Finally found a good youtube channel on running Quickbooks in NP Organizations. Liked and subscribed. Please keep bringing in more videos of Quickbooks for non-profit org. and slow , deliberate instructions without erratic or too quick (nervous) cursor movements. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I managed to have our nonprofit organization switch over to QuickBooks. Your video is very informative. Thank you so much. I want to request the demo version you have to look through. I want to use it as inspiration for setting up QuickBooks.
Hi Katie! I’m about to take on treasurer duties for a county political party, and I found this video which I just watched. Great intro to QBO for nonprofits. I think I have access to local talent for help. But I may need to reach out to you if they can’t help me. I’m just trying to acquaint myself at this point. I’ll be going in depth with the outgoing treasurer in a couple days, so this video (and others I found) are giving me a great starting point. Best wishes and thank you for making this video!! 👍
Thank you for the video. This helps a lot. Can you please do a video on how you handle the way QuickBooks online automatically moves Net Revenue into Retained Earnings at the end of the fiscal year rather than to the Restricted and Unrestricted accounts. Thanks.
Thank you for being a transparent professional. I am a new bookkeeper and will be assisting my friend with her nonprofit bkpg. I may use your consulting services.
Hi @caredfor! We would love to be a resource for you, and we have a nonprofit specialist on staff as well. Nonprofit bookkeeping is so unique, and a lot of fun!
Hi Brad! Great question! When you go through the questionnaire pick nonprofit in QBO and it will set it up accordingly. So, it exists, but they don’t tell you it does in a way.
Hi, I am just a mom who was the only one left to volunteer to be a treaurer for our nonprofit. I'm nervous because I am new and unfamiliar with quickbooks. Although we are up to date with reconciliations, there are a lot of (I think) uncleared charges that may be duplicate entires or just....uncleared. How do I handle those charges and clean up our quickbooks account? I've found several videos but all of them are teaching regular business accounts.
Hello!! If you set up a call with me I am happy to give you a free consultation. It sounds like you are probably right. The reconciliation process is basically the same. Differences really come into play around accounts and reporting. My email is kbunschoten@certumsolutions.com. You need to be careful around correcting them if they hit closed periods.
I will be taking over certain treasurer responsibilities at our church and they use QB Premium Plus Non Profit Edition 2022. I will be using a Mac and am looking at using the QB Online Non Profit. You noted you are using a Mac. How do you interface with QB online? Thanks,
Hi Leroy, QB Online works on Mac well. I use Safari, but sometimes have to go to Chrome Incognito if it’s messing with me. There is a desktop app for QB Online as well, and I think it works on Mac.
@@CertumSolutions Thanks! Since I don't have any experience with QB, I have a learning curve ahead of me, so It's six of one right now. Basically, I just use my web-browser to interface with QB Online, right? I take over in January and until then our current treasurer is using the desktop program on the current subscription. Is it possible to set up a test of QB Online with our data so I can familiarize myself before purchasing the subscription and going with the Online program? I am meeting with our current treasurer - shadowing her - as she runs payroll, reports, etc.. BTW, my goto web browser is Firefox. Any experience using it to go online? Thanks!
Can different funds be set up on the NFP version? I am on the board of a religious organization and dealing with people with no accounting experience. I a retired accountant. Some donations and grants come in to be used for a specific purpose and the only thing I know to do is set us a fund with its own BS and I/S and track the disbursements and receipts for each. All accounts will tally on the consolidated statements. I have some prior experience with my church years ago that used a fairly popular church software that was relatively comprehensive. We had all the ministries in their own fund which raised their own donations for their activities. The organization to which I am currently on the board uses Quickbooks but I don't now how to use it. I'm on the board and do not get involved with the day to day stuff. The staff there is learning Quickbooks but don't know accounting. Long question I know. Does Quickbooks do this?
Thanks for nice video. I am moving from Quickbooks Desktop to Quickbooks Online. In Quickbooks Desktop I used 'Other names' quite a bit. I don't have that option in QBO. Customer has become donor. What do I use for 'beneficiary', or patient or client. We pay money to parties that are not 'vendors'. We are into primary heath care Any suggestions?
Hello! You can look under the settings in the top right and change the terminology for clients. That being said, you don’t have “other names” in QBO. You will need to pick the closest related list type.
@@CertumSolutions Yes, I have seen that. However, most of the guides for nonprofit QBO recommends, changing customer to donor. I am just looking for another field to choose for the beneficiaries, that is funds paid by the organization to the beneficiaries of the services. I am still trying to figure it out.
@@daneshananda they may not be vendors, but I would need to know more about the relationship to answer well. Maybe it could be a vendor group with sub-vendors? Unfortunately, QBO is still a little limited here. I’ll check with our nonprofit expert to see if she has other recommendations.
Hi Helen, I did the demo using our in-house test sandbox. If you schedule a Q and A with our team they can demo the sample. Thank you for the lovely question! Email help at certumsolutions.com
I'm struggling to find where I signup/purchase the Online version for Nonprofit that you demo in this video. I only see Online for small business/for profit. Where do I go please?
Hi Beth, you can use this link for our discount and select industry “nonprofit” when going through the setup interview. Let me know if that doesn’t work! quickbooks.intuit.com/partners/irp/qbo/?cid=irp-4499
Hi. Currently my non-profit company has been using QuickBook plus. Do you think its worth it to change to QuickBooks Online (non-profit)? Overall I don't see much difference in terms of features. And I would like to know if this version of Quickbook is available internationally?
That’s a great question! It turns to nonprofit depending on the company type you select in the beginning. If you call I think there is a way they can change it on the backend but I’m not 100%. You can work around by creating custom reports with the appropriate titles but it won’t be perfect. It just depends on your reporting needs and how you need them laid out. You are right, the back end calculations are pretty identical.
@@CertumSolutions I understand. Right now I realized that QuickBooks Online Plus is sufficient enough for my company since its suitable to our budget. Thank you for your insightful video.

Thanks Katie, I appreciate the nonprofit overview. I am a bit unclear on how to handle fund or grant accounting. Would you use categories or projects?
It depends. Most nonprofits use Classes, but I’m sure depending on your structure other tools would be as effective or preferable.
great video Katie! Question: what QBO version for NFP is this? Everything I see says the NFP QB version is only for Desktop??
