Your previous videos on Freeform made me want to use the app, but I didn’t feel like I had a reason to.
THIS video right here was the perfect catalyst to help me find ways to use it, so thank you! Your coverage on it shows just how robust it is, making more people want to use it, so this app is only going to get better (and hopefully include your fountain pen down the line ☺️)

If you don't have a new, top of the line iPad Pro (or a computer) I wouldn't bother
I have a 5th gen iPad air and while the app is great under many points of view, it just runs horribly on my device. My iPad just heats up incredibly fast and has the battery basically eaten away (probably due to the cpu maxing out) plus the enormous input lag of the 2nd gen apple pencil renders any writing impractical, unless you are willing to write very slowly
And that's without running any apps in the background, of course
I was so excited to use it to study but I guess I'll have to either be patient or switch app entirely

6:52 Hi Chris, great video! FWIW I find the fastest way to create a joined curved line between two shapes is to select them both (drag or tap and hold each) and then add the curved line from the menu. Fewer taps than the approach here of duplicating and connecting both ends

Freeform is a godsent for ppl with ADHD like me, because we suffer from this "out of sight, out of mind" state of our brain and freeform or any other whiteboard app in that matter have everything at the one place and naturally support "connecting the dots" which we are so good at🙂

I needed this! Great tips and ideas. Wish the mid mapping could move all branches as one by moving the source sticky, if that makes sense.
Other wishes (in case anyone has work arounds):
    -ruler tool
-draw a shape and have it snap into that shape.
    -yes that pen too!
-link to an apple note!!! (You can link to pages etc but not notes. Then it would be a central product management.
    Thanks again

Wow! This was some great info and tips. I was sharing YT Shorts to my Notes and they were predominantly things that brought me joy or laughs that I wanted to save or share later. No real structure, just a happy board. Then you show the Note gears for more organization. Oh man!!! The one feature i want in Freeform from Notes with the Pencil is the draw arrow/line/shape snap function. I still find myself doing that in Freeform and it's annoying.

Yes, please thoroughly test the collaboration feature in the next video. The syncing has not been up to par when collaborating. Example: iPad to iPad with a friend; if I handwrite a sentence, it doesn't properly sync some letters, so if I write "Hello there", my friend may only receive "H l o th r ". Same with other edits, they don't always show up. Make sure you try handwriting and making edits on one device in Freeform while the second device is not currently in the app, just so you can see if the second device will sync properly after returning to the collab board.

You can also do the same with pdfs that you did with slides. Sure, you can import a pdf into the app, however did you know that you can grab and pull out a specific pages(s) and copy them out separately into Freeform. I have several reference pdf pages that I frequently use. I zoom in to read them or zoom out to move the pages around, just as if they are physical copies on my desk. Amazing feature that I haven’t seen covered in any videos.

How does one go about separating out single pages from a pdf into Freeform? This sounds like a very helpful feature.

    • @TwiddleVondu
      @TwiddleVondu ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@genericuser7319 It’s actually very easy. Once you import a pdf into Freeform, you tap on it and use the eye icon to open it. You should see the pages of the pdf down the side that you can jump to. Just tap and hold the page you want. This will bring up a pop up where you can copy it. Tap Done in upper right to exit out of the pdf. Then tap and hold anywhere in Freeform on a blank area and the Paste option will show. You can then paste the page of the pdf. Expand it to whatever size you need and move it around. It’s an awesome feature! I hope this helps?

It would be great to add a Freeform board to a calendar appointment, to a note, a reminder, or be in calendar and add a link to a Freeform board and not just the “add attachment option”. It’s these kind of features that really speed up workflows.

These Freeform videos have been very helpful, thank you! I’m an idea person, so I’ve really dived into using the app and love it, but I’m running into one big issue. If I want to do some writing, I can insert it in Freeform from a storage location. I choose a file (in this example, I’m inserting a Pages document from iCloud) and a tile of the document is placed on the board. If I want to make changes to that document in Pages, that tile in Freeform is just opening a copy. It’s not syncing up with the original/revised document. I’ve played and played with it, so I’m thinking it’s not a functionality. I’m thinking I’m going to have to use another app or platform where my writing documents create a URL I can then paste into Freeform, but I would like it to be an iOS app and free if possible. Any insights to this would be very appreciated! Thanks!

For those who don’t have mind mapping software, it’s useful. However, if you do already have mind mapping software (MMS), it sucks! Why? Because MMS automates connections which is the biggest, most time-consuming task within “idea-creating software”.
That point could be addressed by Apple to some extent in their next version.

Great video - I'm new to Freeform and love it, but with flowcharts, I can't figure out how to create a T intersection, like on a family tree, but using the awesome sticky connectors - so one box shape has a connector coming out the bottom, but I want that to then split & connect to three boxes one level down. I cannot figure out how to split one line out to join three other box shapes. Every video I've seen on Freeform shows one box shape with one line connecting it to another box - The only way I can see is to have three separate lines coming out of the one box - one line to each of the offspring boxes, but it looks messy.

I know this is not Figma, but I really miss having the ability to check the distance between elements, in Figma when a element is selected, holding option key and hovering over other elements give you the distance between those elements. I know freeform has great distance and size guides but I need precision, let's hope they add this. Great job as ususal

I love that you do good tips and tricks videos. But can you please do one on mastering notifications??? Everyone doing apps and stuff. But notifications on Apple devices are getting out of control and I’m so tired of it. Would love to see what ‘next level’ people do to wrangle their notifications….. pls pls.
