What Area Virtual Links?
All areas in an OSPF autonomous system must be physically connected to the backbone area (area 0). In some scenarios where this physical connection is not possible, you can use a virtual link to connect to the backbone through a non-backbone area.

Hello Inge. Why you do not recommend to use VL permanently?
Hello!
Virtual links in OSPF are typically considered temporary solutions due to their potential for suboptimal routing, network instability, and increased maintenance complexity when compared to physical connections.
i hope the next is NSSA :)
Hi Nikola!!!
NSSA and Stub areas are coming in soon
Hola Wilmer depronto tienes este mismo video en español
Well first very thanksful for your informative and amazing video..!
Second Is it necessary to create interface template for loopback in order to virtual link work..? Why you create interface template for loobback..?
Hello Ali, thank you. It's not required to exchange the Loopback IP. If you are planning on implementing MPLS, then it would be a good idea to advertise it.
does virtual-link works on network type=broadcast only?
Hi Nikola,
The network type on the virtual link is "Virtual Link", it's completely independent of the rest of links inside the transit area. Virtual Links don't work on Stub Areas (I will explain Stub and NSSA in one of the upcoming videos)
@@TheNetworkTrip im not saying that, what im saying is i cant make it work on ptp or ptmp
Hi Nikola,
There are no special requirements other than adding the interface templates on 2 ABRs; one, connected to the backbone; the second one, to the non-contiguous area. If all the adjacencies are established inside the transit area the virtual links should come up.
@@TheNetworkTrip Thanks a lot for everything you do
