But I think that they should have reworked Italy and the soviets before doing countries like Portugal or Spain. Also the dlcs cost me like 3$ so I can't complain that much in that regard

@@shellshockedgerman3947 I agree, but they are depicted as that for a reason. Generally speaking, they were one of the weakest "major powers" in WW2, and definently the weakest among the Axis. While it is undeniable that they had a numerous and strong navy, they lacked some technological aspects such as radar, and they required approval from their political leaders (much like the Soviets) for any operation-even if they had a very clear and decisive advantage. They army, airforce, and navy (especially the Italian frogmen) were no laughing matter; but their leadership (much like the French leadership in 1940) squandered their many advantages. This can primary be summed up to nepotism in the Italian armed forces and country in general, mainly due to Mussolini's extreme desire for loyalty and respect, to the point that more suitable candidates for the armed forces and government were neglected in favor of people Mussolini trusted more. Additionally, the Italian industry wasn't much. Although the North was far more heavily industrialized than the South, and there were major pushes to industrialize all of Italy, it never came to fruition, and the Italian industry couldn't sustain a massive army and navy to rival that of the British or French or Americans.

I like to imagine that the next dlc will be called "The three Romes" which gives new focus trees to Italy, Soviets, Turkey and maybe Greece with some new gameplay feature but god knows if that will happen

@@parodyisparody3158 Neither makes much sense since Greece was founded on its Hellenic identity while the overthrow of the Ottoman Empire resulted in the end of any Turkish link. Megali Idea or something like restoring the Ottoman Empire is probably more likely.

@Max Schultz Yes actually, it does. It was kinda the one to conquer it and adopt and adapt its bureaucracy with the Sultan responsible naming himself "Conqueror of Rome". Additionally, the Greek War of Independence was focused on Hellenic heritage rather than Roman. Because of this, Greeks that still saw themselves as Romaioi referred to other Greeks as Hellenes, even into the 20th century.
Of course, that doesn't change the fact that Greece not having a tree that does anything is a massive, atrocious oversight on the devs part.
Like, at least a civil war or something that installs an expansionist King who wants to reverse the effects of the Treaty of Lausanne and impose Double Sevres or whatever. This Greece would probably incur international condemnation by everyone other than the fascists and USSR so it'd be forced to ally with either if the Allies decide to intervene militarily.
This path could also lead to a Byzantinophile coup proclaiming a neo-Roman Empire, in practice only replacing the authoritarian monarchy with the same thing but LARPing as Rome. In any case, this coup would put Greece on the Axis' bad side (if Mussolini actually joins) and force them to make their own faction since I don't see them working with the USSR.
This neo-Roman Empire would give even more cores than any Megali-focused focuses, starting with the Balkans (up to the Danube) and Anatolia (coextensive with Turkey), and ending with the Levant, Egypt, Cyrenaica, Tripolitania, Corsica, and Italy, with additional focuses to "free" the interior of North Africa (any parts not covered in Justinian's reconquests) as puppet states so you can still exploit mining or whatever industry is there.

Yes, you can change your ideology with Poland, but it is bad, because even if you change it U.S.S.R. will still attack if you don't give haft of your land or join them. For Fascist, it is the same thing join or fight. I won't talk about democracy it is just the worst thing you can do. To conclude, you don't have any good choices if you swap your ideology you have to choose a faction or fight at the both side at the time. The advantage of Italy and U.S.S.R. is you have one or two more choices like make Italy ''great again'' or fight alone easily without be harass. At just hope Poland will be consider by is local position if they rework it.

* "Russia Reworked" has alternate paths which either, a) brings back the Tsar, b) establishes a Military Junta, c) goes Democratic (with nuances), or d) go Fascist.

Its sad because I feel Italy could have quite a few interesting routes historical and non-historical. For historic there could be an indepth Pact of Steel path with focuses to spread the war to the Balkans and N.Africa. Non historical there could be a monarchist route, a Democratic route, a Communist route, and a fascist but anti-Hitler route where you tiptie around in relations with the Allies to take down Hitler while getting land believed to have been promised by Versailles.
Also a unique revolution/surrender mechanic could be given to Italy if it goes down the historic route where if southern Italy is taken, it could flip Democratic and join with the allies while north Italy would be annexed into Germany.

The worst shit in HoI4 is you get these missions where u have to take all the areas before you can integrate them, rather than allowing us to gradually incorporate them, that is such bullshit. Like novus roman imperium, byzantine and the ottoman empire, instead of just letting us gobble a few territories at a time.

Italy Reworked is a great mod for Italy. It adds more historical events and at least one branch for each ideology. I usually have it on with Minor Nations Reborn, all the time, since it makes my usual a-historical even more unpredictable.
