Breaking has been judged in world competition since 1990 (Battle of the Year in Hannover). Thats over 3 decades! I don’t understand how this is so hard to comprehend.
I think it’s one of those things that is more enjoyable to watch when not in a competition atmosphere. Being this level of technical seems to make it janky and fake. Putting on a show when they don’t really feel it. Also viewing experience would probably be better intoxicated
The Chinese dude got ROBBED. Sure the Dutch guy won the 2nd round (barely) but no way that they split the final round. One judge even voted for the Dutch guy ALL 3 ROUNDS, NO WAY.
They do it to every style of Dance. They're is never a need to zoom in but the director wants a close up of their feet or head... meanwhile, you're missing the actual dance.
Wow, wow growing up in the Bushwick housing projects in New York City. It was 1978 and I started breakdancing. I didn’t think it would be in the Olympics truly amazing something we created in the streets now global
Lots of complaining in this thread. People just can’t be happy we finally get to witness this art on a massive scale. I swear you can’t please anybody these days.
To be fair he’s not very original, he’s a mix of every top level bboy, and I havent seen any moves he’s created yet. Now in a regular battle I think Lee wins with originality. But in this Olympics setting I agree with you. There is no such thing as “biting” in the Olympics. If you can copy a move you should and take it to the next level. That’s what the Olympics is all about, even the playing ground and leave no restrictions. Sadly he was robbed in this setting.
lol i cant believe we still consider throwing a stick or a ball or running/jumping in a straight line to be worth paying tons of money for. its like we just forgot about the century of coordination progression our species has gone through and still consider that stuff to actually be "athletic"
i still dont know how i feel about breakdancing being an olympic sport..just way too many different variables in judging different dancing styles to me.
The guy in the pink shirt was amazing!!! gymnastics floor routines on steroids. Finally an Olympic sport with gymnastic elements where men aren’t forced to wear tights and the women aren’t forced to expose their bodies while in compromising positions.
@@VitaKet Whilst that fact is true, I think it is dishonest to imply has any relevance to the culture we live in today in regards to opinions on nudity and the human body. There is also a history of women being forced to wear extremely revealing outfits where men in the same sports aren't by male team managers and panelists. Beach volleyball is a prime example. Let's not pretend this isn't a thing that women have validly been complaining about for decades.
I hate the close up camera angles. Should only see the whole body of the breaker that's currently dancing. Also, L thumbnail bait: was expecting Hong 10.
I demand it be explained in a way I fully comprehend in my TH-cam comment otherwise it’s impossible! If I can’t understand something it must be impossible
To the more negative comments… Depends on the view, artistic expression x critique = forever controversy. In the particular sport tho there will always be a difference between those that win contests, and those who have rep in the streets. There’s room for both. For example I’m a skater for 20+ years, we always looked down on competitions compared to street back then, and even now SOTE is always a street skater based on video parts. But many of us have come around to recognizing that it brings these sports to the masses, it gives children people to look up to, and shows them how they can find joy in life through them regardless of financial background or country. In the end, it’s about those kids.
Idk why they don’t just set this up like figure skating, or gymnastics? Having them go back and forth on bad beats just isn’t the way to go. It should be routine vs routine imo.
Then you won't be able to judge although egos will be safe. The point is to fight on the same music and see if you can do your opponent's routine better than him.
China? I'm surprised and dissapointed he made it to finals with all the copying, the judging system barely penalized repetition and biting. Horrible lobbying and politics already
Performing artists like these are athletes. The competition aspect of battling has always been there in the DNA of this artistic expression of athleticism and other dimensions of movement. Therefore, I believe it can be considered a sport. Ice Dancing evolved from figure skating, and it is considered a sport to be judged. I feel like Breaking and other forms of HipHop can be viewed as a sport but more in the realm of extreme sports, because of its beauty, technical demands, and threat of harm to the body.
"BREAK DANCING " IS A FIGHT but with dance! I don't see that. There is no EMOTION in your telling a story, Representing your crew, your Family . Great dancing
As much as I love break dancing, this shouldn't be an olympic sport. Like someone said there is just too many different style to judge from and we need more sport with referee than judges.

Originality/creativity is one of the main categories on the scoring system. Lithe was flashier but Lee incorporated more original move sets compared to copied skills and was rewarded for it.
In other videos I’ve seen of Lithe-ing, many say he’s a biter, not original. In any street dance style, originality is important. Im not heavy into bboying, and I only watch it occasionally so I wouldn’t know or notice him biting. He does amaze me everytime I see him breaking, thats forsure!!

OLYMPICS & Bboy in the same sentence? Its lit . Took about 10 + years
