I ran into a guy that said "train your dog then" while my dog was overwelmed on a trail and his dog aproched and didnt leave till he did and he was like 12 feet away and he didnt even call his dog away while my dog freaked out as I tryed to stop her from biting...yeah people really don't know when to remove their dogs from a situation, my dog had recently been attacked by a dog on a trail too, and I was taking appropriate action, all other dogs have right of way to walk by before she does I stick myself between her and other dogs but do people listen? No...I even called out "shes not friendly" which means usually "your dogs gonna end in a bloody mess if you don't keep them away or on a leash" the area hsd rules if a dog was to be off leash, 1 a dog must obay commands given by owner 2 dog must not harrass or behave improperly 3 dog must not approach dogs or people and stay by their owners Dude had not followed any of those rules, and I would have kicked the dog if I could, like we said stay away from us, that means we will get aggressive too! Socialization is KEY and just dumping your dog into the dog park is not a recipe for success. Dogs needs boundaries, direction, security, and a leader. I've seen all kinds of dogs and dog owners at dog parks, and the pandemic has made these places much worse. People just need to take the time to learn how much responsibility a dog is and how important dog language is.

There are a lot of people with uncontrolled “friendly” dogs that are always running at large in parks, and on trails. That’s a great way to lose a dog on a trail too, dog takes off after a coyote, wolf, bear, moose, or even a large Buck could spell certain doom, what if your trail is on open range and there a herd of cattle with Texas long horns around a blind corner, they can/will Gore a grizzly bear, what the hell you think they gonna do to your dog? .. use your bloody head and think fool!

Not wanting to tell you what to do, but still be careful because a leashed dog is much more on the defensive since they can’t run away. If multiple dogs come at them while they’re leashed they might attack to protect themselves

I have a very friendly 10 year old 140 pound husky lab. We used to take him to breweries all the time. About 3 years ago while we were walking a small dog ran up and bit him on the face. He snapped back in defense and took about 5 tables and everyone's drinks with him. Owners cursed and tried to blame us. 0 accountability after watching their dog bite another one. Could have easily killed him.
That heeler looked like he might have had a little chow or husky or something in him. One day he's going to try to take on one of those pit-types I saw walking around, and they might instruct him in polite dog etiquette.

Great observations. We can all learn from their behavior. We have a 3 year old Golden and a 6 month Healer/Beagle mix. Both great and loving dogs. The Golden is about done playing games though and has had to put Healer in her place many times. They still love to play together, do everything together but Healer gets so very excited doing anything at all.

i'm not sure where you stand on dog training methods but to me this just proves that humans cant use that "i have to dominate my dog with brute force and pin him down for him to respect me" type of training. with dogs there are so many subtle signs of communications! so many combinations of warnings and expressions of mood before getting physical. all humans can really do is escalate to like level 3 communication with dogs and stand over them or get physical too fast in the dog world, we would be typical "dog park bullies" in their minds. this helped me see it all together now. imagine being a dog and not seeing any "proper" warning signs from your owner and then being "nipped" out of nowhere or full-on hit/ pushed. the dog is left confused and insecure! Thank you for these videos. extremely eye opening and changes dog ownership in my mind.
That's why I don't go to dog parks. Too many around in one place when not on leashes is a bad idea. They can gang up quickly, particularly when they are raised by irresponsible owners. Some people use their dogs as an extension of their bullying behavior. If they behaved constantly like that in public, like they did back in my HS, they know they could get arrested. So, get a dog to do it for your entertainment.
I hate it when people with dogs have 0 understanding about their behaviour. I mean Ronin show a lot of restraint. The other dog would have gotten attacked a lot quicker by a whole lot of other dogs. The control you have over him is really something tho.

I don't bother with dog parks either. There are so many bad owners who couldn't care less about socializing their dog. Even if my dog is a big one (Cane corso) I don't want to take the risk of a fight.
I wouldn’t discount healers, they go face to face with big bulls all day long and win. That guy should have never let that dog get to that point. Healers are part dingo and can be very aggressive for their size and weight.

Orange guy at 4:30 looked more intrigued by the camera but didn't like how ronin immediately got in his face? The orange dog for sure could of just came over to try and assert himself too, but when he walked away after the minor confrontation I feel like he didn't *want* an issue perhaps. I notice ronin is extremely pushy and maybe thats because he's a confident dog, but I do really like how the owner is aware of this and actually checks his dog
I can't stand incompetent dog owners like that who bring their dogs to the park, their dog instigates a fight and they DO NOTHING TO STOP THE BEHAVIOR. I think you did the right thing, I also let my Malinois correct other dogs when they do things like this. Good for Ronin for sticking up for himself, that Blue Heeler learned the hard way.

I want my 5 month old cockapoo to get familiar with other dogs but just watching this video makes me so nervous. Ronin is such a good playful boy and still get's into scuffles. Not to mention, he's a pretty big boy and dogs still test him, lol.
I wouldn't recommend to socialize your pup with dogs from strangers. Ask around for a stable dog with with a balanced demenor and socialize your pup with those. It's better he has a few positive experiences than a bad one. People can't read their dog and don't care if their dog behaves bad. It's especially dangerous if you have a small dog.
@Crystal F if you're nervous your dog will be nervous. Also, I'd caution you with your dogo being very young. Instincts to "protect him, pick him up" etc would be normal but could lead to disaster at a dog park. Check your community, you may find puppy play groups. Smaller, supervised play time with same age pups 🐕🐾💙
Perhaps the best and most safe way to socialize a puppy (or any dog) is just desensitizing them to every day stuff! Teaching a young pup to just peacefully co-exist with/near people and other dogs and is just so handy and can prevent many cases of reactivity:) And, just like the other comments said, avoid dog parks and find someone with a stable, tolerant dog and watch the interactions very closely!

He's such a friendly little nugget and wants to run up and kiss everyone, but of course, not everyone likes that. @@thescurry You don’t know your dogs, do you? Heelers were bred to bite cattle in the back legs HARD. They have a bite force ranging from 200-400 PSI. Malinois are around 200.

A lot of dogs don't belong in the dog park or their owners should go there at odd times when no one else is there. The humans need to be trained FIRST before the dogs can be properly managed. Except in cases of past abuse/trauma or an actual organic mental problem in a canine, almost all of the problems are because of the people.

Not a big story but when I was reading you comment it give me a wee glow... I lost my kelpie a couple of month ago and when you said about your rescue cattle dog feeling he's the "enforcer". Amber (kelpie) wasn't interested in any dog... just wanted to work... I was out one day and there was a rottweiler.. the biggest head I ever seen... his name was Milo... and 9 months old... and the two of them became the best pals. If there was any trouble in the park Milo would be there to break up any trouble.. he would be the enforcer.... and Amber would be there as back up if required... not that Amber was ever required. Once the trouble is over and they walk away.... Milo and Amber walking together.... and Amber would turn around with a couple of barks at he dog who started the trouble... saying "don't let it happen again!". Maybe she wasn't... once you get to know you dog... it's like you know what there saying... and vesa vesa.. they know ever word you say... 😂😂

Yep. Large part of the reason the dog continues to act this way is because the owner bails them out last second. They allow the posturing and dominance but interfere right as a fight breaks out - otherwise the dog would have learned its lesson by now.
Have a woman who keeps bringing her aggressive Akita and her small 3year old son into the big dog side of the park. She lets both of them run around unsupervised. Have told her how dangerous it is for her son. She laughs it off and continues to bring him even though it is against the rules of the park. Uggg. We leave every time she shows up.
The heeler was fine, and, I'm sure, is cool with leaving Ronin in peace from now on. It's the owner that needs trained up. Considering the owner's behavior, I wonder how much the heeler was reacting to the owner's dysfunctional energy.

Because you don't know anything about other dog's entering the dog park. If they are social dog's are not. Please pay attention to your dog at these dog park cause you never know if they will hurt or even kill you pet. If you dog stays with you at a dog park they may be looking for you to help protect them. Please know the signs you dog may be showing you.

Most def! Im not that patient. I have a 6yr old pit, i have him well trained. He knows not to be aggressive and tries to avoid conflict. Sadly there are a lot of dog owners like this guy in the video that doesn't correct their dog's behavior and thats when my dog gets bothered and tells their dog to stop. Again if owner dont control their dog the first time and if their dog continues to show aggression towards my dog i definitely will say something.
my dog is way to dominant and strong to be at a dog park, not to mention he's never been "chill" with another dog before. he's a pitbull lab mix so like I said, he's really strong

It's ironic that the friendliest/coolest dog was a pit, but the other breeds started stuff.
Which pit? There were two purebreds and one mixed. The mixed black one was extremely friendly, as they tend to be when raised by excellent owners.

if a see another dog annoy my dog, i go over and give dem a push away and tells them that its not okay and polite behaviour. it usually helps.

Good for Ronin. When a jerk owned does not correct his dog. Dog should be taken away. This is why I don't bother with dog parks. It only takes 1 jerk owner and your dog suffers.
I don't bother with dog parks either. There are so many bad owners who couldn't care less about socializing their dog. Even if my dog is a big one (Cane corso) I don't want to take the risk of a fight.

I wouldn’t discount healers, they go face to face with big bulls all day long and win. That guy should have never let that dog get to that point. Healers are part dingo and can be very aggressive for their size and weight.
These are such fascinating videos. Most dog owners just don’t know or understand dog language. It doesn’t make them bad or irresponsible owners. They just don’t speak dog. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with viewers and I’m looking forward to seeing more.

The orange dog for sure could of just came over to try and assert himself too, but when he walked away after the minor confrontation I feel like he didn't *want* an issue perhaps.
I notice ronin is extremely pushy and maybe thats because he's a confident dog, but I do really like how the owner is aware of this and actually checks his dog
I can't stand incompetent dog owners like that who bring their dogs to the park, their dog instigates a fight and they DO NOTHING TO STOP THE BEHAVIOR. I think you did the right thing, I also let my Malinois correct other dogs when they do things like this. Good for Ronin for sticking up for himself, that Blue Heeler learned the hard way.
This is why I no longer go to dog parks, because people don’t control their dogs.

I want my 5 month old cockapoo to get familiar with other dogs but just watching this video makes me so nervous. Ronin is such a good playful boy and still get's into scuffles. Not to mention, he's a pretty big boy and dogs still test him, lol.
I wouldn't recommend to socialize your pup with dogs from strangers. Ask around for a stable dog with with a balanced demenor and socialize your pup with those. It's better he has a few positive experiences than a bad one. People can't read their dog and don't care if their dog behaves bad. It's especially dangerous if you have a small dog.
@Crystal F if you're nervous your dog will be nervous. Also, I'd caution you with your dogo being very young. Instincts to "protect him, pick him up" etc would be normal but could lead to disaster at a dog park. Check your community, you may find puppy play groups. Smaller, supervised play time with same age pups 🐕🐾💙
Perhaps the best and most safe way to socialize a puppy (or any dog) is just desensitizing them to every day stuff! Teaching a young pup to just peacefully co-exist with/near people and other dogs and is just so handy and can prevent many cases of reactivity:) And, just like the other comments said, avoid dog parks and find someone with a stable, tolerant dog and watch the interactions very closely!
@emily sayswords Thank you. I'm trying to teach him how to calm himself down when he sees new people and other pets now. He's such a friendly little nugget and wants to run up and kiss everyone, but of course, not everyone likes that. I'm kind of nervous taking such a big part that makes him so loveable away, but he for sure needs to be desensitized lol 😆 😅

They aren't Merle and that dog doesn't look Heeler to me at all) because obviously his owner is a total asshat and the poor dog is nervous because he has no boundaries 😢 Your video is amazing and so helpful! they bite like a toothless infant compared to a Malinois.
@@thescurry You don’t know your dogs, do you? Heelers were bred to bite cattle in the back legs HARD. They have a bite force ranging from 200-400 PSI. Malinois are around 200.

A lot of dogs don't belong in the dog park or their owners should go there at odd times when no one else is there.
The humans need to be trained FIRST before the dogs can be properly managed.
Except in cases of past abuse/trauma or an actual organic mental problem in a canine, almost all of the problems are because of the people.

Living in the country people drop off cats and dogs, with that being said we inherited a a cattle dog. He is tenacious and my Aussie works at keeping him in line. What an interesting video. My Aussie is the thinker and pleaser, and our rescue cattle dog mix feels he’s the enforcer.I will say he does want to please us so when we correct him he is submissive.
Not a big story but when I was reading you comment it give me a wee glow... I lost my kelpie a couple of month ago and when you said about your rescue cattle dog feeling he's the "enforcer". Amber (kelpie) wasn't interested in any dog... just wanted to work... I was out one day and there was a rottweiler.. the biggest head I ever seen... his name was Milo... and 9 months old... and the two of them became the best pals. If there was any trouble in the park Milo would be there to break up any trouble.. he would be the enforcer.... and Amber would be there as back up if required... not that Amber was ever required. Once the trouble is over and they walk away.... Milo and Amber walking together.... and Amber would turn around with a couple of barks at he dog who started the trouble... saying "don't let it happen again!". Maybe she wasn't... once you get to know you dog... it's like you know what there saying... and vesa vesa.. they know ever word you say... 😂😂

I’m still learning about who my dogs are and how amazing they can grow to be more intelligent as I grow in intelligence and awareness to making a better pack. I have two Chinese cresteds, they know they have no chance lmao. They don't start shit with other dogs. That being said... my rats are the only small dogs I like 😂
Yep. Large part of the reason the dog continues to act this way is because the owner bails them out last second. They allow the posturing and dominance but interfere right as a fight breaks out - otherwise the dog would have learned its lesson by now.

Have a woman who keeps bringing her aggressive Akita and her small 3year old son into the big dog side of the park. She lets both of them run around unsupervised. Have told her how dangerous it is for her son. She laughs it off and continues to bring him even though it is against the rules of the park. Uggg. We leave every time she shows up.

The heeler was fine, and, I'm sure, is cool with leaving Ronin in peace from now on. It's the owner that needs trained up. Considering the owner's behavior, I wonder how much the heeler was reacting to the owner's dysfunctional energy.
I am glad you explain what to look for in dog's who show good and bad behavior. So many pet owners needs to watch your videos and learn. Because you don't know anything about other dog's entering the dog park. If they are social dog's are not. Please pay attention to your dog at these dog park cause you never know if they will hurt or even kill you pet. If you dog stays with you at a dog park they may be looking for you to help protect them. Please know the signs you dog may be showing you.

Most def! Im not that patient. I have a 6yr old pit, i have him well trained. He knows not to be aggressive and tries to avoid conflict. Sadly there are a lot of dog owners like this guy in the video that doesn't correct their dog's behavior and thats when my dog gets bothered and tells their dog to stop. Again if owner dont control their dog the first time and if their dog continues to show aggression towards my dog i definitely will say something.
