I'm really interested in how the idea of the "triple bottom line" works from an investor perspective. If companies are to be serious about pursuing the triple bottom line, it seems to me that their investors need to be on board with that, and to be prepared to sacrifice a certain amount of growth/dividend income, because in this model the company exists not only to create shareholder value but to benefit other stakeholders. I wonder whether there is an appetite for this from investors, and whether that appetite might grow in the future? I know there's been a rise of ethical investment funds in recent years but they're still in a minority, and it seems to me that so long as investors expect growth/income at all costs, companies pursuing a triple bottom line will struggle to attract the same levels of investment as their less ethical competitors. I'm curious to hear if anyone else has any thoughts about this!
