about 2 months ago, one of the managers at a dollar store was speaking with corporate and, from what I overheard he was not happy. Shortly after his conversation I nonchalantly said: "sounded like a heated conversation". He shared with me that there's gonna be some changes and he was wondering "where is corporates head at...up their butts??? He also mentioned that there's gonna be changes. Yup...there's "changes". My favorite coffee flavoring is no longer sold. The coffee they were selling is no longer there and replaced with - i think - 4 oz of Jack Daniels Coffee. Many of their seasonings are no longer there and I did happen to notice that 19 dollar box fan as I was walking out empty handed... Remember 5 below??? Well it's now 5 and up! Shame shame shame...

I think they are taking items that were sold at Family Dollar and because they have closed so many of the Family Dollar stores, they are now plugging those items into the Dollar Tree stores. I read past week that since Family Dollar is closing stores, Dollar Tree would take some items. IMO, $ tree could sell the fans for $12, still make a profit, maybe even $10 each. Most of U.S. having heatwave, with food prices still high, etc., selling the fans cheaper would get them out faster to those who are in need. Think I'll pass this on to $ tree.

  • @user-tq8jo7oh2n
    @user-tq8jo7oh2n 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

They've closed a lot of their Family Dollar stores. I suspect the higher priced items are inventory from those stores. However, if they sell, it does open the door for DT to add higher priced inventory.
I think they had one foot over the shark when they increased their prices to 1.25. At a dollar, I bought often without really tallying the cost. 🙂 At a 1.25, I started watching my purchases a little more carefully. I suspect I'm not alone in my buying behaviors. If so, it means DT lost sales volume and I doubt that extra .25 made up for it.
I absolutely refuse to purchase anything from their DT+ section and if they raise their prices to 1.50, I'm done with them completely. I'm still peeved because my local DT had a great craft section. When they added the DT+ section, they reduced the craft section to about 1/3 of what it was. No more yarn for my crochet projects among other things. :-(
It saddens me because now that I'm a disabled senior living on a fixed income, I relied on DT for some purchases that fit within my shopping budget.

@@user-tq8jo7oh2n I think you’re 100% correct. We know the family dollars are going away and that will give them makes excuse that they need to have a bandwidth of prices. I don’t see them changing their name they can come out and say money grows on trees, even though we all know that it doesn’t. And for you folks on the West Coast, not only are you fighting the higher prices but you’re also it appears that your stores are struggling for inventory as they dollar tree tries to split up the inventory for the new 100 stores that they bought from the 99 and when it went out of business, yes schools up and some of the stores have started the very basics of Halloween, but most of the stores that I see and most of the videos have isles that are completely empty. Empty isles are not gonna bring people into the store. In fact, it’s a guarantee that they won’t come into the store. I’m sure they believe they have a master plan. But they have to remember that the people who put them on the map vote with their wallet and go someplace else..

I agree! The day I heard Dollar Tree prices were going up to $1.25 and introducing $3 to $5 items I said they are just another Dollar General store. I loved shopping at Dollar Tree, but along with the price hike their merchandise quality has declined (if that was even possible). I have items I spent $1 on that I purchased for $1.25 and you can see and feel the quality difference.

I'm in Calif. Until recently we HAD a chain of stores called the 99 Cent Stores. The original stores sold NOTHING over 99 cents. I've shopped them since the 80's when they first opened. In fact I shopped the 1st flagship store...awesome place fantastic merchandise. Than the original owner sold the chain. I remember reading a article about the new owners and he actually said he didn't want to be a "dollar store" his vision was to be like a Walmart. My 1st thought was if I wanted a Walmart experience I'd shop Walmart and pay Walmart prices. My 2nd thought was prices are going to rise and they did. Flash forward, a couple of months ago without warning the owner announced due to the minimum wage increase, rampant theft ect. ect. blah blah blah he was closing the chain immediately and just like that they're gone. Truth be told, 99 Cent Store prices were comparable to regular grocery store prices. There was still some merchandise priced at 99 cents but most was not. I saw the decline in shoppers immediately and that happened years before wage increases and theft issues. What Dollar Tree is doing is exactly what 99 Cent Stores did. Bottom line is greed and just like the 99CS, it will be their demise.

I think you are spot on about testing the waters. I think this may be the reason quite a few businesses have significantly upped prices on items over the past six months especially. The only answer I think is for people to simply stop buying (when possible) items that no longer reflect their actual value. You can get fans in a lot of places and at a lot of price points. This was a silly move by whoever made this decision. I hope they correct course. 😢

Dollar store stopped being dollar store because everyone accepted the raised prices and still kept buying. Grocery stores raise their prices cause people accept them and keep buying because they have no other options. Consumers used to have options to go to other stores but now that giant corporations are owning all the various stores under umbrellas everywhere charges the same pricing and you can’t get any deals anywhere.

I was born in 1957 and I've never heard the term "jumping the shark". I even watched Happy Days, although the jumping the shark episode isn't even vaguely familiar, so perhaps I stopped watching because I knew they were contemplating jumping the shark 😁 Just goes to show that we can learn something new everyday! 👍🏼 I had no problem with Dollar Tree upping their prices to $1.25 (even $1.50 is acceptable to me); inflation happens and they need to make a profit. With so many other discount stores going under, I'm even fine with them offering $3 $5 and $7 items; but I agree, taking things into the double-digits is a bad idea. There are enough other places to shop to get those type of items. I know that changing their name would be costly, but if they're not going to change the name, then they need to stay is the lower-cost section of sales. Thanks for your video, Sherry. Blessings from Carson City NV 💛🌻
EDIT: so I was reading more of your comments and I understand what folks are saying, however, there are still $1.25 items to buy; you don't HAVE to buy the higher-priced items there; go to Big Lots or Walmart, etc. Those on a "fixed-income" (aren't we all, really?) can still get low-priced items at Dollar Tree just like before. Having a fan for $19 doesn't mean one on SSI can no longer buy what they've been buying all along. Dollar Tree is a business, and businesses need to make a profit; it's just a fact. Even if they are testing the waters, they are just doing what businesses do. If you don't like it, you don't have to shop there. Fair-and-balanced thinking...let's be realistic.

Concentrate on bringing in those special items that keep shoppers coming back to hunt for treasure. Like $19 namebrand puzzles that sell for $1.25. Don't try to break into a market that is already taken. Also, get rid of the packaging with the price on it. This looks tacky if you want to make a gift basket and "cheapens" the look of your products. Just my humble opinion.

It’s ridiculous. I use to be able to find a bargain at Goodwill, those days are gone where I live especially since resellers are now making are buying up good deals and reselling those items on social media platforms like Tic tock or TH-cam. These resellers can purchase the good stuff during the weekdays when a lot of people are at work and leaving the lesser quality items for the rest of us. They have also jumped on the higher price bandwagon because a lot of us can’t afford new retail prices because of inflation. The quality of goodwill’s merchandise has also taken a gigantic crash. Items that normally would have been tossed in the trash is making its way onto the shelves . I have sent texts to their corporate headquarters numerous times, but my concerns have fallen on deaf ears. I pray that the new regime that takes over in January will change the current policies. Thank you for taking a stand for those who want to see changes made.

I am in Canada and I can’t shop at dollar stores anymore. The last 3 years now prices went to $5-$8 average and now u will see $15 items. The prices start at $1.50-$$2.50 for candybars…. The supplies are limited. I think its better to hit a thrift store at this point. The craft, beauty, floral, kitchen, utility, school sections are terrible. Seasonal is the pits. I used to find all sorts of things to craft with and now, forget it. Its like they do not know how to order anymore, or all supplies are hoarded by Temu and Wish.
Michaels is empty too. They never restocked since c19 and items are old. Canadians are struggling to get supplies but we see Europe shops are stocked. Sigh.At least USA dollar stores seem to be stocked. We still have shortages even in foods. They triple products on shelves but we notice.

From what I'm seeing it does not appear true "dollar" stores will be around much longer. They are slowly all morphing into "bargain" stores and will all eventually rebrand. I'm always looking for a bargain, but there are some things where I am willing to spend more, such as anything electrical. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Love your channel Ms. Sherry! You're right. Businesses having been doing it since the pandemic. As long as customers buy those items at the higher prices they will not lower them, but instead continue to increase them because they feel the customers are willing to pay the price. With that said, what really surprised me when I worked as a cashier for Dollar Tree was how so many people used it as their local grocery store. Also, Family Dollar/Dollar Tree are owned by the same company. I kind of figured it was going to be a matter of time before they started incorporating the higher priced items into the Dollar Tree. I guess it's finally coming to that. What I don't understand is why they're not informing their customers directly of the price changes.

My husband does most of the meat shopping in the family. His motto for these high prices is, "I will let it rot on the shelf before I pay that price."
