I "overlanded" back to Alaska in 1982 when, with the exception of around Whitehorse, the road was gravel. Forget cell coverage back then, cell phones were not a thing, but there was no Sirius Radio, so I only picked up a radio station near Whitehorse. Back then you picked up hitch hikers, and there were more than a couple I picked up rolling flat tires down the road. I never got a flat, but I had the heaviest duty tires you could get for a truck back then (plus I carried two spares), and I did not even get a chip on my windshield either up or back, which I learned was a rare thing. I had a blast. As for the bear spray, you might want to get it in Canada or once you get to Alaska, Canadian Customs will not let you bring it in.

I overlanded to AK before overlanding was a thang back in 1998. I drove a 1995 Saturn pulling a homemade trailer from Chama, NM to Fairbanks, AK. Loved it! Had to turn off the Ac when climbing the hills. Drove back a few years later. Camped at all the KOA’s along the way. I dream of the way you guys explained it here. Taking the ferry would be so interesting.

It's hilarious to hear about difficult pothole-filled roads on an Overland channel. Huh?
