The only thing they changed in going to Égoïste was replacing ambrette with ambrettolide, which actually is not insignificant because they have different effects. That's not to say Égoïste didn't go through changes though since 1990. Nevertheless, not enough for me to want to hunt for Bois Noir but definitely a must have for a collector.
I get a lovely lavender in Bois noir that's not there in my vintage Egoiste. Unless that's part of the ambrette profile 🤔
@@RichMitch there's linalyl acetate, etc... maybe with ambrette feels like lavender.

@@belairscents I heard that Egoiste was also a flop but I can't understand why. It's beautiful but apparently they spent 50 million dollars on advertising when it was released and it didn't sell well

Nice pickup! I'm a huge fan of Egoiste and tried searching for a bottle back in 2014...super rate back then, and massively priced when you could find it - not worth it for me. I would up buying a bottle of a 200ml bottle of Chanel Bois des Iles back in 2014 and, while I do appreciate it, I prefer Egoiste because it just feels like the men's version...even though they are very similar, and Bois des Isles served as the inspiration for Egoiste. Cheers!
I had a Bois des iles and didn't care for it, I'd wear vintage samsara if I wanted that style. Agree about Egoiste being the men's version. It's absolutely incredible!

Aha! At last you got the Egoiste before L'Egoiste became Egoiste, if you know what I mean? There's still quite a few on sale where I got mine, for some reason it didn't go down too well.
I'm tempted to pick up a sealed box when I return this autumn, it's still listed at an acceptable price on a local listing.
Yeah that seller and another are what's so bad on that online market. But just as you have done, stay resilient and wait as they are out there.

A rare and mythical beast. Egoiste before Egoiste was Egoiste. It was a boutique exclusive for a while and then they gave it a wider release under the Egoiste name. Absolutely flopped commercially, Unfortunately
