When I lived in QLD, I would listen to this at night and be filled with wonder. The night has its own orchestra there and I miss that! Thanks for helping me remember.
I'm going to sleep to this right now! I mean, once I close TH-cam I'll hear the birds out my bedroom window. It's almost midnight and they're still awake :P
I especially miss the frogs and this bird. Its really uncommon to find an area where they persist in Melbourne. My favorite sounds are rain dripping off a forest of leaves, a running brook, rain sound on a tin roof, Bellbirds, Whip bird, bell frogs around a pond at night, and aussie night birds calling like the Willie Wagtail and Magpie. They are a mood.
@@santyclause8034 Go out bush is my advice, if you can. They have a plethora of beautiful bird sounds, frogs and chirruping insects away from the city. I want to take my own advice but it's hard especially at the moment with all that's happening around the world :/
We call him djitti-djitti in Noongar, and I think he seems to have similar names out east (djirri-djirri down in Wurundjeri and Bunurong, and I imagine it might be similar up in NSW - I think I remember a Yuin man calling him djitti-djitti too). Special bird. A bit of a trickster in a lot of the stories.
I have a funny story about Willy Wagtail. I was visiting the Government House in Perth WA. My husband and I were walking through the landscape and these birds of all sorts were kinda flying around us. Then a bird came up to me and stopped in mid air to flash his underbelly to me and then swooped to the ground. I asked what kind of bird is that (I'm from the US, he's the Aussie) and he said its a Willy Wagtail. What a pretty bird and playful too.
Ive been hearing him day and night..the daughter of Polish Migrants ..now 51.. thankfully grew up in Warragamba..(local dialect..means place of running water...later white oeople built a Fam and needed migrant workers..🙄😎😳),..the bush.. the foothills.. of the Magnificent ..Blue Mountains 💯❤️👌🙏👍😁😎
All my Life I have listened to the variety of harmonious Symphony's of Australian Sounds ONLY in the background of Movies. It's wonderful to finally know WHO is singing these beautiful Songs !
Thank you so much for this video. I've been searching for 2 or so years to find what bird was making a beautiful sound outside each night. I get anxiety and for some reason laying in bed at night hearing these birds makes me feel so calm. 🖤
Heard this fella everyday growing up as a kid, never could find it, I heard it recently and I got never nostalgic as I missed hearing its call, I’m so glad if found out what the bird was
I love wily wag tails they have such a strong can do attitudes with a fearless truth telling love watching them do cart wheels and showing the crows who is boss so adorable
This call is pretty haunting and calm at the same time. I remember after the floods we had here in Kempsey March 2021 when the rain had finally stopped and we had lots of localised flooding. The sky was clear for the first time in a week and there were no cars out in the middle of town. I stood near an intersection that was now a small lake and all I could hear was the sound of a lone Willie Wagtail. All I see when I hear them is the reflection of the sun and clear sky in the flood waters.
Thank you so much for this! I have been searching everywhere for this sound! I always felt such serenity at night listening to these wonderful birds and now I can listen to this if I ever feel troubled !!!!
I dunno about the 'in abundance" stuff. Haven't seen a Wagtail for decades in Melbourne. Still see ants, wasps, Indian Mynahs, Wattle Birds, Noisy Miners, Magpies, Turtleneck Doves, Crested doves, Crows, Pigeons, Rainbow Lorikeets, Frogmouths, Emu Wrens, Superb Fairy wrens, Silvereyes, Logrunners, Whip Bird, Superb Lyrebird, Greyfox Fruit Bats, Red Fox fruitbats, assorted Owls, Little Falcons, Peregrines, White morph Grey Goshawk, Crimson Rosella, Kookaburras, Seagulls, Bin Chickens, occasional Bentwing bat, Corellas, Sulfur Crested Cockatoos, Galahs ..the sparsity of aussie songbirds here is horrendous.
This is the sound of my childhood. I lived in the far north adjacent to a big park. I would wake up in the morning with the sun peaking through my window over the mountain, and it would be dead quiet. I remember one winter it got so cold I could see my breathe as I walked outside, and all I could hear was the echoes of this one lone Willie wag tail singing through the trees. The rays of the sunlight were splintered by the eucalyptus trees and I could see the dust dancing through them. It was beautiful, and I'll always hold that experience close to my heart.
If you play this on your phone and turn it to full volume and place outside in an area where there lots of willie wagtails it attracts them to the phone.
My cattle dog was fascinated by these as a pup and has been for years He can spot one from 200mtrs away from their distinctive flight pattern They are very cheeky and we named them (tiiki tiiki) due to its sound
They are real little characters - I love their songs at night in the warmer months (although they can be persistent and they drive some insomniacs crazy! )
@@WildAmbience I searched on youtube and came across this video while sitting at the park yesterday evening, I played it out aloud on my bluetooth speaker and scattered some bird seed and some willie wag tails came and sat upon my bike.. Very special moment to hang out with these guys during lockdown :)
I love these birds. I live in a nature reserve & your channel has really helped me identify many of my native friends who share this land with me (especially the nocturnal animals whose sounds I can hear but can’t see!)
I have them here in Perth, very tame they even sit on my dogs ,they sit on my shoulder and try to pull my hearing aids out, come into the house, little buggers cost me 20 bucks in meal worms, the local kids just love it
My dog is very protective of his yard and will growl and pigeons, crows, magpies and even big blow flies that go near his food bowl. But for some reason he doesn't mind this bird
i was born in vicroria and lived 37yrs of my life there and heard and seen these birds, the willy wagtail more prevelantly in the day time as well as mudlarks as well as the usual magpie but surprisingly not it's cousin the currawong.i now live in queensland, moved in about'80 or so and never experienced these birds at all expept for the currawongs, magpies and crows.
my sister used to complain about 'some annoying bird' singing by her window and she hated it! she moved out and I moved rooms and I can hear him so i did my searching and I just found out it's one of these guys. its nice to hear, I can't understand why she didn't like it.
It's interesting how polarising the songs of this species are. I think it comes down to whether or not you have had one outside you window when you're struggling to sleep!
I love the sound of this bird... but i had one nesting outside my window in a bush, literally feet away from me. It would make this call all the damn time, from 7-pm to 5am.... It was not quiet.... It was extremely loud. Im a heavy sleeper, but this bird just kept me up for more than 2 months.
Thanks for your video! Wanted to know what bird I was hearing every night 😍 are they calling because it’s mating season for them? Because I’ve only just started hearing them
Several years ago (before I adopted my dog), there were 3 seasons when Willy Wagtails nested and bred in my trees close by to my house. They became so trusting of me. I am an amateur photographer, so spent many many hours studying them and photographing their fledglings. They have moved on to neighbours trees now, however I listen to them each night and miss not being a part of their lives.
This bird sound gives me anxiety. I had a week or two when I simply couldn’t sleep no matter how hard I tried and at around 2-4am I would hear this birds call and know that it was about to be day time and I’d gotten no sleep. No whenever I hear this beautiful call I’m filled with that same anxiety of restlessness and dry-begging for sleep eyes . Hopefully I can get past my insomnia one day. I used to love this bird so much.
the willy wagtail ( jitta jitta), some say a sign of death... Not as, he speaks to spirits and tells your tales. He is only brave and true. You blame your lies on him
Absolute bastard of a bird! The obnoxious little prick in the tree in my neighbors yard screams this shit all freaking night for months on end... it sounds like its right there next to you. Sadly this recording didnt help to drive it away

They are noisy at night at this time of year!
I am hearing right now:152am September 30 Milton Ulladulla NSW
Alllllll night 😂 right outside my window. Beautiful, but admit I have to wear earplugs to get any sleep 😅
I have a pet Wagtail. The sweetest most gentle bird ever...until another bird or human dares come near me, then watch out!
I played this for our little guy who’s been visiting our backyard every dusk and he was imitating the calls. So sweet.
Me too 😊
Lovely night sounds in the background. You are very fortunate to be in places where creatures still exist in abundance.
It was a stunning location where this sound was recorded. The variety of sounds at night was wonderful!

I have many of these birds living in my garden. I played this video and sent them into a frenzy lol
They are quite territorial so probably didn't like the sound of the 'intruder'!
I m in Queensland and hearing this serenade every night! I will miss this one day I was no longer here.
now I know our feisty little guy is a willie wagtail! he fights all other birds (albeit loses all the time) but never is afraid of us.
Just listening to the cheeky wagtails in my backyard sing and wondering why so late at night. now I know
Hats off to you and your channel. Always bringing the best and rare sound collections!! Thank you wild ambience. Loved it

Pure Magic..❤❤
I live in a house that these birds nested at, this sound helps calm them enough to not try to swoop me when I go outside
These lil guys always let me know when I've stayed up way too late.
I played this for my Willy Wag tail friend and he went crazy. Lol
