like this that is derived from Mexico called a raspado. Though the raspado is made with the shaved ice and you can add different flavored syrups as like vanilla, strawberry, tamarind, lime and you add the condensed milk on top it’s very popular and sold in stands just like this lady’s.

    You should have tried the Halo-Halo in melton's in Barangay Tisa top with the best siomai in cebu,
    Barangay Tisa is the Capital of Siomai in Cebu, also Melton's is one of the best and known Halo-Halo in Cebu

    • @rumblefish9
      @rumblefish9 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Melton's is kinda meh. The best one is Monbis in Labangon. 100% better than Meltons. The only thing I get from Melton's is the ngohiong.

    The small side street stores in Cebu baranggays start serving the Halo-halo at night because it used to be the treat after a hard day's work. The special halo-halo has leche flan and cornflakes topping.

    My man look for Razon's halo halo. I dont know if they have Razon's in cebu city but look for it when you're in manila. Their halo halo is so good if you're not into so much beans.

    • @lionhearted1969
      @lionhearted1969 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cebu has a lot of halo-halo vendors that many of them become institutions themselves like Melton's and Monbi's. Razon's have stores here in Cebu but they're closing some of them. No stores from outside Cebu will hit the Cebuano palate unless it's extraordinary or better than Cebu's own. Cebu market is very different than most other local markets in the Philippines.
