    This branch would be perfect for a rapid transit rail system in Belfast similar to the DART.

    Imagine if NI had a NI Bus pass for £500 per year and, a Rail & Buss pass for £1000 per year along with Buses working along with the Trains by Buses waiting for the Trains to arrive before the Bus goes moreover, it works well in the Netherlands .
    When i look at how little Freight is carried on the NI and Eire Railways is a shame as there is real potential for reinstating at least 40% of the Rail Ireland once had and this will help reduce the number of Car journey’s .

    Interesting video; I live in California in the United States, in your talk about the Glenavy Station instead of building just a single rail platform for the side of the station that could form a park and ride lot. Build a center platform between the lines allowing for people to use both sides of a station. That's merely an opinion, but if the area of Glenavy is growing as you state? Having a station that serves two rail lines instead of a single rail line is more beneficial!

      I guess I'm far too used to most of our railway stations having a platform either side haha

    Great video.
    I wouldn’t build an underpass for pedestrians though. They generally end up in a bad state and they’re not nice to use. I think just tighten the junction and add pedestrian lights.

      That is a possibility, but the road if about 20 feet higher and that would mean having to ramp up to the same level as the road which could hinder the mobility of disabled or elderly people

    The 2021 census shows population increases in the towns mentioned in the video.
    The M1 is a nightmare in the morning Belfast direction.

    Good vid. Brookemount is a stones throw from Lisburn West, can't see what benefit there is to having it.

      Brookmount is more of a 'bonus' station, not one of the main suggestions. So basically if there's any necessity to have it then do so.

    Wisbech is pronounced "Wis-beach", just FYI
    As for operation of the line. aside from the once every 30 Minutes shuttle, an Antrim - BFS - Lisburn - Great Victoria Street fast service might be a good idea too. If that isn't possible, then at least have the Enterprise stop at Lisburn.

      Ah that's embarrassing, because I actually googled the pronunciation before recording and clearly forgot how to say it hahaha
      And well logically this would take until post 2025 to complete so it would be to Grand Central Station by that point, but yes a service into Belfast from Antrim would also be possible, however that service would be better reserved for peak times as to not disrupt the 30 minute service from Belfast to Portadown.

      I was thinking, the shuttle as the local train, skipping the airport and the fast Antrim train as a sort of "Airport Express". You might also want to look into extending said service to Coleraine maybe. Oh, and could you make a video on reopening Portstewart station on the Coleraine line. The railway gets very close to the town but the station that was once there was closed in the 60's.

      @@RunawayTrain2502 I have been riding on the idea of the line being operated that way, although time will tell which is more beneficial.
      Also I have thought about the possibility of reopening Cromore Station, the only issue is that without it being within walking distance to the town, it wouldn't be much of use to locals.

      @@fundthenine There is a bus stop (Black Bridge on line 140c) right by the station side and there's room for some sort of P+R, Station Road also has a pavement beside it to the station.
      And I meant extending the Lisburn - Antrim service to Portrush

      Obviously a return on this investment would be a long shot, but it's mostly about connecting NI to the airport via rail, something that would definitely pay for itself sooner than later

      @@fundthenine you're on the right track though, excuse the pun. The line would turn profitable relatively quickly, if built with government backing, through induced growth and development, and the taxatrion that flows fromthat. Even a small halt like Brookemount could easily spur some development of housing around a regular rail link as seen the world over.
      Infrastructure projects like the knockmore/airport line or the NW rail corridor only need to jusity the potential service levels/benefits to the public and rigorous cost/feasibility analysis, rather than a one-dimensional benefit like profit from projected ticket sales - in itself often a low ball figure with ridership increasing disproportionately with expansion of infrastructure (see all car-support infrastructure development in the last century). The DART in the Dublin metro area being a great example of people flocking back to rail over car travel.
      Keep up the great work championing rail/public transit infrastructure in Ulster!

      An Alliance MLA recently revealed that he has secured commitment from Translink for them to undertake a feasibility study into reopening this railway line so that's a major development.
      Assuming they factor in the potential of a railway station at the airport I can see that feasibility study showing up green as grass. Plus 300,000 people live in the Antrim & Lisburn boroughs so there's already a hug population potential in the immediate area.

    I do realise ye have to have some background footage..but why, other than the lady, those two DUP-ers only. There are non DUP people interested in rail transport eg minister Ms Mallon (tho she since has recently lost her seat)..

      Because it was the BBC News special that was aired to announce the Knockmore Line's closure. The footage was chosen on that fact alone and the people that are featured in it are irrelevant.

    Upgrading The Derry line and Newry Line would be much more beneficial than a new line to connect 20k people

      But both are doable at the same time? It's not just about reconnecting 20,000 people but it's also about giving people a way to travel to Lisburn and beyond directly without having to detour to Belfast.
      Plus with an BFS Station it would mean anyone from anywhere in the country would be able to get to the International Airport far easier than you currently can, and this would help drive up the amount of people that use BFS too.

      @@nitrainspotter7622 it has the potential nowadays as there is a huge increase in population in central belfast also it’ll open so many job opportunities in all sectors. The airport will have the opportunity to expand (which it has many plans for ie new airlines new routes and renovating terminal building)
      The surrounding towns are also getting bigger and more population and need better links to other cities and towns. Overall it would mostly help the airport but also a lot to the towns.
      Over time it would make its money back and in fact make much more for the cost of the construction.

    The biggest load of crap i’ve watched in a long time. When the line was in operation, it was never profitable. Trains stopping at Ballinderry, Glenavy or Crumlin rarely picked up more than half a dozen passengers. The only time the trains were packed was when passengers were travelling beyond Antrim. You’ve no case for reopening the line, just a lot of arguments. I think you would be better off sticking to playing trains with your Tri-ang Hornby train set.

      It most likely would not make a profit. Railways never do.
      But then again, neither do motorways. They both need to be funded with tax money.

      That's because it was ran on an hourly service, higher frequency means you are inducing demand. Plus an airport railway station would by far help push those passenger numbers up by a considerable amount.

      @Paul Scales The case for restoring it has been there all along. With a station at the International Airport the line would more than pay for itself. Political support is all we need, well that and for the people to use their voice and clal on the government to work on reopening it.
