Pre order The Sage of Secrets here - www.shopsaikou.com/products/sage-of-secrets-shirt-fact-fiend-pre-order
The sequel stepped it up a notch. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has a video game on the shelf of an electronics shop titled "Knuckles the Echidna in: Knuckles and Knuckles & Knuckles"
Really? Must’ve passed it and never noticed when I played divided well better late than never learning about a easter egg
Fun fact about Sora - Disney actually wanted Sora to be in the game much, MUCH earlier, and he was consistently the highest voted for write-in candidate during development of even smash bros brawl.
Nomura, the mad man, held absolutely firm that Sora was to be the last fighter introduced. For the exact reason that Disney wanted him in earlier - The popularity and hype.
All this Saw talk just makes me think about how Christmas is creeping in on Halloween so much, that even Saw X is able to be flipped oven to be Xʍɐs
"We should do something together sometime" is how I arrange to meet friends, not start a crossover series of video games
Also having Final Fantasy 27, means the series is so successful they are STILL making them.
I love when they realize merch, but they need to include the awesome redesigned name of fact fiend on their merch. I WANT 'keeper of the forbidden knowledge' and 'The Sage of secrets' written on the shirts along with the really cool designs.
Can’t do Keeper of Secrets, 40k has that one
I haven't checked the channel since 2021, basically when they were back in the office and the nearby Nisha joke started, opening this video and hearing nearby Brad and Nisha put a smile on my face
It's not even a joke at their expense. The joke is that FF would still be around 16 years in the future (at the time of the games release). Oh no, the joke is that your game series is so successful it never ends! The horror! The bad PR! How will you ever recover!
Unfortunately, most Japanese salary men are incapable of understanding that jokes can be anything other than negative and references to their IPs are not copyright infringement by default.
According to one interview with Hironobu Sakaguchi, it wasnt that the company was at risk of being insolvent, it was Sakaguchi himself who was frustrated with not being able to make the game that he wanted, so he decided he was going to give his notice of resignation while working on whatever last game he made. His wife, he alleges then told him " if he was going to quit anyway, why not just make the game he wanted? if they fired him it'd be pretty much the same thing, right?" so he made the game he wanted and called it Final Fantasy, his Final game, the one he dreamed of making.
his accounts have varied over time though
Not to be the "acctually..." girl, but its been multiple uncomfired origins of the name. The one where the company had one last game before they would shug down if it dindt preform in sales, one theory where it was the director Hironobu Sakagutchi's last game before he would have to retire rrom the industry and get a regular job, and the semi confirmed one; where they wanted to name it Fighting Fantasy but was concerned about similarities in the title with another game on the marked(cant remember which one at the moment) and therefore picked Final Fantasy to keep the illiteration
Fighting Fantasy was a choose your own adventure RPG book series written by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone (the guys who founded Games Workshop). They might have been concerned about the name but it would surprise me if early 80's Japan had even heard of them
@@TheWhite2086 Keep in mind, though that Japan has a legacy of fairly draconian IP laws. Remember, this is the country where anime characters talk about the newest "Gunham" series at the local "McDuncan's" franchise.
@Kingfisher_2376 My question about it isn't if they would be worried about the legality of using the name, it's if a company in 1980's Japan had heard the name of a relatively obscure book series from America that had only existed for a couple of years. I have no doubt that, if they knew about it, that they would have been concerned about the legality.
@@TheWhite2086 Im familiar with the book series (in terms of its name only, not any other part like release date, author, plot, etc), and even if it has the fighting fantasy name. This is not what I was refering to. There was at the time either a released game, game series or an upcoming game release that had a similar name. Im doing this from memory (my mistake, but the naming conflict's credability isnt contented on identifying the excact source of potential conflict. As this is as far as we know the most vertified version, as its stated by some people who at a time was part of the FF series development, though not yet, as far as I've seen/heard, officially & publicly confirmed by Square as a company).
The game title I was refering to contained the word Fighting and something similar to Fantasy either in the wording or meaning/ context (again it from memory, if i remerber correctly it was something like; Fantasy Fighter/s or Fighting force,)
It was at least not a well known/remembered title in the west, at least not in terms of casual consumers and mainstream gaming history. I think I recall it being either a recent (in '86-87 terms) release or announced title. It might not have kept the name in its export to "english speaking" markets or might've even been changed/ canceled before release in either marked. (im counting both america's and europe, as often the games where translated from english to the local langauge, if at all, instead of translating from the O.G japanese. Availability & cost reasons, combined with the general mid->low value put on games as a story telling medium at the time)
TLDR: The naming conflict was not with a directly named title but a similar enough one, so the small developer Square changed it out of caution (I dunno if the worry was; financial, licencing, creative or markeding based)
Never been this early for a fact fiend video glad I found this channel
My favourite "if you censor this, then we're going to make it so much worse" story is Type O Negative's Christian Woman music video. MTV told them that they had to change the sexually explicit lyrics if they wanted it played on the channel, so the band agreed (which should have been a red flag), but the music video was just a soft porn video starring Peter Steele.
Hell yeah! I'm always down for the Fact Fiend Crew. You beautiful bastards always bring me some fun and entertainment.
On the note of "series with incorrect names", shoutout to Mostly Harmless, described on its cover as "The fifth book in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhikers Trilogy"
god I love Hitchhikers' humour
I wanted to hear Nisha's enamel pin story...
What if the real Fact Fiend is the Fact Friends we made along the way?
Ohh man. I'm never first for anything. I don't know what to do with my hands 🤲
*hands you the Pope Dildo*
You're amazing.
I feel like Karl watched some hbomberguy and was just like, “What’s the story there?”
It's been 11months since his last video! I want a 3 hour video on a game in the 90s he found "ok".
@@tianqi5008 hopefully it's Messiah for PC. that game actually owns! oof!!
@@danhectic5629 oof
I love the story of CEO bromance in an elevator leading to a hit video game franchise.
The next design should be something like Academic Gremlin.
the Sage of Secrets is nice but the little fact-fiend chan on the pins is adorable.
Funny thing is, the same Deus Ex game had a Portal reference with the companion cube in a basement which reminded me of Portal and I ended up replaying it.
you guys are one of my favorite British people
I may have to buy that Sage of Secrets
What's more ironic is that on the other hand, the Neverending Story ENDED after just 3 movies. 😂
i remember all the way back in school, when FF7 was out. one of the kids in my class had a massive strop about it being called final fantasy "when there are like 7 of them so stupid!"
You guys always have the best time. Gosh, I wish I could take y’all out for a pint! But that merch is sick and I’m already thankful tomorrow is payday so I can support!!
if you have no clean drinking glass...
Not really my style, but i love the fusion of a 9-tail fox lady with two foxes running around her
Hey, I actually know what the title's talking about before I click on it this time. Thanks thumbnail.
5:50 That Slum Shady geriatric tour meme is even funnier now...
corporate attack by newcastle brown ale against stella was hilarious
This video is just the embodiment of ADD, start telling a 4 sentence story, get distracted, and finish it nearly 15 minutes into the video
Heard that they actually wanted to call the game Fighting Fantasy, but the name was taken so they changed it to Final Fantasy
My knowledge demon tee got ruined in the wash :/
I missed the forbidden knowledge keeper T-shirt 😢 not going to make that mistake again
Ok sage of secrets sounds so damn cool.
is that moonshine? are we doing another drinking video?
Die hard because the main charachter never dies nor do they appear to be hard
Where pins? I want pins. I need pins. Where pins.
Nice merch guys
I wanted to hear neeshas enamel pin story
hate final fantasy but i fucking love the powerglove covers and the intro music to nes ff is gorgeous
The reason they named it final fantasy is because the company was about to go outta business so for the last game they named it final fantasy but they made such a profit they stayed in business
Yea, that’s what we say in the video worded differently.
funny enough, i'm pretty sure that they'd probably be up near 27 by now if they hadn't slowed way down on them
i miss green scrien
o wait der he is. can u put a bunch of tiny pics on there for me pls?
I don't care how stupid the beginnings of it were, Kingdom Hearts was a kickass set of games. I liked it more than Final Fantasy. Which is an extremely controversial statement in my friend group 😂 but I truly loved that game.
Final fantasy is a movie with occasional gameplay. No game should have cut scenes that long. No matter how high quality or interesting they are.
Just a question, does the sage of secrets come as anything other than a t-shirt?
Final fantaisie are in apocalypse
Wheres the magic players, we could have fact fiend proxies
Final Fantasy?
lesgooo
I like eggies
nisha should play 9 x-x
Its Stage 4 Capitalism
Isn't it called Final Fantasy cause the heroes end the villain's plot, thus being their final fantasy? Even in the first game they say the final boss's quest is nothing but a fantasy.
Pins!?
I hate the game, and I am sorry for that, but my mother brought herself the game and stole my ps to play it this I hated the game ever since also the way the game was laid out back then maybe even still now just isn’t my kind of game lol.
