Slim, all of us on the east coast were glad to have you visit and are excited that you wish to return. We thank you for your kind words and for including our folklore and unique features that make our area special. We wish you a safe return and may there not be many repairs for you. We also hope that your cabin is safe and without any issues. Like us it is awaiting your return. Safe travels!
Sell it, baby!! You did a great job on the song! Good voice. Slim, this was such an enjoyable video, as always. Glad you came to the east coast. Hate to see you leave. But, alas! All good things must end! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
I absolutely enjoyed this video, I enjoy each and every one of them. A couple of videos ago when you was driving I could hear that wheel bearing beginning to GROWL , I had a Jeep and had to replace both front bearing/ hubs. I am glad that you are back home safe and sound and I really look forward to your up coming videos. Oh I thought that you did a good job with your John Henry song! Thank you for taking us along Slim, this was very enjoyable. 👍
Great to see you visit WV. I am from the New River Gorge area (town of Oak Hill). I hope you enjoyed your stay, and it's so cool to see so many people excited to visit there now it's a National Park. Thurmond is a place I have visited a lot of times growing up. It was featured in the 1987 film Matewan (staring James Earl Jones). Look it up if you can find it.
Best thing about west "by god" Virginia is seeing it in your rear view mirror. Was army and stationed in Fairmont as a recruiter. Lived in idamay. Def an overseas tour.
Love this! The NRG is my home - was raised a few miles from the Bridge. So excited that you got to experience my home. We use the Army camp - that's cool you stayed there too. I don't know if it's well known that John Henry is a WV folktale. Oh and in (most of) WV it's Appa-LATCH-a. My 3rd grade teacher taught us this: "Say it appa-LATCH-a or I'll throw an apple at ya." Come back soon! The Eastern part of the state is really cool too (Greenbrier River, Snowshoe Mountain, Cass Scenic Railroad, Greenbank Observatory).
I thought I saw you crossing the big bridge a while back. Take it from a native. A damp, rainy, dreary day in West Virginia is better than a beautiful day in most other places. C'mon back any time. We're glad to have ya!
A wonderful thing about your video's is that you allow for "mind expansion"..... Hearing that big diesel train and its horn took me to imagining that same station and the use of steam power.... I imagined hearing the rich smooth sound of an old steam whistle as the sound bounced between the mountains... Your video's are always amazing.... Imagine the haunting sound of an old steam train moving slowly through that train station area.... the chug of the steam engines.... the clank and clatter of the rails.....and the haunting sound of those old beautiful steam whistles that have a sound all their own....
Another epic road trip ends. By the way the Canadian comedy band "The Arrogant Worms" has a funny parody of the Steel Driving Man song which is quite humorous.
Wonder Slim, this is where I reside WvirginIa. I’ve traveled like you in my RV and the mountains of WV have kept me here now for some time. It’s beautiful
The writing, editing, and framing of these shots... great quality and enjoyable. Makes WV look like an adventure on the frontier. There was a moment where you showed a building with pulleys attached to it. I was squinting trying to see what those were, and sure enough you cut to a close up. Perfect.
Slim, I noticed you had the camera outside for the morning transition shot when you left. Very nicely done! I'm looking forward to your repair videos! Safe journeys friend.
I've been to WV a couple times (my grandfather was from Morgantown). I love the hills and roads! About 15y ago i went as a kid and saw the most insane amount of fireflies. There were thousands everywhere, it was such a cool trip!
I've been here 57 years. My husband and I are born and raised here.Welcome Slim!!! I hope you got some good weather while you were here. I'm glad you gave a wonderful history video lesson on our Beautiful Wonderful state. Safe travels on your way home. God Bless
Hi Slim! Glad you got to at least travel through my current home state of Tennessee. Sorry you couldn't stay a while and enjoy some of our beautiful mountains, waterfalls, hiking trails, and friendly people. Safe travels, my friend! 😎
Keep up the great work on these videos. I always look forward to your posts. Thank you for the work and and effort you put into every one of them; It really shows. Safe travels.
As I've said in the past I enjoy all your videos. When you started singing I thought I might find a video that wasn't my favorite, but actually you have a pleasing voice.
Well slim I've enjoyed travelling to the states this winter without leaving my couch, it actually helped warm me up this long cold winter. I'm almost sad to see the trip coming to an end .Enjoyed all those free campsites. I will be looking forward to the next adventures at your new cabin. Thanks Dale
Morning Slim. Have been enjoying your videos for years. One of the vids u did quite a while ago had u having to go to milk for breakfast. Walmart in the states in the baking area have milk in the tetra packs. Stays good for about 6 months with out being refrigerated. Great for on the road and home. My wife says u can pick it up at Dollar tree for about half the price of Walmart. I drive truck and have a been in a few areas that u gone through and most of the states. Good luck with your journeys and your house rebuild. Safe journeys my friend
Just want to thank you for taking the time to create and post the videos you do. I know it must take a lot of time. Glad you are home safely. I really enjoyed this video as I do the others.
Thanks for the usual out of the usual video. I hope we both get to turn on our cabin water soon. Still using my RV for showers. I keep it warmed to 55 inside to keep the basement and water pipes from freezing. Curious to see a list of work you need to complete your cabin and how you plan to do each. I need to do all the old pvc plumbing to PEX from the well on to the last stop in the shower and level the floor. From there, cosmetics. Flooring, cabinets. Then flowers and veggies! Happy fixing!
New River Gorge Fall Festival is a wonderful experience. People come from all over the world to jump off that bridge. As fast as they unload & jump, there comes another bus load ready to jump. They close the North Bound Side during the hours of the festival. We parked down in Burger King shopping center & took a shuttle up to the festival. Thank you Slim for the wonderful stories of West Virginia, John Henry, Thurmond, & you sing well. I'd listen forever to you sing. I love hearing the river in the hot summer nights. Just so relaxing. I live near New River, it's over the hill from me. Remember me, I have a place for you to camp, free.
My mother-in-law was born in the town of Hinton,Wv, not far from Beckley. Her mother was born on the family farm just down the road from where the John Henry statue is located.
What a wonderful video. West Virginia always has a very special place in my heart. I loved your insights into its history., as well as its beauty. Wishing you well on your return to Canada.
Welcome to my home state of WV. Have RV camped in the New River gorge are several times. Had plans to come to Army Camp just before you arrived but headed in an different direction. WV has much to offer for travelers like you. Please come back , there is much to see and enjoy.
Welcome home Slim. It is always a pleasure watching your videos. Very informative and beautiful. I hope all is well at your cabin. It is still snowy in Saskatchewan but spring is trying to show up.
Enjoyed your trip Slim. Im from Kentucky with family in WV, but haven't to been to the Gorge. Maybe next time you can come through Kentucky, we have a beautiful state.
I love the way you narrate your travels. Thats the way my sister and i talk when we travel and go to cool ghost towns and camp areas. It makes not only the beauty of the now come to life, but makes history and those padt lives so real. Thank you.
Loved this explore! Thank you. I didn't know the history of John Henry. Be safe as you travel back 'home'. Spring has arrived here at home Slim . :-) I will be watching for you along the way. Maybe I will see ya at the Silver Fox (you never know).
You are in my country now !!!! Bout 60 mi.from Bristol Va. Have been in some of the areas you were at . Love the big bridge over the New River . Thanks for taking us along ! Oh also I worked in the coal industry 41 years.
Slim, the next time you are near the New River George Bridge, do the bridge walk tour. You walk the length of the bridge on the inspection catwalk under the roadway. It's pricey but one of those experiences you should not miss. The outfitter is on the left after you turn into the visitors center road.
Glad you mentioned that you closed the window cover. I have pulled away without doing all sorts of stuff. i even left the door open once when I was in a hurry. Luckily someone stopped me and told me.
Slim, I don't think those were crickets at night, I'm pretty sure they were spring peepers. They used to be so loud down my pond that I could hardly stand to be there when they were going. Keep the good stuff coming and I look forward to finding out what you're going to do to your cabin.
Thanks for throwing some love and spotlight on the Mountain State! It is definitely uniquely enchanting. I also just have to thank you for the funny, practical, and poetic moments I can count on across your videos.
Hey Slim! I just watched a video about Thurmond a couple days ago. Interesting to see you in the same spot. We are headed out to SD and will meander through part of WV on our way. Now I need to check out Thurmond too. Big rail fan 😊 so this is my kinda place
We are in Hinton today for a stroll and lunch, then over to the John Henry Historical Park. Thank you so much for putting these sites on our radar. Such a beautiful rich green area full of history.
I grew up in a small town like this. iam almost 50 and I decided to go back. I bought land and started a little farm but it's so depressing. most family has died and every one moved away. Those past days was good times. No drugs or other problems of the world we live in now. I feel like my life like my home town is fading fast. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thank you for visiting our United States, you are welcome anytime.

Slim, you’re a wonderful story teller.looking forward to seeing your next video! Thanks 😊
His adventures always cheer me up. He's not trying to be overly energetic and fake, just telling a story!
Time to scroll through the backlog while he's on hiatus. 😁
Great rendition Slim. Love it! Knowing that you have work to do on your cabin, we are grateful that you take us along. Thank you.
Too bad you missed the spring bloom of the dogwoods in the mountains. It's an awesome sight.
I was expecting the Mandolin to come out for a rendition of John Henry. :-)
Another epic road trip ends. By the way the Canadian comedy band "The Arrogant Worms" has a funny parody of the Steel Driving Man song which is quite humorous.
Yes it is! I also like their "Carrot Juice is Murder" song! SP
@@SlimPotatohead And “Last Saskatchewan Pirate”. (But I listen to the Captain Tractor cover. Family ties.)
We sang "Trees and Rocks" on our way to Yellowknife... "And water..." What a great fun band they are!
I love your thoughtfulness. You are such a good ambassador for travel.
Your natural music ability is on display in your singing Slim because you hit the right notes. I noticed it when you were playing your slide guitar.
Good morning slim my favorite
Good morning Jason. Thanks!
